Heres an idea.....

Would anybody be interested in doing a run down (or up) Old North Rd/SH16 from Westgate to Kaukapakapa, then heading on to Snowplanet (http://www.snowplanet.co.nz/index.asp) for some indoor skiing?

We'd probably aim for a 9-9:30 start, with a view to arriving at Snowplanet at around 11:30ish. Just in time to get kitted out with rental gear then have lunch before hitting the slope.

Give me an idea on if you'd be in and we'll see if its worth doing. If we get a few people along, we'll try to wangle a discount from them.

I dunno how to ski

do you have to pay to enter that place even if your not going to ski?

What Im really keen to do is 'Ride & Ride' i.e. Ride up to Pakiri Beach and then go on the horse ride there :D :niceone:

I'd be keen for the ride/board experience! Have been to the snowplanet on the bike already, and there's plenty of room in the lockers to store gear. oh, and no, you don't have to pay if you're not going onto the snow - they have an awesome cafe there, with a huge window so you can watch the skiers/boarders.... mind you, the ride/ride suggestion sounds cool too!

Have to be this Saturday then, since nothing else is scheduled....

I'll check with her indoors to see if I can get a leave pass on short notice ;-)

I'll be in closed door negotiations with SWMBO tonight, so will have a date ready for tomorrow. Most likely it'll be Saturday week, and if so, I'll update the lead msg in the thread and make a calendar entry for it.

Wax them skis and boards in anticipation (and update your insurance while you're at it). :niceone:

Would have to hire all the gear including warm clothes if one rides. Would they allow you to ski in a one piece leathers?

Be easy to get your knee down

I might be keen although I'd meet you at the end of SH16, because I am lazy and fat.. Keep us posted!

I was hoping to test out my Cordura set! See how waterproof it is... and test out those CE armour on the slopes!

I don't think they'd care. I'll be skiing in Cordura pants/nylons (don't laugh, keeps you WAY warm and feels good too :niceone: ) and probably take a thermal shirt/sweater combo rather than skiing in my jacket. Would be a bit too cumbersome I think. Might wear the helmet though :D

So is this going ahead?

...it's not that cold at the snowdome (no wind-chill). You can easily get away with a warm-ish shirt & light parka type jacket or sweatshirt, and beanie. As for trousers, I wore my cordura ones last time, which were great and helped a lot everytime i fell over - which was a LOT....was tempted to put my helmet on!

If I had a chance at looking vaguely diginified on the slope, I would come along....
