View Full Version : TradeMe swaps. Why not?

Just thinking why doesn't "trademe" have a swap option for motorbikes as an alternative to selling.
I'm sure that there are plenty of bikers out there that would like to swap their bikes, + cash difference either way, if there was the choice, and big enough range.
If you do a search on "swap" it just picks up mainly all the No Swaps Please!
Whenever I have advertised my bikes for sale in the past, every time someone asks for a swap option.
Come on trademe, give bikers the option.

Cos then Trademe wouldn't get a commission.

But then the guy who is constantly wanting to palm off his dodgy coffee machines would have more options! Has he been on your listings?

That guys a bit strange - I've seen him a few times.

EDIT: But then again, so are the people that always offer Bartercard for stuff.

They don't get a commission on a classified anyway - the $$ is spent when you place the ad.

I like the idea, I have put on my classifieds in the past swaps and trade in considered...... trouble is, the shit that some people want to trade, and the inflated value they look for lol....... easier to go to a dealer if thats the way you want to go.
I did do well out of some older bikes though, good way to make some bux, but tax man was a watchin so stopped doin it..... Aparently you can only dispose of 6 vehicles per year now? Thats had for a bike slut like me, I change bikes more often than my friends change there girlfriends......

Can't you pretty much do this already? Just put up a classified for $0 and say you want to swap it. Although if it could be tagged or classified as a 'swap' then that would help people looking for swaps...

Because they invented this system called money that is better than trading in every way.

I put on my Harley listing I'd swap for a Speed Triple.

Some fucknut rang me, Offered me a truck of hay.

Thats the truck and the hay.

And....The truck was broken down in a fucking paddock somewhere.

The deal was I'd give him my fuckin awesome bike, go find his fucked truck, fix the fucking thing, drive off into the sunset in a truck loaded with hay.

I was seriously pissed off the fuckball interrupted my eating time with such bullshit.

The general rule, given me by an old-time property dealer 35 years ago: "In every swap transaction, there's a fuckor and a fuckee".

One way or another, and despite the last posting above, usually someone gets a shafting.

Nah it’s a dumb idea, I mean apart from having most of your time wasted by losers & you get enough of that on normal adds, how often do people want to trade backwards in CC or quality. <o></o>
<o></o>
That leaves Genre change & while people may want to go from a Sportbike to an adventure bike or tourer when they get a bit older, owners of those bikes are unlikely to go the other way. <o></o>
<o></o>
Generally people try to swap when no one will buy their piece of crap for what they think its worth.<o></o>
<o></o>

. . . Some Hay for a Harley huh? And you said no? You drive a hard bargain. <o></o>

Thats kind of the idea yes - Is it gonna work - personally I dont think so - but I know the guy who owns it - so I wish it all the success possible.

:shifty: trading items of differing values... that'll never work, or so people keep telling me... :shifty: I hope it does work and can't really see why it wouldn't if people are honest about what they're selling... all the best to him...
