Can't believe how ignorant and just plain downright dumb this is! I realise that it will never happen but FFS! Children, just say no to drugs! I am sure this is the main reason behind it, well let's face it, reason isn't!

bwahahahahahaha, you know what else would restore financial equity to the region, stopping whinging and getting jobs, if there ain't job opportunities create them! or just turn the region into a ghostown by taxing the fuck out of anyone who has money (see "works for a living").

Don't get the wrong idea. Thet're proposing EVERYONE in the region pays it so it is an inclusive idea.
I'm sure the funding would also be used to benefit EVERYBODY.
Oh fuck it! Lets blame EVERYONE but ourselves and just legalise theft.

Lol just read the same thing online . I thought the prison at Ngawha was our contribution to the Ngapuhi.... they should have just put a big fence round Kaikohe and saved a lot of tax payers money.

Hey, its about equity. You take Christmas off? You go away at Easter? They're religious holidays. This is religious. Whats the difference? (apart from theres no days off for taniwhas ....... yet).
If you let one stupid, pointless ignorant religion in (which obviously we have) then you have to let them all in. Ive gone with pastafarianism. Ive been touched with the noodly appendage.

The wonders of living in ONE country ... not. By the time the Great Treaty Gravy Train stops there'll be nothing left worth living in NZ for.

I think I have developed a fair compromise:
I will pay 6% GST, and Northlanders and Ngapuhi can pay 15%. Naturally they get to keep that additional 9% in Norfland to spend at the discretion of the iwi.

Can the locals pay the equivalent amount in pot?
Payments made every Thurs night in the Kaikohe Pub car park. Honk horn and raise eyebrows twice.

Well I'm glad that its a "non-negotiable element of any settlement " because that just wrecked any chance of ANY settlement.
What amazes me, is just how grim-serious they are with their demands. It would funny if it wasn't so wrong.

and that's the crux of it. the cash society up there would not be affected - they're not paying tax anyway. it would only affect people who are actually working. i would think the average wage in northland is not that high anyway, so 9% extra would not really pay anything. the council should just start 'taxing' the multi million $$ drug trade...

This guy sounds like that one who was at the ACC protest meet in the square when we were handing out flyers. He reckoned we(bikers)should pay for our crashes, but couldn't see the reasoning when we said same with rugby, league players etc who were maori or islanders or kiwis should also pay as they have taken a fair bit of ACC funds with injuries but paid no levies for sport, and the women who were given the bash etc by their warrior partners.

going...going....gone. by non negotiable, i think they want it to mean that once it has been agreed to, it can never be used by the crown for re-negotiations in the future. ie/ setting it in concrete for all of time.
why don't we close all TABs, casinos and pokie joints, pubs, fish and chips, KFC, warehouse, and $2 shops til they leave for OZ?.

sound like a bloody fantastic idea to me.. never go to any of them...
heard something on the radio today about "them" bitching about the seabed again because they are the original and rightful inhabitants in NZ........
they are also happy to share it with the fellow "white" man with a minor tax... LIKE WTF
i believe we dont tax them exclusively for using the sea? also i think they want ownership of airspace as well, did you know maoris invented aircraft but hid them all when the Europeans arived
What does that mean? Will it cost to register an iwi? 6 months/ 12 months?

well they will be beating all of us off with a stick, I'm now claiming my 1/130293826738372638398375th maori, as we all came from the same ancestor(s).
also I shall be relocating my ass to an area where these special tax rates apply, and my new career shall be burgling and car theft, I shall also demand WINZ benefits. Then I shall join destiny church who will provide me with all the free advice on how to claim as much as possible from my benefit entitlements. Then they will take 10%.

I went to school with this guys father and uncle in Kaikohe on the 1940's.
They were close friends and I spent allot of time at their home.
My first ride on a motorbike was on his grandfathers 1930's Harley Davidson
with foot clutch and hand gear change.
His great grandfather was a famous and effective politician called Hone Heke Rankin.
He is descended from Hone Hekes brother but claims to be descended from Hone Heke
who only had two children by his first wife and they both died young.
Heke considered my great great grandfather as his Pakeha and helped our family by getting
the Maoris in Kaikohe to grow wheat for our mill at Waimate North and protecting us from the
rogue Maoris during the flagpole war. I have many tales to tell about him.
Daniels father Graham was a highly respected Maori elder in Kaikohe and his Uncle Taru became a
prominent educator and teacher of teachers.
Daniel has come up with many other way out ideas which the newspapers focus on as they
stir up people and sell papers just like his present statement
.
He may come from chiefly family but chiefs are not followed just because they have "blue blood"
they have to earn the respect of their contemporares. I don't think this chief will have many followers
among the sensible Maoris who are a large silent majority. We only hear about the bad ones
and the cranks.

"Northland Maori are pushing for a special economic development tax, as part of their Treaty settlement."
We allready pay for this, it's call the dole.
It amazing how they cry about "spritul & cultural rights" but as soon as they get some money all is forgotten about until that lot runs out and they go on about something else, like at the moment its these heads from France.
Fuckers traded them in the first place, how spritul is that. Go on have your shit back but pay us for the beads, blankets and muskeets that you got, should come somewhere in the region of 1000 billon dollars.
