View Full Version : Memorial Ride for Flyin 29/05/05 (Martinborough)
In the previous thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=11837&page=2&pp=15) for the ride that took place on the 15th, it was mentioned that another ride would take place on the 29th.
Anyone still up for it? Any recommended time/meeting place?
Cheers,
bear

Sel1 pm'd me last night, sorry guys & gals I more than likely won't make it now. Due to the shite weather my paint job hasn't been finished and my bike is in bits waiting for the master to finish his work.
I'd like to go and pay my respects at some stage so maybe if someone can gimme directions I can take a ride over when I have Betty back.
Cheers CSL.

I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes...
Yes, thats rights folks! It's gonna be WET on Sunday!
I'll be going out on Saturday, but JUST for a recreational ride, you know, scare old ladies, give my front tyre a bit of a rest and make little boiii racers cry.
That is, of course, assuming I can get my bloody bike out the garage! The grass in front of it has been like a wetland for a week now  and I'm too scared it'll sink or I'll slip hahaha.

Sorry folks..
I'm currently in a boutique hotel in New Plymouth (the lady wot books these things at our work likes to surprise me) and will just get back in time to attend the Diabetes Wellington stand at Wishtopia on saturday.. Buy the time sunday rolls up and I discover the wof has indeed expired and I should have bought that new front tyre last week it all might be too much...

I 'll be up for it if the weather is good. As the bit under my name suggests I am a fair weather rider. Although I have not had a ride out here yet with fair weather for the whole ride!!!!
If all is good I am happy to take CSL if your keen :D

unless the weather is really shite i'll be there, what's the matter you bunch of softies, skin's waterproof, or are you scared of getting your bikes wet. You should ride an old cheapy like I do. Come on toughen up ! :devil2:
Seriously I can only ride at the weekend ( and I live in the Manawatu so a few showers don't frighten me ) and work most Saturdays so I have to take advantage of a free day. Will be pleased to meet any who can make it

Looking at the weather report (gusty, strong northeries and morning rain) I think I'll pull out as I only have a trail bike at the moment.
And I did the earlier memorial ride.
I'll check the weather in the morning anyway.
Is that wishy-washy or what?!

Got my punture fixed today, got a few other things sorted, looks like I am cleared for takeoff Sunday.
CSL I can give you a ride if you want.

Is anyone still going..? The weather looks stink, but I'll still come if someone else is...
I'm still keen, latest weather is rain easing to showers, northwest gales easing.

I'm still going, the weather's not too bad in Palmy at the moment, know it can be different on the other side but it's about time my new leathers got wet
Are you going to the Caltex Rimutaka Phantom, or meet you at the Flying Fish?
phantom

Let me know if anyone is up for Caltex, or just meet ya'll at the Fish.

Well, hoping to meet folk at the Caltex at 10.30?
It's cleared up a bit here now, too - was really pissing it down when I woke up!
If you're not going to be there, how long will you be at the Fish? Will try not to get lost, but I could get lost in a paper bag...
Original plan was to leave the fish at noon, so unless someone wants to change it we'll stick with that I suppose.

Sorry guys and girls but when I woke up at 8.00 and heard the rain I turned over and went back to sleep. I have had 3 ride outs in this country so far and all have had rain at some point. In 2 years in the UK I got rained on twice!!! Sam knew how much I hate the rain, so will make it over there on a dry Sunday.
Hope all went well for those of you that decided to go.

Met up with Jaz and Bear at Caltex UH and rode over the hill in the rain. It cleared up a bit by the time we got to the Fish, where we were joined by Phantom who rode down from Palmy. They were sold out of flowers at MB store so Jaz bought a card which we all signed and we rode out to the site and tied the card to the signpost that had had flowers placed by it. (Unfortunately a white card against a white post dosent show up well in the photo). A moment of quiet reflection and we were on our way to Masterton where we farewelled Phantom and headed home. Fairly wet and windy on the 'Takas but otherwise uneventful ride home.
Paid a solo visit to the spot yesterday. First fine weekend day in ...weeks. Quite a shrine on the corner now with it's own purpose built fence for the crosses and flower holders for the others that died on that corner in 2002.
Be spontaneous folks. If you all try and plan a week ahead you give the rain time to join you.

Managed to get a few photos myself before the batteries died on the camera. First one is of the bikes parked up just around the corner, second one is of phantom, Jazbug and Sels1 at the memorial for the two tourists.
Found a decent size piece of grey fairing down a bank nearby. Quite a solemn experience!

Had rain all the way over from Palmy but fine at Martinborough and got to meet my first live KBers, then back in wind and rain all the way to Palmy again. Never mind it's all miles on the road, more experience in adverse conditions and a timely reminder about riding within my ability and the conditions
