wow, well i sold a 97 gsx600f in the uk for 1000 GBP before i left there 4 years ago, like 2,500 nzd. that was a good price for it there. used bikes here are VERY expensive. good news for the sellers, but bad for buyers.
And yeah, this guy is dreaming. the bike is only worth top book price if it is immaculate, all polished shiny, full history all warranted n rego. even then , its probably only a third of what hes asking for it........10 yr old r1 and fireblades go for around 1500 - 2000quid in UK, like 3-4 K NZD max.
i wish id brought my bike with me just to sell it here!
ah well

Trademe has caused a rise in everything second hand - as you say, good for the sellers. But try to get a bargain on anything from trademe these days and you have half a dozen bidders who have no idea of the true value going at it hammer and tongs. Example: I was looking at a small hobby compressor. They seemed to be going for $150 - $180 on TM - you can buy the same as Supercheap for the same price.

Being into Yankee cages I pay attention to their prices - and there's a shit-load of dreamers out there, I guess that's why one year later the ad is still running. (Full of words like 'awsome' 'sweet' 'looks great' 'not many around in this condition' 'make great project' 'would not take much to finish' (pfft!)

He may be dreaming now,but in time the price will be vindicated.Reminds me of back in the late '70's,when the ''pre baby boomers'', guys who had bought and ridden the bikes of the '50's and '60's new reached retirement, and decided to restore the bikes of their youth. As a baby boomer who was riding those bikes because they were cheap and parts plentiful,my cheap fun time came to an end,as the prices of parts was on a vertical climb. As the bikes of the '80's become classics, the same thing will happen....

spot on. I got a citizen watch on tardme a year ago, google value 700$ brand new. i got it for 60$. i had to put about 4 hours of watch monitoring in, and had to buy it at 2am, when the auction expired. its just not possible to even get those deals anymore.
too many tards, or possibly phishing bidders on there. not to mention the legal traders, I saw one motorcycle shop, that goes by its company trade name on tardme, complaining about a seller because they thought he was gonna pull the auction, screwing them out of a very cheap bike, that they would sell on their shop floor for a good 400% profit, at least!.
i wish tardme would separate private sellers, from traders as I'm sick of scrolling through 100's of pages of people selling the same thing at the same price. eg/ cheap crappy "18k gold plated sports watches" @ $20.
oh yeah, Ive said it before, "If you want to make money on tardme, never buy, only ever sell". This little gem will save you reading the 600 page book at the library "How to be a success on tardme".
I have also bought several secondhand electronic devices on tardme, and despite looking mint, they have all had flaws that take some use to discover. Never, ever buy anything electronic.

I understand this translates to "yeah mate I just topped up the oil, first time I have ever done this and it was one litre down so its all fresh now."

Make money on TardMe?
I think not.
I've been clearing the house of some (good) stuff lately, and it's either failed to sell, or I've had to sell it for really ridiculously low prices. People have no idea of the value of things, and really weird expectations...
I've ended up chucking perfectly good stuff out, after losing money advertising it on TardMe and getting lots of lookers but no bidders.
Buying stuff? Seems to be the opposite. Just bought an espresso machine for a few hundred more than I intended to pay, but at least it's got the same guarantee as a brand new one, and was about $600 cheaper.

Re the RZ 350 - there was a zero miles one sat in the shop in Gore until the shop closed. I heard at the time it went for quite a low figure. It's probably still sitting somewhere still zero miles.
Expectations on trademe are getting out of hand - Lockheed calipers on there the other day, unsold, as reserve is more than it would cost to land new from the UK.
Probably a member here, if so, tough. Price stuff at what the market will pay.

As for tard me, there's still a few deals, but not many, I get most of my stuff off e-bay nowadays...

Wow, I thought that first Suzy GS was a typo til I read the comments in the auction - wow!
Must have been his 1st cousin who was doing the bidding on his behalf lol.
One man's "immaculate" is another man's "tidy".
I've found buying off older sellers - Ulyssians (like m'self) CAN help get a good buy and immaculate bike. One old fella I bought a mint VX800 off, - you could tell my the state of his garage that there was nothng to be worried about - dinner off the floor stuff.
At the other end of the scale 1 Guy who was selling stated in his advert "$900 receipts" (in the day) - the receipts were for petrol, oil, sparkplugs etc etc LOL LOL
I wil also make the effort to travel to look at a remotely located promising buy - many won't..........
At the end of the day "the market decides"
