I think the cop shot very prematurely but the guy on the bike did look like he was going for something at his side.

I hope they throw his lawyer in jail with him, what a load of shit!

There is no way that his movement could be described as reaching for a weapon FFS.

The cop was overtly nervous and excited, can't blame him for that considering what they have to deal with but clearly not in that case.

The head of Nelson-Blenheim Police area bragged on the TV the other day that they used the armed offenders squad to "randomly" stop the Hells Angels poker run 5 times.

I suspect this is illegal - Police are able to used the armed offenders squad when the have "reasonable cause" but a traffic stop of a man who was stopped only half an hour earlier, possibly doesn't count.

Actually, once they have ascertained that the "bad guy" is unarmed, they are possibly outside the law continuing to point loaded firearms at him - strictly speaking they should be made safe and shouldered.

No doubt since Mr Mollenaars great adventure, many of the 250 search warrants they executed for the "Switched On Grower" arrests meant Mum, Dad and the kids had Ninja suits pointing guns at them as well.

At least we can be sure the kids will remember Dad is the bad guy for having a smoke out back after work, and the Ninja suited guys who tore them all out of bed at gunpoint are the good guys.

I wonder why the HAMC hasn't done something about it, legally I mean. I would guess that they have the wherewithall to challenge that sort of shit with lawyers.

Actually... I think the HAMC think its great - they love the idea that the cops are so scared of them that they wont pull them over without armed backup.....I think they also love quoting the police saying "they are known criminals" but yet the poilice never actually manage to arrest them for crimes.....

Now THAT is cred. and the best bit is, its the police breaking the law !

Given the thought of NZ in the future no doubt incidents like this will happen, fwiw theres no fucking way i would be a cop in this country without a gun as it is let alone the future.

Police are no more allowed to point loaded firearms at people than any member of the public. Arming Police is legal only when police have "reasonable cause" to believe its necessary for self defence or the defence of others.

Its not supposed to be done to intimidate or for fun.

Pulling over a biker "randomly' for the 5th time on his ride may tick all the boxes as far as the police are concerned, they may think it all "legal", and indeed the fact they brag about it demonstrates that is exactly how they think about it.

Somehow, it just seems to me, to be police (proudly) stretching the law.

I thought that the reasonable cause are the standing orders for Firering not for carrying or presenting.
