Looking for battery charging help on North Shore, please

Hi there. Tried to fire up the VL250 after a long hiatus (months) and the battery is DEAD.

Was wondering

1) Is it likely a charge of a 3 year old battery that's been left to go flat will work?
2) Any one on the North Shore have a charger that they'd be willing to host my battery on overnight to see if it will work?

I can come to you (not asking for a lon) and provide 6 beers of your preferred variety for having a go (if you think it's worth a shot)

Yeah - I'm relatively new to biking but I figured I was screwed - small battery, lead acid, doesn't sound good to me... Cheers to p.dath too

I should stipulate I'm wanting a reliable battery for riding at the end of this - not just enough to get to the Warrant station

I'm on the Shore (Torbay) and have a 12V charger.

Might need to do the same for mine one of these days - I have not been riding for a wee while. Charging does take a helluva long time for a really flat battery though (or maybe it's just my charger). I left it on overnight last time I did this.

Lead acid batteries deteriorate over time due to sulfation (sp?). Basically the lead sulfate forms in a crystal state (rather than staying in solution) which does not break down when charging.

When they are fully discharged this process speeds up, so over months a whole bunch of the stuff will have formed. More crystals = less charge.

The bat may well take a charge but its charge capacity will be reduced. The question is how much? Time will tell.

CHeers for the offers and knowldege sharing - the guys at Holeshot are trying a charge to see if it will take one - I needed to get a part while I was in there but didn't expect them to charge the battery for nothing - but they offered so I said yes.

It's got to go for it's 5000km service anyway so charging it lets me ride it to them I guess

If it does take a charge, it might a good spare for the shelf if you have a charger to maintain it.
