OK, preparing myself the the barage of 'search the archives' etc.. and thats all good but..
I think i'm up for some new leathers, too much gym work (yeah right)...

todays options for leathers....
Are Minotaur leathers still around in NZ?
I see my options so far as QMOTO, but did see some Minotaur leathers and liked them, but cannot find someone in NZ that may sell them.

Any other brands that i can get IN NZ - please post them here..
I'd be happy to work with any supplier that i can either go to (in wellington) or they can send me stuff to try as long as i can send it back if it dont fit!.

Many Thanks

Minotaur leathers arent going anymore, I think Tony pulled the pin a few years ago now.

We offer a fit guarantee so if they dont fit I will sort it, all I need is chest, waist and height, I can get it right from there.

The spec on our Qrace series is the best in NZ so I think you will be well served with a Qmoto set .

let me know if we can help

Got a set of 'Rev It' from motomail a short while ago for reasonable price and they're pretty damn comfy. They have a wide variety so might be worth a visit.

You won't be disapointed in the Qmoto stuff - truly well made gear, unless my jacket gets pinched or I grow a 3rd arm I'll never need another leather jacket.

Only wish I could afford the pants to go with it (Damn kids needing food and clothes!) I'll probably buy some cheap leather pants for now but I'll probably end up regretting it.

Thanks for the replies and PM's everyone.

Just to clarify, I'll be on the look out for a two piece set of leathers i can wear to work every day rain hail snow or shine.
I have been known too do silly things like quarter mile sprints and the hill climbs/riding over the tucks now and then with much enthusiasm!

so, comfy and warm, and safe for when i fall off is what I'm lookin for. and yeah i know its only a vfr800, not exactly a sports bike, but a set of black leathers with some built in aggression would not be all bad i reckon (even a bit of red too (dare i say it) 'match the bike) *caugh*.

I have an over suit for those days when it rains, so I'm not expecting leather to be water proof.

knee sliders, i'm afraid to say, probably are not a requirement.

anyway, i'll keep looking, and dare i say it - probably be in touch with qmoto some day, given all that everyone has said and what i have seen so far.
many thanks to you all.

Also try Sam at Celtic leathers.
Actually if you pick up the latest Bike Rider magazine (well it was the latest when I last looked) there is an article on him in there.

Hi mate, Shaun Harris X Racer here. I am having some 1tonne leathers done for me, for when I get out on track in the future, and trust me, if they were shite, I would Not be wearing them, nor representing them!

Contact NATHAN @

sales@1tonne.co.nz

Tell him I reccomended his gear.

I will NOT say 1tonnes is the BEST QUAULITY in New Zealand!

I will say there QUALITY is bloody good, and good enough for me to use Safely wise, hope that speaks for itself re there Quality.

hmm, looks like he might be out of my price range, then again it could be argued i dont need the same sort of protection as the folk's he's covering racing etc.

I dont think 1tonne could ask for a better advert than that.
thanks for taking the time to reply.
I'll certainly be keeping that in mind when i put my dollars down. thanks heaps.

I just wanted to add - that I'm not trying to run companies off against each other here, it really is just an info gathering exercise, i already have way more to go on than when i started.

so thanks to all for replying and again - I just wanted to emphasis this is just an info gathering exercise, not an attempt to run any brands down - or against each other.

thanks again too all contributing.

You always need the best protection you can afford but hey, it's your skin mate. I tell ya, a visit to his workshop is very interesting to say the least.

Thanks Buddy. Re your later comment RE playing brans off, I do not see you doing that at all, a genuine shopper you are, as far as the other brans mentioned go

Celtic are Bloody Brilliant Racing suits!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quasimoto Gear has a very good repuation as well, and Sam and Quasi are both good genuine people

A couple of things, (not directed at 1 tonne)
1/ Look at the specification, mine wont .........isnt beaten
2/ Im on Kiwibiker as an active member so easily contactable, I own the Qmoto company, Im here every day to hear what my customers say.
3/ Im a racer and crash in my own gear, as do many racers and many customers
4/ you get what you pay for buy cheap get cheap........with any brand.

If you look at my specification you will see easily it is the best on the market.

Happy to help

You're in Wellington - you should call Dusty at Leda Leathers in Stokes Valley. As far as I am aware, does not have "off the rack", everything is custom made exactly as you require. Very high quality, quite reasonable prices, has been around for ever (Dusty made my one piece suit about thirty years ago) http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~integra/leda.html

you are really plugging 1 tonne which is fine by me Shaun, but you say you are behind them based on Quality first, I would be interested to know what you mean by this.
As I certainly dont think 1 tonne has any lead in the market in this area by any stretch of the imagination, so really I dont know what your talking about, do you ?

Its all good plugging a brand but when you talk up quality that "apparently" rates higher than others when it clearly doesnt, and promote it using you "credible" name it seems to me to be a bit "personal agenda ish"

Simply put 1 tonne spec vs spec on most brands does not appear as a market leader (with respect to Nathan and 1 tonne) so frankly I dont know what your on about

Not going down that path mate

I WILL WEAR www.1tonne.co.nz gear NO WORRIES!!!!!!!!!!!

I have also said in this thread that I was happy to wear your gear, and Leda gear.

It is the customers choice, and I am just providing them with options that I trust and would use, if that is wrong of me, humble apologies.

So true - my first full leathers were from Dusty - more years ago then i care to remember. When i stopped riding, i sold them for more then i paid for them.... They were like the day they had been made. Great craftsmanship, great quality and great price.
