View Full Version : Long Weekend Friday

If you have any thoughts of heading North this Friday for the long weekend, choose another route other than SH1 though Warkworth.
A protest Group consisting of tractors/trucks/cars and horses plan a motorcade between Puhoi and Warkworth on Friday afternoon. Speeds will range from 15-30kph!

Now, any long weekend on SH1 through here normally, has a few hours delay at the best of times.
Throw this lot into the mix and the delay/queue could be the worst ever.
They are protesting the lack of action on a petition to move parts of the district into Kaipara and out of the planned Super City or some shit.

In a nutshell....Go Another Way!

You could try, but as my daughter is home I doubt you will be very welcome. That is why we have to go away for a weekend of debauchery, she does not approve if we try to at home :D

The NZ Transport Agency advises people travelling north from Auckland for the Queen’s Birthday holiday weekend to allow extra time for travel because of a possible protest on State Highway 1 north of Puhoi on Friday [4 June].

I think this is a good opportunity to get a few bikes to join the protest, which is about various Rodney District issues, and vent your spleens over the $2 toll.

It seems some non-bikers aren't as concerned about upsetting other motorists by inconveniencing them.

Just saw on Te News - Rodney residents (insert your own hick jokes here) decided to do a drive-slow on the Toll Road in protest of being included in the Supercity.

12 vehicles. Phew. Talk about a huge statement.

Awesome.
