heard of a ball end hammer?? use the ball end...and hold a regular hammer on the otherside at sametime firmly to take the shock.

Do a search. I wouldn't do this (again). Most chain rivets aren't designed for impact riveting.

Impact riveting is fine dave...there are many many millions more chains in commercial and industrial applications than on motorcycles...engineers, mechanic's regularly use balls end hammers. and rarely do they have chain tools...as with the many many different sizes available...they would have to own alot of chain tools!!

Difference is that engineers and mechanics probably know what they're trying to achieve (finish wise) and have had experience at achieving that.
The tools aren't that expensive and you'll only ever need to buy one in your lifetime. Charge the boys beer and it'll pay for itself over that time too.
