2010 Battle of the Buckets
Including the 50cc NZ GP

Pre-Entry ONLY

Saturday the 7th of August. Sign in will start at 7:40 and we aim to be on track at 9am

This event will also provide racing for Motards, Pre82/89, Streetstock.

We aim to have a minimum of 6 rounds for every class, so a lot of track time is available.

We have been lucky with the date available because its the same weekend as another race meet so we can have two days racing for those that will travel the extra distance.

Bren,
I could be struggling to get over by 7:30AM, I'll try my best. But it's dependant on what the passes are like on the day.
Is it OK to pre-enter and get there a bit late?

Cheers

OK I've booked a ticket on the Ferry to go down lunchtime friday & head back late sunday night.

I'm doing the BoB, so to speak.

So who's a keen N.Islander to do the BOB? You'll have to pay for your own ferry ticket & chip in for gas. I've got accom with friendly bucketeer & he would be ok with another I'm sure. Must have licence in case I bang myself up & need to get van back.

Unless someone has a reasonably fast good tyred 100 near wgtn they want to loan us?

My old RGV 125 is no more, though the barrel went to Harry down there as he bought Tony Mac's old one. Don't think he has ever got it up & going there.

Thanks for the Offer Hels, after my last off I don't want to risk riding on anything but slicks & decent ones at that. Getting too old for the tarmac interface.

. . .Hmm, I wonder if I could borrow my old H back?

Yeah a few repairs needed to the leathers, don't think I need vents where they are at the moment.

Bit embarrassing the second fall but Gav I can confirm that there was 80% grip, just not 81%

so. . . looking at the entry form - the fee structure does seem a little biased to getting you to join the BRMC. . . This probably seemed like a good idea, but it does make it $20 to $25 more expensive for people traveling to the event.

Bren_chch
23rd June 2010, 10:10
Sorry about that, we figured that $65 for non club members was actually not a bad price considering the amount of track time and yes if you become a member its $5 cheaper so that a total of $60 for the day. Basically the Club had no money to run the event and like you say the extra 20/25 all adds up. It’s all about growing this club and making it what it should be but unfortunately that means ruffling some feathers for the good of the club.

Hope you and others can still come down.

F5 Dave
23rd June 2010, 10:56
The cost didn't bother me so much as the principle of being taxed for being a northener. I mean I can't imagine any traveling SI guys turning up to an event up here & them saying, oh that'll cost you more because you're not from 'round these parts.

When I go to trail rides run by Horo club they give their members $5 discount. If you do enough rides it is worth joining the club, if you're local it makes sense anyway. But to do it on one event?
I'll just pay up & shut up, but you get my point yeah?

Buddha#81
23rd June 2010, 12:18
The Cams Club did a simular thing at Methven Street Race. There were 2/3's of the 120 strong field that were more than happy to join the Cams club to race at that meet. This was more angled at the local guys that choose to race buckets but not see a need to belong to the BRMC, this is our way of ensuring the club grows and stays strong. Dont worry the extra money is for the GROWTH of the club with some cool future vision that the current committee has, oh and maybe a trip to Philip Island for the next MotoGP round.

Basicly this has come down to a few of the local guys questioning the value of joining the BMRC.........Here is the value!

Kendog
23rd June 2010, 12:46

Bren and I just discussed the North Island having to join the club thing, and for all North Island entrants it will be wavered, as I explained it was really to get the locals supporting the club! Sorry to Dave and any others looking at coming down from the North......you now have more beer tokens to spend on your hosts!

F5 Dave
23rd June 2010, 16:06
Awesome. Now that is fair & encouraging people to travel.

There you go NI guys, an incentive to come down. As I said I have spare van space, will cost you your ferry tickets & some gas money. We can sort accom for free (bottle of wine etc).

Muzzab
27th June 2010, 13:51
Hi,

As far as I know it's all in, (we don't do A and B) but it's not a problem as the fast guys dissappear after the first couple of corners and the rest of us have our own battles in the middle or tail end. If it's 5 laps of b-track I used to get lapped just before starting my 5th lap (a real bugger as thats it for the race) but more lately I have managed to start the 5th lap before anyone comes zooming past. In the BoB I'm anticipating seeing the fast guys go passed quite a few times. I haven't had any problems being passed by anyone down here (they may have a different opinion of passing me wobbling aroung the track of course). Cheers Muzza

There seems to be some confusion over the NZ50GP. This is not the F5 GP. It is run under open rules so you could bring a Kreidler 50 or whatever assuming you could lay your hands on one. Would be an interesting race on old skinny tyres vs a modern but commuter based bucket 50.

Ok then... I've got a special guest rider who will be riding the factory MotoFXR bike, not only has he been a national champion but also an australian champion so he's going to clean you all up in the 55min race... Oh he not gana clean me up though... ummmm i better speak to him about that and make sure he knows the team rules!

My special 2 stroke motor tested last weekend and lasted a full race with no issues apart from the clutch cable breaking... doh. not too sure if i'm going to have time to fit it in the rs125 chassis, if not i'll be running a more sedate engine in the rs125 frame.

So as you can see i've got it all worked out! Factory rider for MotoFXR might be the upset winner!

Sorry guys team ESE have failed miserably to get down there, the bike Avlon rode last year still needs the new ignitech ignition sorted, my new FZR G100 Av rode it at the last Mt Welly meeting only to have the ring locating pin to come out and kill it (pistons with the right size pin are hard to come by these days) and TZ he has that much work and ideas he may be ready for next year!!! anyway you will have to put a motel on the back straight for TZ and me cause we will need a cup of tea and lie down 30 minutes into it, lucky we have ring ins and of course Av gets first choice. Hope it all goes well for you, wish we could be there.

The suspense is killing me!!
What happened? Did it snow? Who fell off? How many Welly crew finished? And who won?:wait:

Yow Ling
7th August 2010, 20:26
OK it didnt snow, track was wet this morning so practice and first race were wet, then a dry line formed everyone got brave and the pace really picked up. We had practice and 2 rounds before the BOB. Also racing were street stock, motards and P82/89. there was no pissing round between rounds so everyone was kept on their toes. BOB got underway with everyone making it through the warmup lap, hasnt always been like this. then with the wave of the flag we were away, bla bla racing Rich Ban fast Hoogies even faster. Ace rider Denis Charlet ran over his exhaust pipe and punctured, Dangerous caused trouble, crash here and there Race stopped cos Gav made the tyres roll onto the track. Restart, more of the same I lapped people , people lapped me It was great.

Good to see the wellington crowd down here , they all survived . A mighty good day a few engines expired , alot of tired aching people .

Made a video of the whole race , came out OK , Bren is going to You tube it next week , cos I cant

Hey its Bears tomorrow anyone going ?? its raining , Im going to sleep in !

Thanks to Bren and MCI John Hecker and Wendy , also the support crew that we cant race without. Top job guys !!

Hey its Bears tomorrow anyone going ?? its raining , Im going to sleep in!

Yea I was going to go, will go for a drive and see if they will be running, but looking at the weather forecast I doubt they'll get many wanting to stay and race. It's only 5 minutes from home so no hassle to see whats going to happen. After the few slides I had today and stayed upright I don't want to push it too much. I had a 2 wheel drift after the front washed out and somehow and I mean somehow caught it and carried on in the first wet race.

My day started shitty unloading the bucket noticed it had a flat rear, pumped it up and found a chunk of wire in my new rear slick  Yesterday Bren threw me a dunlop front off his 600 for my motard and with plenty of help I had it fitted and it was into the unknown, plenty of "it'll be fine" from those that didn't have to ride on it.

the pre BOB sprints were hectic as always and man not doing the BEARs points series has isolated me from the real world and the new crew have certainly picked u the pace or I've got old and slow.

BOB was its usually mixed bag of fast, slow, broken and bent. My post red flag pace seemed mush better and my confidence in the dot tyre on the rear was good and I think its superior to a slick.....definitely no worse. At the 50 min mark I lost concentration and ran wide on the ripple strip onto the back straight. I went to drop it into the kink and the bike wobbled like a flat rear, I stood it up and ran off onto the grass. Back at the pits I found its snapped the top eye off the shock!

Thanks to Dennis being hard and breaking the Factory bike I flogged the rear shock and finished the days racing.

Good day in all thanks to those who gave there time, I haven't been this shagged in ages, must be too old!

Dangerous caused trouble! Me a trouble maker? not possible... but if ya meaning when Cris Mc (cbT) went down in a heap, well yeah I went past on the out side and closed the door as I think (cos only Chris saw him) C Jones went under him, CM stood it up as matt followd me and CM hit Matt.

Tell me about it :weep: Id blame Ghost bullet

So, awesome day... I kicked the arses of all those that usually hound me on a borrowed bike (similer tune to mine, but a different feel for some reason) only close calls were with D Charlot, comming out the hair pin he tried shortening my foot in his frount wheel and very last corner he arsed up and to avoid him I took the grass track allthe way back to the checkered, so proberly dosent count cos I crossed the line out side the cones, but it want for the lack of trying to get back on the seal, the grass was like ice.

Gave a Duc 400 a spin for the 1st time in posties and took a 2nd place, I want one of them it was an awesome wee bike very managable.

Bit of a report.

The wet track in race one was hard to get used to. I got a good start and planned on finding someone fast to follow and learn some lines. I quickly learned that there is no messing around and got passed buy heaps of people on a different planet. That would be planet really fast. I got back passed a few people and started having fun. The fun just didn't stop from there. Another sprint race and a dry line and things got lifted to another level again got 3rd or 4th or whatever. BOB race and was starting to really get into the grove. I was trying to stay with the front runners but just could not live at that pace. After the restart I felt great and managed to hang at the front for quite a while I think I got 3rd or 4th. The sprint races after that were my highlight some hard racing. The final all in with the streetstocks was the best. A 5 way wheel to wheel race to the flag. My bro said the crowed were buzzing watching that race, shouting and screaming. I managed to take the win with a committed pass around the outside on the final corner. Thanks again to Brendan for all the hard work that meant no riding all day for him. And also all the marshals and everyone for the best racing ever. Bring on the next one.

Well my disappointment was that not enough people entered to run the 50GP which was a bit sucky as there were like 15 bikes last time. So I lost the cup to . . . apathy.

The track was pretty 'orrible in the morning. I had a big rear slide when out of the raceline & was feeling very ginger, like I'd forgotten teh track, which largely I had. I was kindly offered a ride of a 100, but I just didn't gell with it (as it slipped out of gear in a wet corner) I decided to ride the 50 in the BOB.

Boy there were heaps of people. My bike did it's recent trick of bogging on the line & when it cleared everyone was at the first corner. Took me ages to get passed people, I'd get them & they'd drag me off again.

Then the race was restarted & the bike bogged again, so same old scene. Still was a great race.

I enjoyed the after races. One I borrowed Diesil's 100 & after a few laps getting used to it found myself considerably nearer the sharper end of the field, but sadly too far adrift. The last all in race of course the 50 felt slow as, but did manage to score past a few 150 streetstocks which is always good on a tiddler.

Today's racing was called off. Flooded track.

Thanks Bren & all the rest ofr putting on a good show.

Skunk & I are just waiting for the ferry, should be home by 2 this morning. Work tomorrow.

Well I got to bed ~ 3 & still to work almost on time.

Still a buzz that track. It seems simple, but to get that extra amount the locals have learnt a thing or two.. Hooking in behind Budha toward the end of the day taught me a thing or two, but there are still lines the Hoogis are taking that I need to get my head around, but different bikes need different approaches anyway.

Oh yeah Sorry again to the chap I tangled with going past. With that many bikes & differing styles it's hard to predict who will drift & who you can nip around the outside.

Actually it is odd racing against guys & bikes you've never seen before. Some once you were past you were ok. I might have to block a corner or two (like out of the hairpin where I was slow getting pedaling again) so I could get away.

& others like No7 wouldn't give up & if I got held up by someone or made a mistake would zing past. Barsteward! Good racing though.

Surprising how few slow riders there were out there.

Cam Jones and Nick Cain both had problems. Cam started towards the back and pee'd around for a lap or two while Nick and Alistair headed off at the front. Once Cam got past James Hoogie on the totally stock FXR he then took a while to shake off No 45 from Wellington and set off after Nick and Al. The 3 of them hung out well ahead of 4th for quite a while then Cam passed Nick a fair few times till he gapped him and took on Alistair. As Nick fell back Cam passed Alistair, and was repassed until at the red flag point, (about half distance?) Cam was leading by a small gap.
In the restart Nick didn't go out cos of a waterpump leak and Cam / Alistair got back into it again. Then after about 10mins Cam's bike crapped out with a fuel problem. (dirt / water in the system?)
The pace and skill thru the feild was pretty good, and to be near the front very much so.
Cam the '08 125GP champ, Alistair the '10 champ, James Hoogie Pro Twin '10 #2.
We're very lucky to have such a great circuit that suits the FXR's. Good results come without big bucks. James' bike bog stock, Cam's only has a carb and pipe.
A big thanks to Bren and Bucket Club for a good event

Ahhhh, it was Nicks bike that was pissing water out!! Thats what caused me to hit the tyres
Hoggie #1 came under me into the hairpin, I lifted up and ran wide and Cam, James and Nick all went past. I was distracted by the water leaking out of the breather pipes on Nicks bike and looked up to see me heading straight for some tyres that were on the edge of the track but on the tarmac. Hit them pretty hard but stayed on so just kept going :innocent: Didnt realise they had bowled out onto the track, sorry about that :shit: .
