Hi all,
Been away for the last 7,8 months..come back and I want a bike! Especially looking for something cheapish (would prefer under 2k) and really good on gas. would prefer not to go below 250cc and not above 600cc (Don't have full licence yet but could sit it if I get off my butt and do a defensive driving).
So far have been looking at cb250s, gs500s, gb400s. Going to go see if I can have a ride on a fxr150 though I'm not keen on the lack of ccs!
Please help me find a bike! Its been too long!

wat kinda bike you after man? there are a few on trademe that might do the trick, high ish k's or not perfect but might last if you look after em. i.e buy one for 2k then pay the extra 500 you might have for a service or whatever it needs.

Yeah seen a few scorpios and fxrs on there...I'm a little hesitant on those - the fxr because of the low ccs...I think they have half the power of even my old cbx250rs...and the scorpios because I've head they rust really easily?
Though I would like a single or twin cylinder bike...cheap on gas...like a cb250 or kawasaki twin
I will also be able to get my full in about 2 or 3 weeks, which would open up something like the gs500, gb400/500....

depends what your wanting it for, if u needa go 100 often enough then that will rule out quite a few single cylinders. the scorpio will go 100. but not enough left to overtake i would guess. zzr250 could be the way to go, v twin i think and pretty economical from what i think i know...
and not ssure bout the rust issue, havnt heard of that on those. know it happens abit on the exhaust of the newer gn250's

If you want a 250 now, i'd recommend one of the old GPXs. Solid engines, good torque (parallel twin engine) and enough top end to keep you ahead of most cages on the road. FXRs are a fun first bike, but you'll soon get bored of it.
But I'd wait a few weeks, get your full and you'll be able to pick up an older 400 for that kind of price - GB400s are great bikes, not a lot of top end though. GS500 would suit you but I've heard the torque curve is pretty flat and can get boring... great commuters though.

if you are after a little bit of a project i am about to put up a GB400tt for sale, its a runner but rego is lapsed and in need of re-registering, has new starter brushes, new brake caliper kit fitted and a new battery, starts and runs sweet but could need a carb rebuild due sitting for so long, probably need a front brake disc grind to pass brake inspection.
By no means a minter, $850 ono

not sure if this is the right thread for that quesition, i.e not many people will be able to view it and potentially help you.
personally i would want to know if the bike is currently licensed and has a current wof, as it might be able to re register a previously crashed vehicle etc. might needa pursue that 1st. not 100% though

Yeah thats true...what do people reckon about this (http://www.sella.co.nz/motoring/motorcycles-scooters/motorbikes/sports/616qqt/) ? Though I had a quick email to george the mc doctor and he's pretty keen on the gb400 one, and not so keen on the cb250 haha.

Have just posted my VTZ 250.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=298277244&ed=true
Will drop it for less than asking as long as it's reasonable. Got a WoF two days ago.
$20 gets me just over 300km(including racing off the lights) and a top speed of 175. V-twin.
Getting a new Aquila as soon as this sells as it's been killing my back riding down to Wellington, hence the sale(I don't like to stop when it's not for petrol, gets me down there in about 6 hours).

get a Honda Gb400 or 500, they go forever, rain or shine , usually a couple on trademe at any given time.
it seems people are either willing to fork out close to 10k for a brand new 250 or they are looking for a shitter for dirt cheap. i am NEVER going to sell my not-new-not-old 2008 250 at this rate!!!

I believe you're 'type' if there is one, trades in their bike to the shop they bought it at for the next new thing :-)

Any chance it's an Aquila?

A shame, have six and a half to blow on one and wouldn't mind a slightly not new one(08-09) if I can get the full dress as well within budget(rode 120km/h in heavy wind on the tester and Christ, sitting upright really blasts you). If anyone happens to read this thread who wants to sell, heh.
