View Full Version : Anyone in Chch want a bit of casual grounds maintenance work? Approx $15 an hour.

Then boss has asked me to recruit a casual employee for what will initially be a couple of weeks clearing leaves from guttering in our houses and then for odd bits of work when our two maintenance boys get overwhelmed. If I put an advert in the Press I know I'll get 100 responses to wade through so I thought I'd try you good folk first.
The person must:
> be fit enough to do up to 8 hours light manual work a day when required (weekdays only)
> be able to work unsupervised
> have the aptitiude and attitude to perform basic manual work
> be able to work safely (this work involves ladders and sharp things!)
> have a clean police record (this will be checked)
> be comfortable working in an environment where intellectually disabled people live. (You don't have to work with them but they will come over for a chat)
If anyone is interested they can PM me.
Work is here : www.hohepa.com

Do they need their own transport (read do they have to be able to drive a car) or is everything the worker will need at the grounds to be cleaned?

We supply all the gear. The person just needs to be able to get themselves to our site. Car licence would be an advantage but probably not essential in this case

Hey you two ... when we interviewed you yesterday I think I forgot to mention that one of the duties was cleaning my bike once a week.. Remember, it's wax on with the right hand, wax off with the left hand.
Hopefully we can get back to you today.

Just be thankful I didn't use the photo to start a caption competition.

You Bastard.
Haha.
But seriously; so far Ive been enjoying the job immensely. At the end of the day I can look at what Ive done and actually see the resualts of what Ive been labouring away at (execpt for those bloody leave that keep falling down) which is quite satisfying.

Yeah. I was watching a new lot of leaves falling on that spot in the photo about half an hour after you finished it off this morning. Poor buggers! The maintenance boys appreciate what you two are doing though.

Yeah, after finishing the gutters we walked back round to see all new leaves lying there! There are lots and lots of leaves!!!! The guys are great!

If the leaves keep falling I guess me and KP will always have a job, so really its not all bad.
Personally Im starting to think that it would be much better if on the first day of Autum every single leaf on every single tree fell off at the same time and I didnt have to do the same job twice.
That said, after using the leaf blower each day for the last week my RSI in my wrists has completly disapeard so I cant complain to much if as this job is making me healthier.

Yeah. We used it to clear the dust of the floor in the maintenance shed after we shifted all those old toilets etc this morning. Much better than sweeping.

Definitly cant argue with the job you guys did on the shed. Me and KP were both kinda shocked when we walked in to she shed in the afternoon and found so much space.
I know where Im parking my bike from now on.

This is one of the few threads on KB that makes me smile. An offer of work taken up by people who are obviously enjoying it, that's good all round in my book. :)
