Found this ad whilst looking for a possible racebike.

Ever heard of a bike going around the clock before? :gob:

I just figured it was written like that as I know with race bikes it's usually just written like that.......

To be clear, I realise heaps of bikes make it over 100km happy as. I thought it had done more than that however..........hence the thread.

From the reply to the questions it looks like it has done 99999km (a hundred thousand), not 999999 ( a million) kilometres.
Have seen a few bikes now that have done a hundred thousand plus kays without rebuilds, although these have been touring bikes and not something like a GSXR.

100,000 kms in 14 years is no big deal - it's only 7,000 kms a year.

The problem is that the dork selling it has put the odo reading down as 999,999 km , which is basically 1 million km. He needs to have another look at the odo...

Edit: Cloogy beat me to it...

That's mainly because sports bikes tend to get crashed first.

My old man's VFR has done about 120,000 now and it's still fine. Just run in really.
I think a lot of bikers get really hung up about ks when the numbers are really still low. It can be hard to sell a sport bike that's done more the 40,000. Which is about 2 or 3 years use for me :(

There is a BMW K100 in Holland that has done 720,000kms. It is shown on this page http://k100rt.aforumfree.com/general-discussion-f12/mr-max-mileage-t1074.htm

actually, his clock probably does say 999,999 and have only done 100,000. you have two digits for the tens of thousands and the thousands, three digits for the hundreds, tens and ones, and the final digit for the 100metres between kays.

e.g. 158268 on the odo is 6 digits. thats fifteen thousand, eight hundred and twenty six kilometres, and eight hundred metres

Yep, which is 99,999.9 km, not 999,999 km.

Same for the BMW boxers. They might need a clutch at 160000 but they are only just run in at 100000.

Sports bikes tend to wear out more quickly coz people buy them to thrash them. It's a gross generalization, but it's true.

No different to cages, ever heard of a 10 year old Evo3 that hasn't been thrashed? People don't buy them to stick to the speed limit.

Big bikes don't really get thrashed. They are so much beyond the capabilities of most riders that it's near impossible to stress them.

They can be neglected though.

Yeah well my RGV250 once made it 7000kms before the powervalve shat itself and blew up the top end.

Feeling pretty silly now aren't you.

gijoe has a hornet he bought at 24,000 and is now around 104,000... meh?

My KTM is 1.5 years old and has done just over 40,000km... I know I'm not riding her nearly enough (have that constant twitch now) but at least I'm racking up km on other bikes...

Yup, 1985 honda VF1000R with 300,000+k's on it.
i think when i bought it i wanted something for the long haul, and figured, it's engine is as big as a mini, how can it fail? so yeah that worked out well i reckon.

I really should give it a tidy up and get it running again one day.

this is an interesting thread to me right now

i am contemplating getting a bmw f650 in the near future to do the commute on. there are tonnes of them round with 100+ km on them, but i dont find that bothering me.

overall condition and service history is way more important to me than mileage, knowing that i'll be looking after and maintaining it id be fairly confident that i could get another 100+k's out of it.....so why pay $1000s more for a bike thats just gonna be the work hack (i'd rather put the extra bucks into my number 1 bike)

I had an FZR1000B that i did 146,000km (brought it with 7700km on the clock) on and an FJ1200 that I did 120,000 on. Both were still running great when i sold them. The old FZR is still going strong today with over 200,000km on it.
Service your bike and it will last for ever.

My XT600 has done 110000 km, 40000 odd down to me. No engine work, nothing signifcant in that time. Add oil, battery, tyres, chain, that's about it.

Leak from starter drive, fixed with a bit of gasket paper. Managed to break both header pipes off at the head, remarkable flames, fixed with a bit of welding rod and some gas.

BMWs done about the same mileage , but that's nothing to them .

This bike was originally listed as 13,000 km. I see they have now changed it. I reckon this is a bit of a bargain!
