Hi there
I went to VTNZ today to put my rego on hold for the 6mths that we will be in NZ. I was told that it would only come into effect once my current license expires - now this really sux because there's still 5 months to run.
Is this correct or was I given the wrong form for what I wanted to do?
So how do you guys put your bikes on hold over winter do you only ever license them for 3 - 6 months at a time?
Cheers

MR27 is the form for choosing the amount of time you want.
I have been told before that you can be re-imbursed what you have paid on your rego. I'm not totally savvy as to what the conditions are though.

yup, only goes on hold from expiry, and then must remain on hold for a min 3mths or you have to pay reg from the expiry date

the only time you will get a balance refunded is if you are DEregistering

Yep the systems setup to rip you off, its effectively "legalized extortion" they will screw you out of all the money they can.

i would ring palmerston north motor reg centre or nzta as it is known now on 0800108809 , i have found in the past that places like vtnz post office etc only know about the forms they have and if your request is out of the norm they dont have a clue and say they things cant be done, if it can be done they nzta will tell you and 90% of the time they will do it on the phone hope this helps.
