I bought an '87 SRX 250 last year with 1,485 miles on it from the original owner. The bike is very clean. The bike sat for a long time & the previous owner had the carb(s) cleaned by a shop before I bought it. The bike starts right up. It runs well, but it takes a long time to warm up before I can turn the choke off (while riding). It will idle fine not too long after start up without the choke, but it runs better with the choke on for 15-20 minutes until it gets good & warmed up. This is a US bike & I'm wondering if they were jetted lean from the factory for emissions. I have put about 500 miles on it. The bike pulls pretty well, but there seems to be a bit of a flat spot @ 4,800 rpm. The bike has the stock exhaust & air filter.
I have read where people have drilled out the jet with a 3/64 drill. I assume they are talking about the pilot jet in the primary carb. I was just wondering if anyone out there has tried this, has rejetted this bike,or has any other suggestions re this issue. I think this is a gem of a bike.Thanks.
