I have 3 adventure bikes which 2 of them I had been registering every year, now I'll only register when I feel I have to (e.g. big trip) and 3 months at a time. Interestingly my older bike which was on hold, I went register it for 3 months for a weekend trip and they would only allow me to register for 6 months ($250) because I guess it was only 1 week from the 3 months since I put it on hold (I didn't register and went on the trip anyway).
I drive a car to work (another rego) and my my bikes are purely for fun. Sue me for having the money for such luxuries, oh I guess they are.

Unless you change registered owner... that costs $9.40... then the 'new' registered owner can relicense it for 1 day... put it on exemption from continuous licensing... rinse and repeat... :shifty:

Since the local Fuzz are hammering the bikes here & not want to fork out $400 for no Reg /Wof took the RSVR to get them 2day , asked for 3months reg as I wasn't needing to long as I still have my TT500 to ride , $138 for 3months hollyshit !!! ask what 2 months was $114 so 3 it was just as well the Wof ws only $29 . Tempting to leave it on hold & just have Wof but surcome to the Pressure ..........

This is kinda insanely cool. So from what I'm understanding here regarding form MR27 is:
If my bike ended it's paid rego on 15th june, then it would finish it's stand down on 15 Sep (this period could be reset by paying $9 and changing owner).
If I then fill out the MR27 and stat that I need to reset my rego period to for instance Sep 27 there would be an outstanding bill of $6-7 administration and 1 weeks worth of registration.
Does this sound correct?

Does this sound correct?Correct. If you exempted it on or before 15 June, then when you wanted to use it within the 3 months (or didn't exempt it and did the following within 2 months), then changed the registered owner and then did an MR27 to change the license expiry to a point 7 days in the future, you'd pay 7/365ths of the annual license fees including the ACC levy plus the administration fee.

I've had the numbers from several sources. You could have found them yourself instead of assuming that I hadn't already :)
Page 16 Year 2009. Actual figures for - TYPE OF ROAD USER KILLED AND INJURED YEAR ENDING 31 DECEMBER (http://www.transport.govt.nz/research/Documents/Motor-Vehicle-Crashes-in-New-Zealand-2009.pdf)
Cars: 8017
Passengers: 3370
Above Combined: 11387
Motorcycles: 1369
Other: 1758
Total: 14541
.
Do those motorcycle figures include off road and farmbikes (as well as non registered road bikes)? How do they differentiate?
If so, the figures are misleading (surprise) and just wrong. Off raod dirt bikes and MX have some wicked injuries - more frequently I suspect than road users, especially on a time exposed basis.

I believe that they're on road only so shouldn't include the off-road injuries. The only basis I have for that assumption is that a member here ran some stats for road only and came up with numbers slightly higher than posted above... both used the same datasource, CAS.

we found a fair few off road in an analysis of cc divided accident figures, CAS source, definetely not all off road bikes are in there, ut definetly a number of em are.

If you rock up to the GPs office with a minor injury, how is it recorded. I don't recall being asked beyond the cause in previous cases.
Now if you get an ambo callout to the side of the road, then it is pretty obvious - assuming it is recorded accurately.

July 16%
August 19%
September 23%
October 21%

Had the bike on hold for the last 6 months. Didnt save as much money as I would have liked as I got a parking ticket in town (the one time I went in ). But I figure I still saved $50.
Just put 3 months on and then it will go on hold for another 6 as after that the bike wont be used much as I will be living in town and cycling to uni.

but it's seasonal, that happens every year. Comparing this year with last I can't find any significant difference in the numbers, in fact for the winter months we had less bikes (by percentage) on hold this year.

I did read it to be the percentage increase per month, not the percentage of bikes on hold?

Good idea!
Won't work for me, however, as I ride every day anyway. I guess that means that I'm already getting pretty good value for money.
My beef is not whether or not ACC is good value or whether or not I can afford the levy, it's that there is an inequity with cagers and the stated reason just doesn't hold water.
you think you guys have it bad??
over here the price of a COE(certificate of entitlement)has now reached record levels. It costs more here now just to be entitled to buy a vehicle(including motorcycles)than the cost of a really nice Brand New MOTORCYCLE in New Zealand.
also bikes here are more expensive but relative to cars, cheap as chips.
ENJOY IT!

COE prices soar
Increases in premiums are the biggest in more than 10 years
By Christopher Tan, Senior Correspondent
COE prices of premiums for the '1,600cc and below' category have breached the $40,000 mark. -- ST PHOTO: NG SOR LUAN
CERTIFICATE of entitlement (COE) premiums for cars shot up in the latest tender yesterday.
The bidding frenzy was sparked by fears that quotas would be slashed in February to a 20-year low.
The premiums chalked up their single-biggest increases in more than a decade, with rates for bigger cars rising by more than 30 per cent.
The COE premium for cars of up to 1,600cc ended at $47,604 - $8,604 or 22.1 per cent higher than its rate at the last tender three weeks ago. The premium for cars above 1,600cc soared by 30.5 per cent to $62,502, from $47,890 previously.
For Open COEs, which can be used for any vehicle type but end up being used mainly for bigger cars, the premium was 30.1 per cent or $15,010 higher at $64,900.
The prices are among the highest since the vehicle quota system started in 1990. The last time premiums were this high was back in the 1990s.

I already pay for another bike and a car as well as through my taxes for ACC levies; why the fuck should I have to pay yet again for my 2nd bike?
Wifey is in much the same situation.
Lotsa tin top turkeys out there do more kms per year in their one car than I do in all my vehicles put together; that means I'm expected to pay something like 3x the ACC levies they pay to do less road kms.

If you think you really need a car in a place the size of Hamilton with public transport that makes NZ look piss poor and in a country the size of a small park in many countries; then you SHOULD be paying extra to run it.
I lived in Singapore and did have to have a car as I regularly had to travel around the Island to see my clients in places where taking public transport would have meant only seeing 2 or 3 clients a day.
I bought a Mitsi Mirage back then new. It was the mid Eighties and in NZ that car would have been about $20k. In SDingapore it was about $70k including having to pay $7k to take an old car off the road.
Many of my friends and associates who didn't see the sense in having a car on the Island, bought and stored their car in Johor Bahru where they could actually make use of it.
I don't think comparisons between Singapore and NZ are all that relevant. The congestion of having millions of people in a country the size of Lake Taupo (smaller?) and the concentration of pollution etc are matters that make a huge difference between the two countries.
BTW: Do they still have someone going through all the magazines with a black felt tip pen blacking out all nipples, twat, penis and pubic hair? Do they still lock up the media if it criticises the government?

actually, i like that one

as for not travelling alone; close but no cigar
you were fined for travelling into the CBD if the car only had one person (cops on every entry into the city taking numbers etc)
if you had a special licence or multiple bodies in the car it was OK
I lived just behind the Mandarin Hotel and worked in the Shaw Ctr on the cnr of Orchard and Scott; I walked to work and only took the car when I had to get away from the CBD

Your vehicle will be tracked electronically. So will you and you passengers with facial recognition software and simple systems like following your cellphone.
Your tickets will be automatic, no need to bother a policeman.
So, while I can, I wont pay the fee. So far I'm thousands up. They will get me one day.
When the system is good enough, I will have to pay.

Amen to that. Even when it is good enough, we will find other ways to get around it and make compromises.
From my calculations I am nearly $1500 dollars up which I am quite happy about. Also, I'm way down on speeding fines now due to being much more restraintful, aware of traffic Police/cameras and choosing areas to speed.
It's only illegal if you get caught.

i think even with the raping we are getting from vehicle licensing costs, you have to see the positive side of things.
running the bikes without a rego im finding myself with more money in pocket due to increased awareness and attention when on the road. looking out for the boys in blue and generally feeling much trepidation in the town/city areas has definitely led to a decrease in speeding fines and possibility of having an accident. a side effect of this all is increased respect from road users.
its keeping my skin and money where it rightfully belongs.

Morally corrupt to take someone elses life. Sure keep them in prison for the rest of their lives. And not the type of prisons we have, should be a big pit that gets a toss of rotten scraps of food that supermarkets constantly throw out.
Killing them is just... a sick thought. Though I guess some people think it's ok to take someones life, guess that's why murderers exist in the first place.
