......and we planned to go this year so this is it, leaving NZ for a 6 week hoon to Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Canada then home for a break :Punk:

Ironically it has been warmer in Iceland than Wanaka by some 10 -13 degrees every day.

Luckily we booked and paid our tickets end of March then Eyjafjallajokull did the burps 14th April so we are covered if it turns to shit!

There are several other larger threats as well, Katla is the main one that has potential to do monumental amount of damage and make Eyjafjallajokull seem like an unwanted wet fart.

So no motorcycling for 6 weeks, my therapist said it should not take too long to get over it, I was gonna hire a bike at various stages but in Sweden etc I would have to part with my left nut and Canada remortgage the house ($1000 kiwis for two days :shit:)

That is 1 1/2 sets of tyres here so it will have to be a bike free holiday.

Anyway, we leave Thursday lunch to Auckaloafa then on the tin bird north.

We will have internet access along the way so will post a few pics with a trip report or two on our big adventure (albeit without handlebars).

Iceland is a popular destination for Kiwi's this year... some friends of mine are heading over mid next month for some cycling & hiking, so if you see another NZ couple, probably arriving as you are leaving, say hi to Karl & Sheryl for me (you'll recognise Karl by the bottom-of-a-coke-bottle glasses)

Cheers

I'm off to Sweden tomorrow on business. The weather there seems to have improved dramatically over the past week or so whereas here it has taken somewhat of a dive...
Interested to hear of the costs of bike hire there as I have the weekend free in Stockholm and was considering hiring a bike to have a look around. Might need to reconsider that plan. Have a good trip. cheers

I looked into bike hire when I went over to Sweden a couple of years ago, it was expensive but wouldn't have been too bad just for a weekend. Ended up going with a workmate so we got a car, but I can thoroughly recommend a weekend riding or driving around the Swedish countryside, lots of neat roads, get an adv bike if possible for all the scenic gravel bits.

Cheers

Thanks for the well wishes lads, will clock in from time to time.

Will keep an eye out for your mates Clint cos the pace ain't that big.

trumpy, we have a rental car which worked out pretty good, $2000.00 NZ for 3 weeks unlimited mileage and fully insured so we don't n e e d a bike I just wanted one.

We will prolly get out on the MTBs if we can Colin, be a total hire of gear of course but maybe a bit of a letdown after riding my GT Carbon force pro which is as lite as a fart (bloody thing worth more than the Suzuki!!).

Either way it will be awesome to say the least, love roads trips!!

Catch up later gents.

Good morning lads, in Montreal now, back home on the 12th July.

Been having a great trip away, seen shitloads of adventure bikes in Scandi, only a few in Iceland..... every one that went past made me feel empty while sitting in our rental cage.

Iceland was simply unbelieveable, any thinking of going just do it, if we had the knowledge back then for what we were in for we would have extended our stay there for a lot longer.

Iceland has an absolute stark beauty, no trees to speak of other than the odd small patch here or there, not even enough to shelter from.

Had an epic fail leaving our tent poles in Geyser in Iceland mainland then headed to Heimeiy (westerman island) with a tin roof then flying out and over to Sweden and arrive at Vastaeres only to find we couldn't put up the tent.

We pulled the tent down at Geyser in the pissing rain and wind and somehow the all the poles bar one got left behind, this was the last place we had em thus we assumed they are there, ultimate result is not being able to get poles we had to get a new tent which wasn't in the budget.

Other than that we have been to Sweden, Danmark, Norway, Finland and back to Sweden, have done over 9000km in two rental cars.

Will bang up a heap of photos when we get back to NZ as I don't have facillity here to reduce the picture size for the forum.

Better sign off now and go and enjoy the 30 deg heat and sun outside ....WOH HOH..... without rubbing it in ....

Sorry for any typos.. bit tired at the mo

We've been riding motorbikes.
In the mud, over rocks, pine needles, river crossings, forestry tracks.

But not enjoying it at all. Oh no, not at all.

Hope you get sunstroke.
