I am currently insured via NAC with "elite bike cover". I received a quote from Kiwibike Insurance brokerage for Protecta.
The quote was significantly cheaper than my current premiums, similar cover policy but also offered a considerably smaller excess in all cases.
Anyone have any views on Protecta that I may find useful in whether or not to look at them?
Thanks in advance.

I specialise in doing Insurance Repair Work in the Nth Island, supported by Dave from Kiwi Bike Insurance.
I have never had any problems with Protecta excepting my Quotes to repair machines back to quality condition.

I changed to Kiwibike for my bike insurance broker for the same reason. So far no issues.

I've been covered by protecta for a few years now.
Had a couple of claims one for hitting an oil slick and another for a stolen bike.
Both times had no problems getting my claim paid out. Seemed very straight up and got good service.
If I had to pick a downside... it would be they were a bit slow in getting my claim processed but I have nothing to compare it to.

Thanks for that. For our info, just how long was that turnaround on the claim to payment?

They have a 30 day receovery period for stolen bikes as far as I'm aware, but that's pretty standard. Swann have it too. Vero's is 14 days.
FWIW Swann actually paid me out within the 30 days, I had great service from them. Investigator wasn't so nice but I guess that's their job haha.

Just checked, and Kiwibike placed me with Swann Insurance. Of interest to not is that even though the insurance was much cheaper, Swann Insurance has a much better credit rating than my prior insurer (I prefer to stick with insurance companies with an 'A' rating or better).

I haven't had any dealings with them other than giving them money but I can say that for an 18 year old insuring a a VFR750 their full insurance was less than most of the other companies could manage for just third party.

All useful stuff thanks guys. I am always cautious of a significantly lower deal from the point of view of asking where the catch is. In this case it could be just simply a better deal, and being less ripped off than normal!
