Anyone keen to hit the sandpit for some adv/trail bike friendly tracks this weekend.

I was thinking sunday, or saturday AM.

Could possibly do a adv-ride entry to the park (down onto the beach at Muriwai and back out Rimmers road into the sandpit)

Anyone keen?

Yes I will help push you out but only once you have managed to convince me your 950 is a adv/trail bike. :wait:

Saying that, there are a few tracks there that would be pretty good fun on a 9x0, a fair bit of a challenge but would surely be fun.

One of my options was the sandpit this weekend (sunday) but on the 200, I'm not suicidal.....what tracks are you thinking of riding at the Sandpit?

I just usually stick to the blue tracks, but the tracks would probably depend on who turns up and what they are riding, but myself I have been known to fight my way through a red or two.
I was thinking of heading out to the superbowl for a play, I managed to find that once on my old KLX which never quite had enough power to pull my fat arse to the top.

You could certainly be wise to bring the 200, it would be a much more practical bike.

I would be keen, but it will be a challenge to get there this weekend. I am down in the south island at the moment, but should head back tomorrow. Will be knackered by the time I get home. Have you chosen a day yet? Let me know a time, and I will see if I can muster some energy. (and patch up some of my beaten machines)

Probably sunday at this stage (assuming Crisis is still keen?), weather is looking good for both days.

Probably a good move, I can't make the Sandpit but was planning on a short wander around Riverhead, Kaipara hills and Puhoi area at some stage so I hope your weather forecast is wrong or I will be stuck here doing the GST.

Edit:
The forecast looks perfect Chris, which day did you look at?

You are right, does not look so bad now, I am sure the one I looked at earlier said heavy rain.
Keen to head up south head? I can show you that carrigage way entry onto Muriwai beach

Would love to come, but can't make it. Bit stuffed, and heaps to do. Not the GST in my case, but similar sins.

Have fun

Have to be another time as I have a list of things to do and the riding will have to fit around that, I would love to do a south head ride, did you mean the access from Wilsons road?
Best thing to do is flick me a Pm when you are free (during the week is ok too...) and I will see what I can fit in, unfortunatly the next couple of weekends are already taken with other stuff.

Well I'm pleased to anounce that the roads between Auckland and Warkworth are in fine condition, hard packed with a pleasant sprinkling of gravel in the most unusual of places, for some reason there weren't too many other bikes out, 3 or 4 at athe Puhoi pub and a worried looking GSXR750 rider in the middle of a gravel road. Just as an aside, why don't sports bike riders wave? I waved, but no, not a finger raised or arm twitched as I went past this guy, is there no brotherhood in motorcycling anymore?
Something worth remembering, the clay in the Riverhead forest (or at least on the edges of it) is very slippery and even good knobblies slide all over the place!

Yeah, riverhead mud is slippery even when it is dry.

Have you ever been up that Chatham Road? At the end of Bald Hill Road where Ararimu Valley Rd starts? You can get through to the other end of Chatham not much of a road, but definately a track.

I had a look up it a couple of years ago and ended up in the middle of someones field, looking at maps now I can see it links through to Chatham road and then Peak road, I always get a bit nervous if I feel like I'm wandering around someones property so haven't pursued it further, have you been through there?

Yeah I felt the same way the first time I went through, especially cause there was a bunch of people flying kites in that field (the one you ride through).
But as far as the maps go its a road, and it is only *closed* according to the signs at the north end.
This is the north end, that gate you can open, it has the closed sign on the other side.

Keen for a later in the week ride? I am keen as long as we wait till this wintery weather has moved on.
I went for a quick ride on sunday, but got super cold hands (dumb summer gloves) so did not end up going far.

I should be up for something this weekend. The correct fuel tap for my new tank has finally turned up and my new muffler should arrive Friday with luck.

Looking at the weather, it won't be this week, maybe next week? Two or three hours tearing around up north sounds good to me.
