View Full Version : Bloody stupid irresponsible fools - on two wheels

Not "proper" motorcycles, but those silly damn minichopper things. Small comfort though since in the eyes of the public they will be seen as motorcycles.
Pootling through the shops on my way home and I see a couple of the things parked , with riders on them. Looked like a dad and (early teens) son combo. Those nasty mini-choppers, raked forks etc.
Looked somewhat disapprovingly at them , since they really ought not to be used on the road . But no more than a Nana tut-tut  at that stage, since hopefully they might encourage the lad to get a "real' bike, and I figure if Dad's willing to go along to supervise one might overlook the myriad of laws being broken (no rego, no license for the lad at least, no wof etc).
Until --- just past them I get to the roundabout at the end of the shops, stop for oncoming traffic, in my mirror I see they've started up and are riding up behind me. Hm, ok. Then, just as I start around the roundabout to turn right, the bloody fools *with "Dad" in the lead* roar straight up to the roundabout , cross to the wrong side of the road, and proceed to GO ROUND IT THE WRONG WAY.
I had to take the sort of evasive action that I always dislike, to avoid a head on. After I'd successfully exited the roundabout they went round again. The woman driving a car down the hill, not expecting traffic from her "wrong" side got the fright of her life, locked her brakes on the wet road and end stopped, half sideways across the roundabout itself.
Then the two brainless morons roared off down the road and stopped.
Had it been the young lad on his own, I'd have given him a Nana-lecture. But "Dad" looked a nasty customer , and something told me he was looking for trouble. So valour yielded to discretion, and I passed the details to the gentlemen in blue. Who advised that they'd do what they could, which is doubtless little enough. (No number plates of course)
I am at a loss for words (a rare thing for me) to express how angry that sort of thing makes me.
The technical offences (rego, plates , wof) I could overlook.
Bad enough that neither were wearing helmets let alone any other sort of gear
But deliberately playing that sort of idiot game on a busy roundabout, in the wet leaves me speechless with fury.
If it was "dad", then he deserves to have the kid taken from him, before he gets it killed.
And the worst part of all is that the public who suffer this imbecility will regard them as motorcyclists! when they are anything but !
I guess the only saving grace is that with any luck they'll both kill themselves and improve the gene-stock. Not very nice for whoever ends up taking them out though.
I dispair of the human race at times.

Man the "father" is a right farkwit....
putting the car driver at risk....
I mean who the hell goes around the roundabout the wrong way....
Someone who wishes to die.
Hope the boy's in blue find this moron and charge him and throw the book at him...
These bikes are gonna cause a serious accident real soon... well not the bike but the blardy rider.
I feel your pain, I really do - have had alot of similar experiences with those mini-choppers!
One I will never forget, heading home from auckland early one morning and this dickhead on one of those mini choppers decides to just pull out in front of me from his driveway, because you know they are so incredibly powerfull ... freaken had to do a mini endo or I would have killed him (I was abit over the speed limit at that time, just came in from the backroads) only protection he was wearing was one of those illegal fucken german spike helmet things he was a big bloke to, but he would have being sorry if 170kg+ of bike hit him at 100kmph, I just got sideways to him gave him the 'visor up' treatment and left him to putt along.
Ever since then if I see anyone on the road with those I develop 'insta-agro' towards them, the are bloody dumb for the places some people drive them.

It's even worse than people on scooters with only class 1 licenses. Banning them isn't going to help as it'll just end up banning the scooters as well. Hopefully there will be a law change requiring you to have a class 6 license to ride motorised two wheeled transport.

Haha, i was in town friday night with some mates (in a cage) and i saw like 8 of them in the carpark we stopped at for a bit. Watching them ride off is hilarious, could be fun tho if ridden sensibly
Most of em are 49cc meaning they dont need a WOF, some are 110 tho.

But even so they still must be registered and vinned etc surely. Are any actually legal ?
And they still need helmets is it not.
Are the police turning a blind eye to them ? and if so, why ?

Yes they can be legal and are supposed to be registered as a moped, something to do with the speed they are capable of and how many KW they put out

They are FULLY road legal, just as much as a car a bike a scooter. As long as they have indicators and a head light and mirror(s?) ( i think, maybe a few more things). they still need rego yeh but no warrant, just like 50cc scooters dont need to be warranted, just kept to 'a warrantable standard" crock of shit if you ask me, i still think they are way too low though, a truck wouldnt even see them until they ran them over, and even then i doubt theyd even notice theyd hit one !
they are damn expensive too !

The thing that pisses me off is when these non ACC paying minibike riding dickwits have accidents, they will be counted in amongst real motorcycle accidents & artificially increase these statistics & our insurance premiums etc, the same way that other non ACC paying farm bike/trike/quad accidents do

Tis not something you see happen everyday Ixion, and it's hard to believe a parent could be so careless about the danger him and his son were in playing silly buggers in the traffic..and in the wet too!
My wife and I saw some scooter riders on our travels today and when I made comment on their total lack of protective wear she said "they must think that it's okay...", to which I replied "no, the problem is that they don't think!" :thud:

um er dude--you are so frigging wrong its amazing.
Put the word SHOULD in front of everything you said and you'd be right.
They should be up to WOF standard--yea hows that possible when most of em use like a torch batttery to run the lights horn and indicators.
They should comply--shit they use seagull poo welding and brakes that are off a pushbike.
EVERY vehicle on the road should have to GO THROGH at least one WOF before being allowed on the road
they are pieces of crap and should be banned from public roads but no --the fucking beurocrats will wait till some kid kills themselves on it

Ha.. The idiots in charge of ACC etc are probably all buying them for their snotty kids to show what rebels they really are... "hey I'm just like Paul snr from American Chopper" (actually pretty close to the truth)
Up until someone gets hurt....
BUT - Then again, ask yourself if we REALLY want pollies looking at things and deciding on their 'suitablity'... I mean who really needs a 150bhp sports bike on the public highway...
Don't worry... Nature will sort it all out!

All the four strokes are 110cc and four speed, but they have 48cc stamped on the barrell...they'll do about 80kph or so,on a good day.The two strokes are 49cc and do about 50kph....at least 'till I get my hands on 'em then the'll do about 80......Some of 'em have good brakes too, hydraulic discs on the front and drums on the rear. It's the mini sportbikes that are the problem, they have cable operated discs that won't stop a pushbike....

Clarification:. The gents in blue were not there. I called them on my trusty cellphone and told them what the dickwits were doing. In the hope that , knowing, a squad car might keep and eye peeled and spot them also. In general I don't agree with potting other motorists - this being bad enough to warrant it.

My understanding is that even powercycles have to be registered - have a number plate. And to be registered they have to be vinned. Which means passing compliance, which is , in effect, the first warrant. The list of fittings required for a power cycle is less than a motorcycle but still must be there. Moreover workmanship etc must be approved as must brakes. And claims as to cc and power will have to be proven. If theyre 110cc they have to pass compliance for full motorcycle standards
I very much doubt that any of the ones seen on the road are registered at all. The loophole is that weasels can import them, ignore registration and the whole scene, sell them on a "not to be used on the road wink wink nudge nudge " basis.

You hit the nail on the head, thats exactly how they sell with the underlining statement in them being that "these mini-bikes are road registerable, and dont need a WOF" they just send them out, and the owners have no idea.
They are stupid for on the road full stop, unbeleavable how easy it is to get around our road regulations

Went to one of these dickheads last night (Sunday) who crashed a mini chopper.. No helmet.. and handlebar went through his thigh. he was wearing a safety beanie and jeans and shirt.. the road hurts at 60 kph.
asked him why he doesnt get a real bike.
answer.. ahh those bikes are sweet as oww. All my g's ave got em, and we just cruise round and that aye, and the cops cant do nuffing bro.
(thought to self) Fuckwit.. end of conversation.
I hope you used plenty of iodine to clean the gravel out of his skin!
cops could book them for being a public menace though couldn't they? (or is that term just bandied around by the public in the hope that commonsense just might prevail?)

Oh you done messed with the bull now boy...
Moving on now, I reckon we should set up a display for these idiots one day. Start off by showing them what a small 250 bike can do to one fo those mini choppers. Then just before they get over from that hit another one with a 1800cc tourer or some such. Then hit one with a mac truck. Show them all what happens to the bike and then say imagine if you were sitting on that. With luck and a stiff board to beat it into thier heads maybe a few of them will learn.
