Could just be a one off?

You can see at the bottom of the weld the Porosity & the fact it hasn't penetrated at all . Hopefully just a One off .

Shit, I really hope it is a one off - I'm sure it is. All the current top sports bikes have a pretty amazing standard of quality, most of the time.

Or so we would like to think. Anyone remember a bunch of ZX-10 wheels getting replaced recently... for.... dodgy welding!?

but by crikey.. if its not a one off, how much would a total recall on all K5 gsxr's to get the FRAME replaced cost them!? that'd probably be suzuki's profit obliterated for 2005. Most interesting (only because I don't work for suzuki)- I'll be watching this space!

Just imagine the danger on road this could be, makes one shudder to think - I've seen a ZX10R frame torn in one spot (not right through), and that took 150kmph into a stationary object so they arent weak but to have it just 'snap' through G'forces due to weilding man scarey. as CK said, wonder what will come of it - will suzuki pay for everyone to get their frames checked or is it nothing - who knows... time will tell the story..

It isn't new, Hyabusa subframes, TL's shock mounts, Speed triple steering heads, Honda cam chains. They just recall 'em and fix 'em, everyone's happy.

<sorry Lou - SNIP>...everyone's happy.

yeah... aarrrmmm except anyone ending up injured or dead (coz technically dead people aren't happy - just not sad either) but you get my point...

12 O'Clock wheelies probably don't help much either..

Shit, that's a dodgy lookin weld...and if there's one, there'll be many,it's the nature of robots. It almost looks like it's been welded with the wrong grade of filler rod...though it's a bit hard to tell over the net....

They just recall 'em and fix 'em, everyone's happy. apart from the suzuki book cookers, shareholders and the bugger that made the muck up on the design/production line

Had a weld fail on my brand new DRZ in 2000..... Not a structural one but one that made up the oil tank part of the frame.... Suzuki's - cheap but......

Looks like they're just going too damn light for the stresses placed on a roadbike.....bugger!

That is fricken scary.

From now on I'm gunna shudder every time I see a K5 gixxer.

And I'd have to say those pic's of the ZX10 ain't much better.

I guess when you keep making em lighter n faster, somethings got ta go wrong eventually.

Just picked up my K5 and spent a while checking over the welds on the bike. I have done a little welding myself and it looks like the welds are just sitting on the sufice and have not penertrated into the frame at all. I phoned my dealer today, they reckon it's a one off but are going to have a chat with suzuki and get back to me. Really cannot beleive they would of got the welding wrong thease days.

Yeah right, think they term this backing it in, don't they? Think he's got a bit more control than I usually end up with trying this stuff :niceone:

That is not got at all... I hope you're wrong, or there are going to be alot of unhappy K5 Gixxer owners!
I have to agree though, when you try making bikes TOO fast, and TOO light without maintaining the most strict quality control possible, that is where you run into problems, like these might be!
