The logging crew I work on has just moved into the Taneatua area, lucky us. Am wondering what there is in the way of cheap cheap places to stay a couple nights a week in a half hour or so radius of Tanevegas. Basicaiy i just want somewhere to have a feed and sleep. Was thinking something along the lines of a farmers shearers Quarters or even just a water tight caravan. I can offer firewood as part payment (eucalyptus). Any local knowledge much appreciated.

Where ever you go, make sure everything is tied down tight in that area, or else the light-fingered locals will make it theirs. Watch out also for flag-carrying natives who want to "discuss". And don't even think about taking a rifle into the bush for any reason.
It's only ten mins into whakatane from there, and I would be looking at backpackers etc.

I'm surprised your boss doesn't have something organised.

The boss is trying to be a tight arse. He wants everyone to travel every day. Its just over 2 hours each way from Putaruru. But he doesnt realise that I need to start work between 3:30 and 5 am to load trucks, I dont mind getting up early to travel over but its the drive home after such an early start that i dont like. That is just an accident waiting to happen. So hopefully if I can put a couple of options to him he might come around.

I suppose if he buys a six-sleeper crew wagon to park in a campground, it will turn into a piss wagon for sure.
The forest owners won't take kindly to park-ups in the forest proper. They will be knocking on your door for sure.

The rest of the crew are ok travelling they only work 7 to 3:30. If i go back to those sort of hours I loose too much income. The bike rego will never come off hold.
