View Full Version : Headlight not going despite bulb?

Hey guys,

Anyone know anything about Suzuki AE50s or any other late nineties Suzuki scooters? I recently resurrected one and the headlight wont work and now neither does the back light for the gauges. The backlight worked briefly without the bulb but now nothing. I'm only guessing that the headlight and gauge light are meant to come on automatically as I can't find a switch. Anyone know anything about headlight electrical systems to potentially locate a fault as I don't have a wiring diagram? Any pointers would be great! Cheers

All the fuses ok?

Cheers for the reply mate. I don't think it would have fuses would it? Only one I know of is the main one off the battery but that's okay. I was thinking more if there is a resistor or similar (i'm not that electrically savvy) to step down the current for the bulb?

Err no.
Brightness of bulb is determined by the wattage. The equation is Wattage(W) = Voltage(V) x Current(A)
So 60W bulb at 12V = 60/12= 5Amps

I have no idea about your C50 but for any bulb to operate it needs the full battery voltage across it.

More infomation required .... "without the bulb" you will get no light.
If you are refering to the 'tail light" ?? does the "brake light" still work ?
Problem areas to check for lights, earthing point corrosion, connector plug dislodged .... be a good place to start

What's the voltage across the battery when the bike is running? Is the battery maybe on it's way out? Does the bike start easily?

I would start at the simple things too, loose connections, fuses etc. Seems coincidental that the headlight and instrument lights failed at pretty much the same time. Unlikely to be the lamps. Although I guess it could be.
