haha yeah thats prob no use. the reason im lookin is i rodee a mates 06 kx125 at the weekend. something is seriously wrong with my cr125 as it is like riding a 50cc scooter compared to his kx. i've wonderd why i had no bottom end, but everyone said it was just cause its a 125. wasnt till i rode another 125 that i realised how bad it was. we had the pipe off and the cylinder looks in mint condition, piston looks good an compression feels ok (need to check this though), but the powervalve looks like it may not be set up in the right place, as when its fully open you can see a gap above it. the bike feels like its completly choked off the bottom end, and then the powerband hits like a bullet, not very linear like the kx was.

also, the pilot in it is a 32.5, and the factory pilot is a 50 so that seems like its way out of spec. (all other carb parts are pretty close - i.e. main is 350 and factory is 360)

iv ridden 4 cr125's from 02-07 and they were all like that, absolutely nothing on the bottom - to the point of having to feather the clutch to start.

check your reeds though, if they have a gap it has a big effect on bottom end power

yeah ive had a look at the reeds, no gaps - petals look pretty new and sitting very well. the KX125 felt like a (slightly) less powerful 250 2 stroke (in terms of throttle response and feel) whereas my bike is completly different. is this just a honda thing? maybe i need to look at another brand then because i found the kx to be much more fun to ride

bought the manual - awesome for $7 US. i think im missing a pin on the powervalve - might be causing it to act at the wrong time/over the wrong range - will check this out!

def. check out the powervalve pin, but i have ridden a '02 cr and a '98kx 125 and the kx def. has much more bottom end, as does my 01 rm125.
All the crs i have ridden have been pretty clapped out though

i got a 98 CR125, is same as the 99, so probly not to different from your 01. I had issues with the power valves, I'm in palmy to so could come take a look if you want, or ride to see whether its up to spec ;)

yeah that would be a good idea - i'll message you once i rebuild the clutch (that went at the start of a ride on sunday!) guess i was lucky it was at the start of the ride, and not 20km out in the middle of nowhere!

so is the common concensus that the CR125's, even when running well, have a significantly weaker bottom end that other 125's? if so, i'll probably be looking at selling mine, as my riding skills at the moment are more suited to the bottom 1/4 of the power range rather than the top 1/4!

would you reckon the suzuki or kawasaki has more bottom end? (did they make the 2 stroke 125's together at any point, like they did some of their other bikes?)

all good, thats why you're sposed to go to a track, never far to push it that way

if you got a two stroke, your skills must suit the top 1/4 of the range, otherwise its a waste! and nah I wouldn't say it's too lacking in lower range (once I fixed my powervalves), just the typical two stroke low end deficiency, mine will still pop big wheelies before powerband coming out of corners or going up hills without trying at all.

yeah, thats what riding the KX was like, lots of power without getting thrown off in the powerband. looking at that manual, if I assume my ignition timing is good, most of the trouble shooting points to the powervalve so i will definately have to have a good look at that. will be interesting to see what its like after!

is it the setup where there are two slides (one each side of exhaust port) that slide outwards at high revs? each side activated by a spiral gear?

na, there are two flaps, which rotate upwards at higher revs.

hmmm, yeh just had a look at the fiche files for it, never seen that system before, but one assumes since its newer than mine, it works as good if not better

if it is installed correctly... i didnt have the manual when i was looking at it the other day but it didnt seem to close properly and when it opened there was a gap above it which seemed odd, but i cant quite recall so will have to have another good look. there doesnt seem to be a lot of adjustment (if any) in them though, but i was thinking that maybe the flaps were installed upside down?
