Wouldn't mind coming out for a scoot around now that the bike is (mostly) sorted.
Anyone got any plans?

no plans but keen for something.

Sounds good. Preference for any day? i'm easy.

Depends on the weather I think.
Tides are low about 4pm saturday, so maybe a late in the avo ride?

Other option would be to go to the sandpit for some trail riding, great way to get used to a bike I reckon.
There are plenty of easy enough tracks to ride.

Hrm, I have a dinner on sat night so that might not work.

So never been to the sandpit before, how much costy? I just feel like running some shit over.

$25 for the day, but a couple of hours in there and you will be buggered. Good fun tho.

I'm keen! Think I'm free both sat or sun. But that may be a lie...

I am only free sunday at this stage.

Are you keen to go to the sandpit? Heaps of fun in there, great way to get a good feel for your bike.

sweet. what time on sun?

.chris
10th June 2010, 11:34
10am? The place opens at 9am, but there is usually a bit of a que for checkin at that time.
No need to be there early as we have no need to park (not that its much of a problem anyway).

I will bring a pack with me for the road riding gear, which they usually let me put in the shed. So ditching the extra gear is no prob.

Do you want to meet along the way somewhere?
I will head out there via Albany/Riverhead-Coastville Highway/Kumeu if you wanted to meet somewhere along the road.

10th June 2010, 11:37
How about the Albany village petrol station? Think it's a shell?

Have a good time guys, I was there on thursday and the sand is well packed and easy to ride on....I'm not volunteering to come tho, a burst of incompetence sees me with a screwed left knee!

So what were you doing when you screwed your knee?

Trying to ride the 200?

I was playing with the suspension and trying it out on a series of sand whoops when I miss timed one of them, bike went vertical, I went upside down then the bike came back down..vertically.

Much whinging and cursing ensued and so far I'm still hobbling around, judging from past experience this will take a week or so to heal up.

Good day on the trails today! That route there was awesome too! Never realised there's paper roads that close to Auckland.

Sand was nicely packed from all the rain, and we managed to ride right in between the downpours... Until it opened up when I hit the southern motorway.

Here's a bit of a tame vid from the start of the day - we went on to do amazing things after this, such as sheer drop offs, vertical ascents, 20 meter airs, and crossing the sahara in an hour flat. However you'll have to take my word for it, as my helmet cam ran out of batteries...

Great vid, maybe I should have gone a bit slower so you could keep me in frame a bit more. Was damn good fun anyway.
Shame the batteries ran out you got a fair bit quicker on the other trails (after all that was just a warm up loop)

You said about going out next monday, but the sandpit is only open Wed-Sun.

Can you change the angle of your camera a bit? Seems to be looking down a fair bit, would be better to see a bit further ahead.

Shame there was not footage of running along that back fence through the water holes, that would have looked quite cool I reckon.

14th June 2010, 10:54
Yeah, sorry, our dramatic authentic adv riding splashes weren't captured I'm afraid... Next time!

And was going to change the angle prior to heading out on Sunday morning, but breakfast was too good, then suddenly I was running late... Also need to chuck in a bit of padding in to get rid of that sharp plastic-on-plastic rubbing noise every time I hit a bump.

Might be. May make a family day out of it, so I may be a bit boring to ride with. Saturday looks good for weather. May see you there for a bit of a blat. I will most likely be trail equipped rather than on the 640.

Yep works for me.
I think I shall head out there early, I am going to take a pack lunch so I can spend the whole day riding, so bound to catch you what-ever time you arrive.

Be good to know what time you are going to be there tho so I can arrange to be back at the carpark around that time, but no worries to confirm roughly what time you expect to be there, when you can.

I will be there Saturday. Hopefully at 9 (opening) or very soon after. White Hilux double cab ute from work with a trailer load of bikes, and a family in tow.

See you then. Keen to try the farm track furthest from the coast side. Well the YZ80 pilot is anyway :D

I have to see a client at 9 so won't be there until 11 to 12ish. Roger, the farm loop is a nice ride, has few ups & downs (as in Oooooh, that was steep) in it but the sand will be firm after all the rain. Dark blue Bighorn, orange 200 EXC with white radiator shrouds.

Just finished fitting a quick(ish) release system for the numberplate/rear indicators so I can go fully off-road looking.

Great ride yesterday, the body is feeling pretty battered from my efforts.

Had the gps trackloging, I missed the first couple of loops of the criminal/convict trails but got the rest.

Had quite a lot of work to do today. It was real hard to concentrate until later in the day. A worn and weak body does not help the mind work well.

Have you got some decent rubber on the TTR?

Devil

MT21's at the moment, but do have a set of MX tyres I could chuck on. Probably will be trailering there because I need to pick up a mate + dirt bike.

Cool, the MT21's will be ok, was just curious cause last time I saw the TTR it had a 80/20 on the rear, and that would just be asking for trouble.

What time are you thinking of heading out?

I might head out for a ride somewhere on sunday if I am not too hung-over from saturdays shenangans.
