My daughter is "Horsey" Big time  When I was having my hassles with ACC she laughed. She told me ACC love her

Injuries;

My horse bit me
My horse kicked me
My horse chucked me on the ground
I was riding a horse and it went mental and crashed through a timber barrier - I fell off...

The list goes on...

We pay for her to be covered via our PAYE

EDIT: So does she :pinch:

No fault system..

Yepper, ACC covered part payment of treatment to my ruptured ligament.

Something weird though...

Ordinary visits to my doctors cost $16 PHO and all that.

ACC visits cost $23 hmmmmmmmmmmm

Young lass over the road has one of them four legged things. Most times I see her she has a cast on one part of her body or another.

I blame a lack of milk. I can't remember how many hundreds of times I crapped off, got bitten, stood on, kicked, licked and pushed over by horses, and never broke anything and only made one ACC claim to get an xray after some fat arse stood on my foot, wasn't broken but. Horse riders need to drink more milk. ;)

Slightly off topic.
Same as the time I got a prescription from the Doc.
Went to the chemist and grabbed the thing I found off the shelf. It had a price tag of $23. Took it to the counter and handed over my pescription and asked if i had the right stuff. The lady said "yes that is the right stuff, that'll be $31 please". But it says $23 on the label I quipped. "Yes, but you have a prescription so the price is not the same".

Admittedly this was about ten years ago so not sure whether its the same now.

back on topic, How does acc get their due from cyclists?

Mu brother owned a racing stable. 15 full time staff, He actually closed the business because of the ACC cost - they are horrendous.

Also the rate charged is across all staff - so he is paying HUGE ACC rates even for the 2 office women - even tho' they never go to the stables - WTF.

So yeah - polly with the pony dosnt pay - but all trainers or anyone that works with them in a professional manner are charged like you would not believe.

No no no, you people don't understand, horseys and bicycles are just general recreation so covered by general ACC levies.

When you get on your motorcycle on a sunday afternoon for a ride, you are engaging in a specific risk activity on the road, so you pay again.

Whereas when you get on your horsey or bicycle on a sunday afternoon you are engaging in a general risk activity, so you don't have to pay again. The difference is obvious.

And you don't use your horsey or bicycle on the road......oh hang on yes you do......damn, now I'm confused.

And we are back to the NO FAULT scheme. Stop pointing fingers at people that should pay more, cos no-one should pay more, including us!! ;)

Same here. Fallen off, been bitten, head butted, kicked, knocked down and trampled. Never had an ACC claim for horses yet.

I guess we're just tough.

I'd like to invite everyone to my school of harden up. It's free to come along and enrollments start now!

How do Horsey people pay their ACC?
Horsey ACC is covered by your ACC you pay in your PAYE and is classed as a recreational accident. and as I said all along your PAYE cover you for any thing you do as a private citizen... no matter how silly.

Our PAYE ACC also covers all those that do not pay PAYE, including all children that are involved in accidents etc...

I still recokon the best way to cover it all "was to drop all current forms of collecting ACC" and adding to GST... join all the seperate accounts into on big slush fund...(the way it was set up to be) This would cover every one including tourists, elderly workers, young and old, sports players, bikers & road users including cyclists etc..." once in place it would be harder to sell and privatise ACC... as you can not tell who is paying how much for what... but there is more than enough money

however since they goobers in the gooberment have put GST up for the end of the year just because... then it does need a rethink, but I don't believe they really needed to do that unless it was for ACC...

And of corse we all know ACC isn't broke anyway...

WTF... it's not asking them to pay more. It's asking them to pay full stop - they currently don't pay anything.

If the government really wanted horsey people to pay ACC levies; they'd stick a tax onto all feed products. I can't think of a single working horse that's fed just grass.
