this whole set up is just driving me crazy and making me wonder whether buying a bike was a good option.........if anyone can help please let me know....im already down 700$ just fixing the fairing and the stickers.......cheers.and sorry for the long thread

My opinion would be that the stripping labour is justified, but unless they said otherwise the quote labour shouldn't be your problem.

why are they not willing to put on the panels in the 1st place? an how much time did they actually spend on your bike?

i really dont know....no regulation...the guy said stripping would take 45 mins and now the have doubled the time.........and the guy tells me he will call me and tell me if he has the time to put the fairings back on...so i was like ill take the fairings and get it fitted elsewhere...and then he goes the fairings are at some other mechanics house.......i thot this mechanic is good but slowly i realise they just tryin to rip me off.......the only reason i had gone to him was through someone's reference when i didnt know abt this site as well.....

nup it costs money, but if you go through with the insurance, that quote is payed by the insurance company...
1.5 hours sounds ok, take off the fairings and check the bike over...

but i would be querying the 1.5 hours... just to take of the fairings??? bugger off, that only takes 15 mins...
Time on the job - from receiving the job, doing it,putting tools away, paperwork and then signing it off....the complete job is a lot longer and the actual physical work.

What TS said but I don't get this thread. If you have claimed insurance, and I am sure I have miss read this thread, but if you have the insurance company fixing the bike just walk away from it and tell them to get it fixed and on the road ASAP. When you go to pick the bike up look it over and make sure it is good. Ride it before you sign it off. If you are not happy send it back. Call the insurance person you are dealing with every day till it is done and every hour if it is taking to long. Feck we spend a lot of bling on insurance and they should front up and get it done. Why have a dog and bark???????? I am no mechanic but I can get the plastics off in half an hour. I have talked to a few people in business in the last week and most have commented on how much slower things are. Money is not as easy to part from it's owners at the moment. A hint of things to come? Maybe aye.

cunts like you should not ride bikes mate...try a wheelbarrow..1 hr flat rate for insurance quotes, half hr for parts dept (actually should be 1hr) stripping gsxr600 fairing 1 and half hrs is fair. You brought panels to me @ 12.05 on saturday afternoon ,i was alone on duty .i said if i have da time i'll fit it and that i'll call you. you called me back thrice and i got pissed off. in all honesty i would have stayed late (which most people out there know i go that extra mile)to finish your job .I had 2 sets of pilots and an exhaust system to fit at the time. Best thing is sell your bike-you are a PROBLEM 2 YOURSELF.RICKY

Yeah, word does get around -
Most people on here will know ricky as one of the best mechanics in auckland, if not the best. Im sure alot of people here could vouch for that.
He's helped me out more than i can say, and has always done his best, and stayed behind to put the hard yards in.
Weather it be me crashing my cbr250 and him fixing it at short notice <eg long hours put in> , or helping me when some dick wrote my 02 GSXR 600 off by backing into it with a truck.
Or me going to his house late at night for advice, and finding him in the garage helping someone else out who had had some problems, free of charge.
Being passionate about your job is something you rarely find these days, and it would suck when someone slaggs you off when you do your best to help them. Especially when you put the effort in that he does.
I agree with ricky.

There's two sides to every argument, and good that you put your side across. But nasty personal abuse is a little unnecessary - and not the best way to attract potential customers, who are thick on the ground on this site.

i might have got some bad blood here but anyone whose paid money on a bike would be upset if within 3 days they have an accident and are left stranded.......the first person i called after i had the fall was ricky...cuz hes helped me out with my last bike and ive always looked to him for advice....its just that someone hit my car three days ago and everythings just taken its toll...i was close to broke after i had bought the bike and totally now after the 2 crashes......its mentally and physically draining to run around from here to there,etc....plus the stress of exmas.etc.......i havent even told my parents cuz if i did there will be no more biking for me and quite a few others they will relate my stories to...i hope you people understand that im not trying to criticise anyone but aking for justification cuz of the huge price diff in installing the alarm as well as stripping and the quote cuz according to me a quote shud generally be free.....i was told it would cost only after the quote was made....being a non-working student a grand worth of repairs hurts a lot as i cant even borrow from my dad in this case......sorry to ricky if u were offended but i got pissed off as well wen he told me off on saturday...

I have being going through the same thing since the beginning of the year, already missed 3 weeks of tech.. Oh well Live and learn - if you cant fix it you gotta wait and let them fix it sadly, thats life it has its mysteries.
Ahh I see... stress going through the roof! Don't worry mate it happens to everyone in life... I went through hell with my 1.3k speeding ticket, but after I had a good talk with my parents they understood. Just wait a while before telling them.. be nice to them etc you know the deal.
And yes I had a grand total of $6.49 in my account after that :/ while paying off a bike.. the list goes on.
Seems like you have had a friggen bad run lately  best of luck in the future mate! :drinknsin

It's a pity this has happened.......
No point in acting like children and starting a "I know more swear words than you" contest - this goes to both parties. Since a forum is a public place and the New Zealand biking world is a small place.
Go talk to Mike - don't do it over the phone - go in and sit down and sort things out professionally and courteously.
Don't say - Hey Mike I've got a problem....... this $#&@ ...
Say: hi Mike, I've had a bit of bad luck recently ....crash ....repairs...$$$..another accident...more repairs......more $$$$.......exams.......serious stress.......broke......need some support.....recently had some work done.......wasn't made aware of costs.......so unaware of cost...... surprised with cost....I'm sorry for the incovenience as you are a busy guy..... but this is a very very very important issue for me......I asked all my mates on Kiwibiker and many of them suggested I talk to you...... so how can you help me.....
Be genuine, honest and open, Mike didn't get his reputation for being a nice guy just like that. I feel if you have a genuine case he will make sure you get good customer service.
And Anmolt, I know exactly how you are feeling, a bit too exactly unfortunately.
I know for a fact that some people have ridiculous communication problems...... this may not be done on purpose but maybe a bad habit their circumstances have created. Whatever the case it doesn't mean that it is a great joy to be at the recieving end of such an experience.
Take a few deep breaths realise that if you stay interested in bikes one day you will know enough about bikes to estimate repair time and cost and take this experience as a learning pill.
In the meanwhile I'd suggest you go talk to Mike
Good Luck Mate.

Small point chap - I don't know you - I hear you're the best from a number of cources around here and yet you just lost all my business. Well done.
If facing problematic customers isn't your strong suit, and my impression is that it isn't, I suggest you stay away from them. Keep that up and you'll be losing your employer cash, and eventually it gets back to you.
By the way - do me a favour and show this to Mike.

but the crash wasn't your fault was it? if its an at fault claim, then yeah, the insurance company would have a field day with you but if they've got another person to go for the costs then get them to do the opening of the wallet.
if you're strapped for cash (I know the feeling, I was hardly flush with it after getting my gsxr) why are you trying to put an alarm in?? The decrease in excess is pretty hard to justify if you're hard up on cashflow!

the crash wasnt my fault as a guy was turning and he fled away basically....so now whom do i get to pay for the bike???alarm was bought before the crash and is a pre requisite for bike insurance for lowered premium plus i got the alarm for less than half price.....

Strange I neva had your bussiness 2 start off with and i do get offended when some guttless person tell stories about me(wouldn't you)

but the crash wasn't your fault was it? if its an at fault claim, then yeah, the insurance company would have a field day with you but if they've got another person to go for the costs then get them to do the opening of the wallet.
if you're strapped for cash (I know the feeling, I was hardly flush with it after getting my gsxr) why are you trying to put an alarm in?? The decrease in excess is pretty hard to justify if you're hard up on cashflow!

Time on the job - from receiving the job, doing it,putting tools away, paperwork and then signing it off....the complete job is a lot longer and the actual physical work.
Ah ok, thank you for correcting my blurry vision... in that case, yep i reckon 1.5 hours is ok... Especially as once fairings have been taken off, you still have to check the bike out for further damage...
Ive edited my original post...

the crash wasnt my fault as a guy was turning and he fled away basically....so now whom do i get to pay for the bike???alarm was bought before the crash and is a pre requisite for bike insurance for lowered premium plus i got the alarm for less than half price.....
Strange , not what you told me about the accident.........

You know what mate? I can tell you right now that I will never have you work on my bike. I don't give a shit how shit hot of a wrenchhead you are I don't deal with fuckheads. Customer service is something that seems to be lacking with a few of you. Grow up and realize that without us bikers you don't have a job.
I do not praise myself but I do have pride in my work and it do upset me when you help someone and it turns out this way.

i really dont know....no regulation...the guy said stripping would take 45 mins and now the have doubled the time.........and the guy tells me he will call me and tell me if he has the time to put the fairings back on...so i was like ill take the fairings and get it fitted elsewhere...and then he goes the fairings are at some other mechanics house.......i thot this mechanic is good but slowly i realise they just tryin to rip me off.......the only reason i had gone to him was through someone's reference when i didnt know abt this site as well.....
At 12.05pm saturday you dropped the panels on my bench and at 4 pm when you popped back the panels were still on my bench where does the part "the fairings ar..........mechani house" fit in.

I know and look up to Ricky with his work, and as far as personally goes, hes a wicked dude thats always been really good to me, id help him in a second as i know he would help anyone else.
With that in my opinion, if you had second thoughts after this about seeing Ricky, wipe them from ya head! If your a genuine sorta person looking for a top job, dont hesitate to see him. As much as it sounds like a sales pitch on mt edens behalf - it really isnt, just my 2c after how rickys been towards me.

No - you're wuite right, you never have had my business - and it's a shame I didn't know you were the best - I has a few things that needed doing on the RF... your help would have been appreciated.
Yes I do get annoyed with people telling stories - as you rightly point out.
The difference is that I know how to deal with customers - and I'm not saying it's something you need to do (although it's certainly a plus if you can).
I've only ever known this situation as a slanging match, complete with hair curling abuse, foul language and blame being laid all around. As a bystander it doesn't look good on either side. I have also had my expectations set such that if I did bring my bike to you and there was a disagreement for any reason I could reasonably expect to be abused, shouted down and help in a situation where you could (and I'm not saying you do) maintain a balance of power by simply holding onto the goods in question.
As soon as you went into writing on this site, you did so an a representative of Mt Eden M/C. Whether that's the legal definition or not is another matter, that's the general gist of it.
Also - for what it's worth I did ring Mike yesterday and gave him a heads up on this thread (which I note you did too - good on ya). I wanted to make sure he knew what was happening so your bike shop didn't get a bad name and give him the chance of him moderating or justifying the comments you made.
It turns out he's on your side, and there are a number of good reasons why. 'm not here to argue that - I never was.
My point is that your use of strong attacking language didn't make you any friends, and I'm sure it's done you and your employer some damage.
I know you're pissed off about this whole thing - sometimes it pays to take 24 hours before going into writing, or bounce it off Mike before posting in here. Speaking to him yesterday he sounds like a good guy, and if he has your respect, I suggest you might take a few pointers from him re wording etc.
