Hi,

do anyone has any opinions and/or experience of a Suzuki GSX 1400. I am planning to buy a new bike :)

Thx in advance.

Season greetings from Espoo, Finland.

Really enjoy mine. Here's the GSX1400 Owners web site http://www.gsx1400.org/gsx1400_board/ . It suits my riding. I commute to work on it and enjoy long distance riding and have not need to change the seat (1600km riding and still feeling good). Dam good bike two-up and very comfitable for the Pillion.
I have had two of them. My current one "Bagheera" is a GSX1400K5 and "Zena" was a GSX1400K7 with the bikini fairing (written off in an accident). No real difference between the two bar the lights. The Big round light on "Bagheera" the K5 is far better at night than the crap lights in "Zena"the K7's bikini fairing (trust me, I know).

Well I rate them (I've had 4!)
The motor has been around in one guise or another for30 odd years so it is well sorted.
It does everything well and reliably.
commute
tour
scratch
Your choice, provided you keep pouring petrol in at the top it will keep delivering the goods for you.
If you want a new you'll have to be quick, Suzuki dont make them anymore!!!???
Production started in 2000 and it has changed little in the last 10 yrs.
An awesome bike in my opinion.

Just spotted this thread. An awesome machine. Underated by many and once the standard suspenders are dialled in properly, it handles brilliant, especially in the tight stuff. I'm on my second one as I like them so much. I've yet to find a better bike that does everything I want as well. Will run for ever :)

Good choice, I don't think there's a better bike anywhere for the money, a stonking modern classic and an absolute bargain.

It is great bang for the buck. How does the Honda equivalent compare?

There is no Honda equivalent in terms of pricing or options in NZ , the big 1400 is and, has always been a bargain machine that will go forever . Great fun too...... Good fun for the buck.

Have had a squirt on a couple of ' 1400 ' s and they go fine, however .....

They'll never beat a ' Busa'

Wish I'd saved some coin and bought a new 1400 instead of the G2 'Busa late last year , did'nt realise the 1400's were that quick . 106hp's vs 197 and less torque and more weight means they must have an ace up their sleeve to be quicker to 100k's......any facts to back that up ??

Just curious..........:shit:

its the gearing effect. the gsx top speed is only 230kph

i used to have a mini with a 1300 allegro dif for 13" wheels but had the 10" mini wheels would do 0-100 in 5 secs but top speed was barely 130 kph

 This is KB, we don't do facts....however, just done a quick search and found these little items:

Suzuki GSX1400 0-100k 2.57secs from a video on youtube which refuses to embed, maybees cause I loaded it on here before.

Suzuki Hayabusa Line4 1.3 ltrs 215Kg 130Kw/138Nm 311kph 232.7 10.38secs
0-100 kph3.15secs. From here http://dixonarchive.com/hayabusa/performance.htm

How accurate all that is ? who knows, fact is the Busa is a missile but a little known fact is, the gsx14 has more stomp than romper stomper and 'MAY' be the fastest production vehicle to 100kph ever made. It's really all academic for me as I ride like a nanna anyway.

No worrys Marty,

The figures you gave for the Gen 1 Busa are fine.......( 2000 ?)

But, the Gen 2 ( current model ) figures are possibly a little higher up the ladder as I eluded. ?

I know this is KB and no facts required....take it easy

230! I regularly see 240 at the end of Puke's back straight and she is still pulling like a train and have seen 260 else where :shifty:

Well done mate , 260 is going well ..........how do you hang on?

Seen 260 only once so far on the new 'Busa and that was in 4th, but I have the benefit of some fairing protection. Had 230 on the clock on my old 1200 Bandit 2 up and that was a struggle......

Yep, been off the clock which reads 260kmh often on my 14. Just have to tuck in real tight and bury your head behind the dials.

The 2.57 to 100kmh is correct. A 14 with a Yoshi exhaust and yes, the GSX1400 was the quickest production vehicle in the workd to 100kmh before the Bugatti Veyron hit the market.
Pips the 14 by a few points of a second but considering the Buggati costs the same as a small third world nation, no wonder.

Yeah that would be nice but supercharged is better. More control in the corners :)
