I have all the details of a guy who likes to tailgate bikers at night with his main, full, and fog lights on. He lives in Glenfield.

Who wants them?

Ensure he's alone (don't want to be out numbered now....), pull over and invite him to do the same. After discussing with him what an arsehole he truely is, knock him out!......if he's done it before, he's obviously got an attitude problem against bikers, and as such, that attitude needs adjusting!.

I had my car done over three times within 2 weeks (ie) windows
smashed, goods stolen out of it mirrors broken off - it happened
about 13 years ago now.

It was my car alright (registered to me etc) - but I used to let
my loser boyfreind drive it at the time.
the car was a target of violent attacks - it ended up having to be fingerprinted by the police after the 3rd attack.

Only I was the innocent car owner - He was just the dalk that
obviously did something in it that people didn't like- and people
thought it was me perhaps

It would'nt surprise me if the car belongs to someones dad, brother or mate even........and the real culpret brings trouble on innocent people

Grow up , I don't see any reason for doing this other than spite . We all have issues with car drivers from time to time and vice versa. If you have a problem with someone like this , move over and let them pass (It's not that hard !). If you still have an issue , then do the police thing .However , naming the driver / address / owner on a public BBS including telephone number and suggesting the community do whatever is childish. Move on and grow up !. Suggest you edit your post and remove this persons details.

Police aren't going to be interested. And the tosser's not going to be interested in passing. Slowing down and stopping is probably inviting an attack.

Name and shame seems pretty fair to me.

Similar thing happened to us years ago one night. Guy actually turned around to follow close up behind us so I ducked left and braked and watched him as he shot past. Fortunately a mufti cop saw it all so chased and caught him. The guy was done for EBA and lost his license for 6 months.

I am curious to where this happened? and at what speed?... With the little info posted and a witchhunt off the bat.......it may have been a 250cc bike holding up traffic in the fast lane, would that be reason enough to tailgate?,No... even so,the "full" story may change the plot.

HDTboy
26th May 2005, 23:43
My side of the story is as follows

Was riding home at 2030ish in a residential area last night when i notice this guy behind me, fair enough. I sped up a bit to put some distance between me and him, so this guy speeds up too and lights up like a christmas tree. I took a few turn offs and he stayed right on my date. At that point i decided that was enough and pulled over to let him pass.
I memorised his plate and obtained his details quite legally, and have never heard of him before
If there is a problem with them being posted on here I can remove them

I thought I'd let y'all know so you can use this information as you wish

complaints dont do shit unless the cop sees the act take place, if your are on a bike you dont have much choice but to pull over, in a car just ring 111 if yo uwant anythign to be done about the issue. Otherwise you willl have to go to court to get any results and your chances are minimal
only thing that is for sure is that you will waste your time

Vehicle registration details are public information. You used to just go to the Post office with the registration number and pay $2 or so, presume you still can? Or you could get a VIR report (http://www.vir.co.nz/reference/924752d5) based on the registration number. Once you have name and address you can use the Whitepages (http://www.whitepages.co.nz/) to search for a phone number.

Probably dangerous driving..... They even think that wheelie-ing a VFR750 down pit street on a friday night is dangerous - but they still let me off that one cause I didnt run... :) Just told me to do that sort of thing out of town, I said yes sir and lesson learnt... Look for cop cars sitting at the lights before hoisting the front wheel. :ride:

by any member of the sworn police that would care to see if this guy does what is claimed (let's face it... it's hearsay and conjecture at the moment... nothing to really prosecute or persecute someone with).

No offence HD - I believe you but it won't really stack up "Your Honour - a guy on a website said..."

If one of the boys/girls in BLUE happened to get first hand experience it'd be better... and I'm willing to assist in that process.

Serious offer - those in the constabulary are welcome to PM me.

It'd be a great way to teach him a lesson...

lemme see... he annoys you, you annoy him - you're on 180 kgs of bike he's in 1800 kgs of car

you can fall off, he cant...

Why does this smack of my kids fighting.

Yes escalate it -but do it properly people...don't put yourselves (or the rest of the riding community) at risk by annoying someone that is already clearly reckless and stupid.

Yea but your point is also very valid - when we ride a bike we have to realise that whatever we do will be repayed two fold, thats why if you have a close encounter its often better to just forget it and concentrate on riding - I have noticed they like doing it to me in the wet so I tap the rear brake on slightly (just to get the brake light to go on) and they get a hell of a fright and lock up (if your lucky) - Thats all I do, but I do hope that the guy in question doesnt cause trouble for anyone in the near future, its dangerous enough without cagers TRYING to hit you :(

Yes they should not tailgate.
But do not let the red mist come down. Once it does you are not concentrating anymore and you could end up getting hurt.

If I am being tailgated, i try a quick burst, if that dosent work, I stand up and give my arse a good scratch. If that dosent work, i try the quick burst or a few weaves, gentrally unexpected behaviour.

All else fails pull over and let them go on their own merry way to their grave.

Tossers like this really piss me off. I also love the ones who think that because you are about 300m in front of them, it's okay for them to drive with their lights on full.

I had a guy in Blenheim do this to me along one of the country roads. His lights were lighting up the inside of my car like a spotlight so after about five minutes of being pissed off, I pulled over, did a u-turn and drove back towards him with MY lights on full. He quickly dipped his then, but I drove all the way until I passed him, did another u-turn and sat behind him with my lights on full all the way into town. Hope he learned his lesson!

As for reporting them, don't bother. We were heading to Wellington from Levin one day and at about 4.30pm this tosser in an old Merc decided to overtake everything in his path. Peak hour traffic flows and he was going out on double yellow lines then forcing his way back in where there was no gap to start with. He overtook us, then slowed to 90km so we overtook him in passing lanes at Te Horo. He wasn't impressed and on the next blind corner, he pulled out and overtook us again. I rang *555 and was still on hold when we got to Paraparaumu. In this time he had pulled out on double yellow lines in the face on traffic in oncoming passing lanes - all of them were flashing their lights but in the end they had to pull back into the inside lane to avoid hitting him head-on. His behaviour was some of the worst I had ever witnessed, so I stayed on the line to report him. Despite all his overtaking, we were three cars behind him at the lights in Paraparaumu and when he turned off towards the beach, I told my husband to drive around to the police station and we could report it in person. My *555 call had still not been answered. The cop on duty took the details and went away to check on the car. He came back to say that the car was registered to an address in Hamilton and the driver, who lived in Paraparaumu (how he knew this I have no idea!) was wanted in connection with an outstanding warrant - but he said he couldn't tell me what for. I said I was fully prepared to go to court if the case went that far, and so was my husband. Weeks later I got a letter saying the driver had been spoken to, slapped on the wrist with a wet bus ticket and had promised never to misbehave again. Yeah right, complete waste of my time. If the cop who was sitting at the end of the passing lanes at Waikanae had witnessed his behaviour, he would have been done for dangerous driving, but because a member of the public complained, nothing gets done. I realise they have to balance the word of someone who may or may not have an agenda for complaining to the police about someone else's driving behaviour, but if someone is prepared to stand up in court, I think a letter to the offender is way too lenient. Apparently I wasn't the only one to complain either, so surely this is enough to act?

Makes the tailgating car think WTF is this idiot doing? I don't want to be too close to him when he crashes.

I'd say with 18 years of riding it's happened more than a couple of times. My wife was nearly put in hospital after an accident because of a tailgater and you don't see her publicly listing the guys name and address or myself visiting him AND HIS FAMILY to sort things out . HDTboy does have a right to get upset and did the right thing by pulling over , I just don't agree with the rest.
Of course , all of us "motorcyclist" would never tailgate eh :wait: and this would never happen on a kiwiBiker ride .
