I Love the DPB.......

No not that DPB......

Dual Purpose Bikes, silly.... :D
Here's some pics after a ride yesterday. The knobbies make a big difference on the gravel/off road sections. Good to be back on the dirt after smashing my ankle doing motocross.

Used to have one through my teen years. Now I have a road bike, but have a MX to flog when I feel the need....

Brings back memories of my old faithfull KX125 (click here to see sexyness (http://www.kawasakinorthside.com.au/prod559.htm)), looks like you had a ball - erm Nice custom plates any idea where I can get some?

Glad you had a blast.

Yup - I'm with you there John. I had a KMX 125 and until recently a DT125 for fun. And I got the green light from Ms Biff at the weekend to get another. Woohoo.

So if anyone is selling a 250cc road legal/off-roady type, and is local (ish) then let me know.

Must be road legal, or easily convertes, as Ms Biff is eager to have a go.

Nice work! What did you replace the trailmax's with in the end?

Front is a conti TKC80. Rear is a Vee Rubber VRM147 (copy of Pirelli MT21)
Both work awesome on the loose stuff and surprisingly well on the seal if a little squirmy on the rear but you soon get used to that and don't notice it anymore. Just checked for you but no sizes to suit the CBR sorry....:)

Just checked for you but no sizes to suit the CBR sorry....:)Check with the riders on the Kaiawa GP on Saturday - they'll tell you the CBR handles quite nicely on wet grass and gravel with a 140 rear.

Only problem is it's quite easy to get a puncture whilst trying to get the power down on gravel.

How about a RMX 250 (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Adventure-dual-purpose/auction-27808259.htm) ,it'd be an apeshit road bike, but I think the good wife might be a bit put off by the power delivery.

Where did you go XTC?

Ah, fond memories of the TS125. Yep, love the road/trail bikes. Miss having one (I'll get another one day). It's great - legally ride it to wherever, have fun off road and then ride it back (great incentive not to wreck it off-road).

What would be the main differences between a purpose-built motard and something like that with road tyres on it? (Haven't had any experience with motards)

Ended up going meremere, maramarua forest, hunua ranges then back out here to waiuku for a quick blat through the forest roads and to the otaua tavern for a brew or two... was a good day with about 300km's covered. Only managed to get into maramarua forest as the pruning gangs were there. Lots of nice tracks there too.

The secret is stay out in the garage as late as possible. Every sunny day disappear for hours on end on your bike, then come back and clean it. Then rub it down with strawberry flavoured massage oils while wearing French knickers and calling the bike, "hot stuff" and similar. She'll soon change her mind. Allegedly. :D
