I dont think anyone would blame you - its the first ktm EVER with up-to-date technology. well by up to date i mean current - it did still take them couple of years to figure out that EFI might not be such a silly idea!

Today you have made a step forward, 2-strokes are out dated junk.
in all seriouslness what did you think of the efi, haven't ridden one yet but might be keen on one of those 2010 rmz250's if I liked it

the efi is an experience in itsself, the throttle was so light, and the power was everywere, on tap when you wanted it. as a die hard 2stroke fan i really was suprised at how much fun and how easy it was to ride.

yea on the first couple of laps i did stall it alot, and i had to get used to the engine braking, i was really surprised at how manageable it was in the shitty conditions

oh and anodize the rims black.. dunno why they went with silver. 1/4 of the package is missing!

Yeah, I missed all the enduro's this season ( all work & no play ), the 350sxf is kinda shaping up to be a real weapon for 2011 I have to say, though there are interesting rumblings out of Husky & I do like the txc, still can't get everything out of the 250 mind you, but kinda want to beat my mate & he's making load 350sxf noises, be ok if it was going to be a handful, but if it'll work in the bush & be a mx weapon, pretty nice combo for NZ conditions.
Be curious if the 350sxf was a headshaker like the 250EXC-F's.

I had a short blat on the 350 today, and it was pretty good, probably because its not like any KTM iv ever ridden, but I did notice it didn't like going slow, required a bit (read:more than some) of clutch work, which is pretty heavy, even by ktm standards. And I thought the throttle was too light, got arm pump trying to hold the damn throttle still. Suspension worked well, seeing as its a mx bike and I weigh sfa, soaked up trail rubbish well(for a mx bike)

As a 2smoke supporter and I'm just saying if industry put as much energy developing them as they have into 4strokes we'd see a bit more advance!
But that said, I like the direction they took with the smaller engine and therefore lighter chassis and power to weight ratio with the 350! Smart guys them. I have repeatedly said on thread after thread the 4 delivers power better than the 2smoker and therefore gives faster lap times. My bike at the moment suits my riding experience, my mechanical knowledge, therefore my budget, so all good there. I'll stick with the smoker till I see what comes out of the mix in 2012 when they are supposed be bringing new stuff to the 2stroke range. If its nothing great I might have to post an "I'm sorry" thread LOL!!
If there is major development happening they probably have already planned the strategic marketing for the 350 to be the sensation this year and whatever comes out in 2012 to the sensation for then!
But I'm interested to know how light it felt compared to the 300?
Could you fell the difference because they went to the linkage?
I imagine power would be much more linear compared to the 300, was it?
As an MX bike was it snappy or did it have puttputt type torque like an exc?
And is it $14K or more??
I bet they'll sell like hot cakes and I hope they have made them reliable and long lasting, New model out no one knows yet?
And put the deposit on so I can have a ride please!! I bet its a bloody nice bike!!!
Very jealous I am!

it did feel lighter than the 300, but i think they are the same weight (104kg dry) maybe its just to do with the centre of gravity?
it was snappy but it was also incredibly smooth, much more linear than my 300, noticeably so in the higher rev ranges, i didn't really notice the linkage until i went to hop over a log and it got snagged lol, i think i need to test it on an mx track with acceleration and braking bumps and some wooooooooops too. at this stage i dont think there is a set price, the guy im buying it from is pretty sure they will be $13,995,

Foo - 350's out already? That was quick, but enduro version maybe not far off. Why not wait a bit?
Question: Pretty sure Cairoli's bike has leccy-leg, does production model have it?
Been a few bits about Tye Simmons 350 in ADB mag recently - but KTM wouldn't let anyone else ride it. Claimed about 12Kgs lighter than a 450 - wot, how can this be?
TBH I think part of reason I went 2-stroke was weak attempt to reconnect with my youth. Back in the day, it was real simple - if you wanted a serious dirt bike you bought a 2 stroke. Things have changed, but very glad we still have a (limited) choice. Bloody shame the Japanese gave up on 2T.

according to the US sites it is only just lighter than the YZF and KXF450, and heavier than the CRF450,

And thats the fun of them.... and the reason they are so fast. I loved my 450 for the same reasons you do but its much easier to go faster for longer on the 250. If that means I rebuild at 50 hours instead of 75, so be it!
Very very interested to see what the 350's like. I've always said it would be the perfect size.

yeah i'd be checking the welding meticulously! A colleague of mine once traveled to china to look at some stainless steel vessels we were getting made over there (it was a very shit company i was working for at the time BTW), but the bloody chinese had no gear, and were literally making 10000L stainless tanks by hand - there were photos of them rolling the steel with a few guys by hand, another of a guy working some metal using a car tyre as his bench, and other photos of about 50 people working on the one tank, and to top it off the factory looked about as flash as a chicken house!

Well mate I wouldn't think it would take a genius to work out that when you have to replace a hydralic clutch setup compared to replacing a cable setup, it tends to cost you a bit more.

Every bike has it's pros and cons, you needed to be more clear on the clutch that is not ktm specific, my husky has a hydraulic one to and I reckon the cost of a hydraulic clutch is a worthwhile trade. Mind you ktm not selling bushes for the 300 estart was a bit on the rough ( I believe they are now ).
The sxf sounds a very cool bike, no one i know up here has one yet that I know anyway :(, though I did hear they are capable of going swimming and coming back to life after normal surgery ( it was full submersion ).

Huh? When does the hydraulic clutch ever go?
I tell you what I've had every flavour of bike and I'm never riding anything else. The last YZ250 I had cost me over $2500 worth of maintenance in one go. Linkages/forkseals. Can't even remember the list that went wrong.
The last 2 KTM's have been fantastic, only thing that ever went was the forkseals. And no, they don't cost any more than the japanese bikes for parts. ( Unless you're talking about a 1995 EXC, explains itself. )

That'd be the one, we were wandering around the farm on Sunday & Mike got us all to jump over that water hole :), oddly enough I managed it successfully, though damned if I know how I bruised the tops of both my feet.

Sigh. How often do you break a hydraulic clutch? Hardly ever. I've done it once when I endo'd big time. Job cost me less than $100 for a new hose and labour.
You cant back up anything by saying it'll cost you body parts for KTM replacements... Bad call. Especially late model KTMs. -_-

i have to agree, certain yamaha parts cost an absolute shitload, more than ktm
for example, over $100 for one pipe mount. $160 for one tiny powervalve piece, wouldnt have been more than 1cm2. Thankfully the expensive shit doesnt break much.

I think he said he broke where the banjo bolt goes into the reservoir and the quote for replacement was ~ $700. If that's not expensive in your world...

Though I hope you have some spare body parts to sell when you have to pay for parts for it. Someone I know has recently discovered that with his ktm.

A Suzuki rubber exhaust joiner cost $80, therefore, every single part for Suzukis are expensive and overpriced, did I mention poorly made aswell?

What I know is a piece of the hydralic clutch setup got broken (I think as descibed above) and the KTM geuinequote for replacement is ~ $700. Magura were about half that but compared to $57 for a clutch cable for a suzi, $30 for a honda, $55 for a kawi(all on B4B), it's quite a lot.
Maybe not well informed but it's definitely not baseless.

08 450 SX-F. If you happen to know where to find good clutch parts that are a bit cheaper I'm all ears.

Well i'm new to KTM and the only part i've bought was a Master Cylinder rebuild kit, that was $60 when i got one for my KXF it was about $30,i was a bit miffed at first but i'll tell you what, i know which brakes i'd rather be pulling on going down a steep slippery hill.......Brembo for sure,so i soon forgot about 60 bucks

Well that's some cheeky dealer charging him that. Like I said, cost me $100 including labour for my 09 250EXC.

My guess is that it is an important part of the master cylinder that is broken and that the given quote was to replace the whole assembly. I'm sorry Vazza but there's a large price difference between replacing a Magura cable and replacing the whole Magura assembly.
Just my 2c.

We have a 06 sxf that came with a broken clutch perch, being hydrolic it did cost us a fair bit more. Having said that it's a trade off as hydrolic clutchs are nicer to use.
It is worth noting that altough ktm genuine parts are priced similar to jappas, they do sometimes have a lack of aftermarket parts listed compared to jappas. which in turn means (sometimes) you may pay more...may. This is what Barty5 is normally on about, as he orders parts for lots of different bikes.
Back to the point, what about this 350??? What are the pros and cons to your old bike? I reckon the 350exc is going to be a huge seller.

I'd have to agree, it's likely the master cylinder itself that was busted. Which sucks.
But who cares? We've all got a similar thing on the other side of the bar and it's not something ya commonly hear of getting munted. One unfortunate experience I'd say.
Not at all a KTM fan myself, but I would mind getting myself one of those fancy hydro clutches.... (Or one of those fancy 350's  )

i have to agree, certain yamaha parts cost an absolute shitload, more than ktm
for example, over $100 for one pipe mount. $160 for one tiny powervalve piece, wouldnt have been more than 1cm2. Thankfully the expensive shit doesnt break much.
if ya want cheap genuine parts, get a suzuki.
Had an RM250 in here a few weeks ago that someone else had been at and over torqued everything, triple clamp bolts, damping rods. When I went to reassemble the forks one of the damping rods snapped at the lock bolt before I even started to get any load on it. Shame it didn't snap as I pulled it apart.
Fortunately for the customer I had another RM250 here of my own which I stripped down to replace the part. However Suzuki want $660.00 US for a replacement damping rod! I'm wearing the cost on that and trying to source a cheaper Honda one, still about $250.00 US which will need machining and more $ to work. Didn't make any money that week.

You can find 'expensive parts' stories about any bike, like me paying $180 for genuine Suzuki fork seals after the 3rd set of after market ones crapped out in as many months... then discovering the 'official' ones were NOK and I could get them for US$4.50 off ebay. It'[s about homework...
Regardless, this kind of KTM-bashing has been done to death and is, quite frankly, retarded. Yeah, yeah I know, I've got one now, so I'm going to be defensive, but I've KTM-bashed as much as anyone on here and I know I was being a retard.
Awesome bike though...

$180 for fork seals???! genuine for my rm125 were 32 a side, which i didnt want to pay either, just got cheapys, they are fine
seems certain stuff is cheap then - for instance a clutch push rod cost $8

This is my point about doing your homework and not just letting the local dealer bend you over. I paid $180 because I was sick of rebuilding my forks... and found out soon after that I didn't need to pay anything like that. But I have only myself to blame, because I didn't do my homework.
So in other words, if some wankstain tries to tell you a banjo bolt is $700, go find out where else you can get it from, i.e. ebay, hydraulic specialists, brake specialists... if you pay $700 for a banjo bolt, you only make it ok for certain dealers to continue to rip us off.
