got trashed.. pics below.

I heard the story third-hand, so I'll fill in if I get anything wrong.

The guy riding with his gf, she's a nervous newbie on the back.. Heading down some twisties, generally enjoying the ride and going well. Came up to a bridge and a car coming at them just wouldn't shift across the road, so avasive action was taken. He swerved to the left, but then had to swerve right again to make the bridge, all while braking hard. The front caught gravel and came down, then smacked into one of the Amco posts and went off under the bike, all while they're both still clinging onto the bike.. This spat them both off across the road and the bike went sky-ward. Fortunately, both of them walked away with minor bruises and shaken, but never the less, walked away from it. This guy treasured his bike from new. Had it since '98 and did something like 70,000ks on his much loved bike..

Oh shit I bet the poor guy is in tears, that would be like taking his son/daughter away, fuck I'm sick of the stupid imbreed drivers we have.

That was one sexy arse TL to :(

actually, he was surprisingly philosophical about the whole thing. He's sad for his bike, but he's shrugging it off. Either has a life time of experiance to be thankful of, and it's just a bike.. or he's in denial..

More importantly will the car driver be held resposible, dangerous driving and all that??

That's sad. Second lot of busted up bike pics I've seen today.

The others were a newish VFR800, that was totalled when someone turned in front of the rider without signalling.
The guy was lucky(ish); he was uninjured apart from his nads; the second picture is of the dent in his tank left by his groin.

Denial does some sad things what’s the bet 12 hours after the crash he huddled up in the corner and cried himself to sleep..

Except for the fact that a bike is replaceable.
Indeed. It's just a 'thing'.
I've written off two bikes now, (and a car) and none of the losses were particularly emotional (unlike the effect the physical pain had....)

Except for the fact that a bike is replaceable.
I'd prefer not to have to replace the bikes - and yes I've had more than one personal experience, although I'm happy that I came out ok sometimes I wonder if maybe I broke an arm I could have saved a fairing etc..

At least these people got off the side safely, that is all - all I know is if I lost that bike in my current state of mind - I would be more than allowed to cry.

That's a horrific set of photos alright. Ouch.
Just one question, Bug (just because I'm curious/nosy) do you happen to know why the driver was head on at them? I mean, had they crossed the centre line or was it one of those funky bridges with right of way to one direction?
Either way, the cage driver was a total cockroach.

The guy with the TL1000R still has a mint pillion cover :D

Is that swanmans R1 in the background of the first VFR pic?

bugjuice

Don't know anything about the driver. I'm not even sure if he/she stopped. I think I heard they didn't, but I could be wrong. And it is a write-off (a snapped head shown in a coulpe of shots secured that outcome..)

Viff, that's a nasty accident too.. Poor dude nuts must be like watermelons!

sounds like the bridge was one of those narrow 2-lane ones, and the driver was being lazy in their lane. He said that he would have slowed if the road signs said that it was a narrow bridge, but there weren't any, so we/I can only assume that traffic can pass each other, just have to breathe in..

Tis on;t 'just a bike', but it was something he treasured dearly. But can be replaced, and he is very thankful they both walked from it..

Swanny's R1 is an 04, with the undertail exhausts.. does look like it tho..

The only time I was pissed off after an off was when I crashed my cage and didn't have insurance - $3g out of my pocket.

As long as I have insurance - I'm at peace -

Insurance on a sports 250 while under 25 is bloody useless - I ended up paying repairs myself (3k) because I would have lost to much, which of course pisses me off - as soon as I can I'm getting 3rd party and taking my chances screw it..

Sorry offtopic :(

Just thought id put some of the story right on this one.

They were down at the coromandel for the weekend. And the girl had never been on a bike, so the rider took her for a real gentle ride - i know him well, and he wouldnt have been going crazy or nothing.

They pulled over and she was ready to head back, so he was heading back to their bach, when he comes up on this slow as car - as i said, he wasnt speeding, but this car was going way below the limit - so he gently passes the car and then continues at his moderate pace back home.

For what ever reason, the cager decides that this isnt good enough and comes right up the bikes arse. Now i dont know about you guys, but this always gets my attention - and has me looking hard in each mirror going "WTF IS THIS COCK UP TO?" - so anyway, the cagers right on his back wheel, and the riders doing exactly what i said - keeps looking back at this cock, and he told me he was just about to either A) pull over and let the prick pass (Since hes got a newb on the back of the bike) OR B) gun it a bit, to leave this fucknut behind.

But then suddenly hes on the bridge - first he notices of it is the rough change in road surface. And the bridge at a bend in it - hes going to fast for the small bridge, crap road - brakes hard - locks up - knows full well theres no way to get around the corner at the speed hes doing and basically as said above, the bike goes into the bridge wall/post - hitting at what he thinks was about 80km/h.

The bike catapults both him and the newb girl up the road - and heres the bit that pisses me off the most - that cock arse cager that was tailgating... rides over bits of the smashed bike that are now scattered across the road - swerves to avoide the rider sliding down the road... changes down and gear and drives off.... leaving both people on the side of the road.

Too bad if they were bleeding to death - the fucking cager didnt even stop to check if they were alright.

Anyway, the riders been beating himself up abit - hes just so glad the girl was ok - other than bruises etc - and yeah, he just hates the fact that he let that dumb arse cager steal his attention for the second too long....

Happens to the best of us though...

Thats fucken rude, i feel for the rider, crashing with a passenger is about my worst fear, even if it wasn't my fault, i'd still hate to deal with something like that.

Hope he can get a bike to ride soon, some rotten luck.

I am glad they are not hurt.

Shit that stories sad, I can relate to it - I'm forever stuck in the mirror with the dicks up here, I think keeping the eye on the road is the best idea from now on, poor bloke - hope he doesnt blame himself for ever, and the chick doesnt blame the dude - wasnt his fault :(

Yeah, me too. Worst thing about riding with my wife on the back is I'm always worried about crashing, and this takes away a lot of the enjoyment of sharing biking with her. Doesn't help that it's that much harder riding with the extra weight / less manoeuverability, so we're actually more likely to crash, even though I ride much more carefully.

Main thing is they walked away. Feel sad for the fact that his female pillion was a first time passenger, and will probably never get on a bike again, which truely sucks!. It's an awesome past time.

You'd want to get hold of that arsehole in the car and give him a beating, hope the prick feels bad for what he done!.

Onwards and upwards.........

Hope they reported it to the police. Leaving the scene of an accident. Failing to render assistance. And if the cage hit bits of bike, then he's a party to the accident, so probably failing to report an accident to a police officer within 24 hours.

Do for a start, thn throw in the tailgating.

Then we all go visit him.

such a nice bike, and to know that the owner loved it, its like loosing a realy good friend, who is always there for you, or an extension of oneself.
