It now turns out that, Dunlop have mucked him around with tyres, so he has had to change brands for this weekend also.
Man, I wish I had the money to get over there, and manage his racing properlly for him.

what are you trying to say Wayne?????
After seeing a link you posted last year with a short interview, I have to say I was rather disappointed with his "happy go lucky" attitude, I know that Pete went over there (picking old disc out of the bin and straightening them, as he has been known to do), and just as an observer (who can remember his first RS125 (with VT250 wheels fitted), I can see how far his equipment has come, and how much effort has gone in to getting him to where he is.
We all make mistakes (ahem), but I hope that Dominic really puts some effort in this year (the transponder thing, at this level is crazy.), there are dozens of youngsters in NZ coming up that would give their soul just for one race in that series.
I hope it is just a glitch in a really determined effort..... He has had some good finishes over the years, and from what I see on here, there are other Kiwi's ready to show him a wheel.
Perhaps if some other Kiwi riders are able to get there, it may well motivate him that little bit more!

I cannot speak for Dom, but can offer an opinion on your above comments.
"Happy Go lucky attitude" He is a bottle of energy, that has it under control, I can gaurantee you he is Very focused on his future!
Forgetting the transponder! He is his OWN MECHANIC also, NO HELP< JUST HIM!!!!
"Dozens of youngsters coming up" Carefull re giving there teeth mate. DOM has worked harder than any rider I have seen trying to get out of this country to race professionally over seas. Drove all over USA on his, living out of a CHILLY bin, and making himself sandwiches when he was hungry, and sleapt in the van alone, Hard young manm, from the OLD school of KIWI Males.

That is pure commitment and even from what I have seen when he comes back fitness training the young guys down South putting back in which is a big thing I think in crediting someone one reason what I like about yourself you made a name for yourself and you continue to put back into the sport were as some top riders just give it up thats it
I think Dom will do well for himself he is a nice young guy to

Sounds like a fuckin awesome adventure that he'll look back on he in years to come, regardless of his future, and thoroughly remember as the good days.

I can see what he is saying but ill try be more positive... What do you think the differance is between Dom riding in NZ opposed to riding in the States. He was top 5 in NZ and top 10 in the states, does that mean our top riders could be maybe top 5? Or does that mean Dom is on better gear on the states and his ability makes him go quicker or he likes the tracks better?
Its never a good indication to say oh i beat that guy i must be able to go to the states and do better. Ben Townley was back home here recently and our top pro riders were able to match his speed most of the time but there is no way they could say oh i was right behind Ben back home here, maybe if i did the world round at Glen Helen i could have got 2nd?? No.....

Good on ya Choppa
Dom has a MAJOR arm pump problem, that only show;s up here in NZ. WHY? in the USA they can use quick shifters, so NO ARM pump for Dom.
He did a lot of test and development riding for Ohlin;s nz whilst out here, and together, we came up with a setting that was used by 4 other riders, thanks Dom!
Jimmy Smith, Nick Cole. Glen Skachill and 2-3 others, could be over there, and in the top 10.
Dom could and will be doing even better than top 10, as soon as some special suspension parts arrive at his house

I have heard its really expensive to get an AMA licence? The mx guys said like 10k or something stupid? What are the costs involved over and above the standard that we wouldnt really think of....

Im sure i saw him near the pointy end in most races, from what i was told he was just doing it for a bit of a play and he was riding on diff tyres and a 600 that he wasnt used to.
It is cool that he is doing well in AMA though its an inspiration to other riders.
I think Shaun should put a thread up on what it would take for a rider to just go to america and do a round? Is it even possible to do it by yourself?

the big cost is the medical insurance, not so much the racing liceince, you also have to get a sporting visa or a work permit so you can collect the prizemoney and contingency, it can be done,

I sense a wee bit of the kiwi knocking machine in action here from wayne I have to say. Well, it seems that way.
In my opinion it is irelevant what Doms results are. He is over there, far away from home, mostly on his own (sure he will have built a retinue of mates by now) and living his dream.
I have done it myself, not in bike racing, but in my career of science, and there is no better feeling than to be living and working around the world.
9th, 15th, 20th, who cares?
1st would be awsome and everyone including him would be thrilled to see it, but what stories he will have to tell to his kids ay? (That is assuming any woman would be crazy enough to let him touch her!)
The suggestion above of a sort of manual of what is needed to be done from a technical viewpoint would be a very useful resource I am sure.
Goes to show that it can be done and that you don't need all the money in the world to get going, mostly just the decision to do it and then do it.
Good luck to him and anyone else that goes and has a go.
Now, when is that NZ Moto2 team getting formed. I am first in line to be a part of that!

# NB International License OK!!!
I am also having a race related budget, ie, testing, qualifing, and racing costing done for the SB CLASS and the Pro Daytona 600 class
Will post when finished.
At least Dom is giving it a go he has got off his arse to get over there unlike a lot of people who demand and think they should get everything for free
Dom is a true sportsman!

I don't think there is too much of a "knocking machine" ( a terrible Kiwi trait) going on here Steve, just some reality.
I really would like too see Dominic come good in the series (just the fact he is there gives him credibility, as well as his supportive parents), I try to follow his achievements, and would really like too see him further up the field (I can remember his first National points race, you where there too actually).
I am not knocking him, far form it actually, Shaun pointed out that he is "doing everything himself", but that is nothing new for him, or 70% of the competitors at the IOM, or anywhere else for that matter.
Perhaps just a case of "tough love"

That would make for some interesting reading Shaun! I could just ask next time i see you but im sure it would be good for everyone to hear....
Id be interested in hearing about other local championships, what would be the best tracks etc even just for a one off race or a track day just to check your times etc
I heard a rumour about Stroudy getting an AMA offer???

I know the rumour RE Stroudie and an offer is NOT a rumuor
I arranged the contact for it to happen, through a friend over there that I have raced for before, and the bike is very very horny.

Man that would be cool! I hope it works out for him, it would be interesting to see how he goes. It seems in NZ he can just turn it on when he needs to. If he is racing in the AMA he might have to really push but id say the results would be very good!
Would be hard on the family situation?

WOOT! Fingers toes and foreskin are crossed that it all falls into place!
He's already proven he can get the job done over there and he sure isn't getting any slower. The AMA is wide open at the moment, with the lower spec bikes, and some of the top guys not riding. Someone like Stroudie could be a real bolter. Bugger ya Shaun, got my hopes up now......
Back to Dom though, I've got respect for anyone who gets off the couch and does it. Doesn't matter what it is. To get off the couch, and go to another country, to do it, is a magnitude of difficulty harder again. To achieve pretty impressive results on top of that, with virtually zero practical support is just awesome. It's not like he's doing a cushy 9 - 5 with a guaranteed income and home with the wife and kids every night.
