How many riders out there have genuinely experienced the heart sinking feeling of seeing a Popo fly past you in an oncoming lane, looking at the speedo, seeing that you are well over the speed limit, by say 30km+ p/hr, and then looking in the rear vision mirror to see the Popo turn on the blue and reds guns blazing.......... Your in some twisty twisties, with a junction ahead on a piece of road you know well......... What did you do, and what do you do.....
How many of you have honestly Gapped it? and how many have been successful or failed. I am certain there are some who will give the frilly response of, "I always abide to the law and wouldn't dream of doing such....... however, we are all human, and we all get tempted, and regardless of all the perfectness out there...... everyone breaks the law sometime.
Prob been posted before, but after today, I just feel the need for fresh revelations lol.... No implication or judging, just general interest. I did something I didn't think I would ever do lol, and pulled it off with no implications as yet lol...... no helicopter overhead or armed popo at my door at least anyway, for now.

I did feel guilty a bit for gapping it so to speak, though, the adrenalin at the time was surpassing of any sensation I have felt before. Afterwards all I could think about was really the consequences of such actions when caught/ if caught. Most likely the consequences would be 10 times worse than the original ticket........ Anyway, keen to hear some revelations of others. No need for mindless slander, I am sure we have all made some bad choices at points.
If someone has a negative perspective, or judgmental one, perhaps they could offer some enlightenment on how they got revelation lol......

yes, they did it to me when I was only doing 15 over the limit!...... allegedly. Not worth it to run. no ticket is worth the risk of killing yourself or putting other motorists at risk for. Just pull over and take it on the chin. If you dont want a ticket, don't speed..... and hold up everyone else behind you.

Well I have certainly fantasised about doing this but not on my bike and not without a sharp increase in my riding skills. To be honest I think the fear of losing my licence and having my bike impounded outweigh the adrenaline blast and the joy of living out that movie fantasy. I remember seeing someone on a VFR doing a runner from the cops when I was 14, lots of smiles all round and really I don't think anyone was hoping the cop would catch them. A memory that came back with a flash when I watched some of that guy Ghostrider (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGih162HIIw) on youtube.

Read your first post and thought ... Gee.. Never done that .. have thought about it ........................ But I have .....
I did try evasive techniques in the past. Only the once tho and things didnt go well.
36 years ago, after dark, I preformed a manoeuvre that attracted the interest of a passing plod.
I shot through as to and figured if I took a left into a side street would be to my advantage...
Imagine my surprise when after some hard breaking my rear wheel passed me and I unceremoniously crashed after doing a turning stoppie.
Obviously not quite perfected :(
This resulted in a rather easy catch for plod ... but I thankfully I was not rewarded with hand cuffs and a night in the cell.
My list of errors are many ...
The biggest error, for me, was to think I could get away with it !! Obviously too much adrenaline in the right hand both ways.
I havent tried it again .. and would try and minimise behavior that would attract plod interest

One needs to distinguish between a runner - racking it when the blues and reds are directly behind, no way to argue you didn't know he was there or was chasing someone else ; and a dodger - dive down a side street, round the back of the commercial units, through the alley , etc , out of sight before he can turn round and catch you up.
I hear tell there is a youngster up this way that has managed to avoid plod in a very spectacular way once upon a time. He trusted his balls and went for a big "get fucked" tear away ride. That was 3 or 4 or so years ago now, never seen him on a bike since.
He knew that plod were chasing him, you obviously did not or else you would have stopped.

That's the trick to it, getting out of sight before "I didn't realise it was me you were after" becomes entirely implausible.
It is , in fact, not a ridiculous argument. I have on several occasions been tootling along , not speeding because I never speed , speed kills (this I know, for the government tells me so), but perhaps a little confused about units of measure (so hard to keep them straight now we have all these confusing kilomegjublees and such). And seen and heard lights and siren coming up from behind ; or seen the cop brake and start to turn. Oh shit, what to do, best pull over (never been a big enough one to contemplate running); and then had the cop go screaming past. Early closing at the donut shop, or axe murderer on the loose, who knows.
Even the cops have admitted that it's not a pursuit if the person being pursued doesn't know they are being pursued. And I never know I'm being pursued. My natural innocence, compounded by elderly confusion, makes me always sure that I could not possibly be speeding. It must be those damn kilomegajublees again.

The only time this has happened to me (seriously) I was coming home late from work - tired, needed to get home fast - and was gassing it a bit on SH2. Approximately 60 over the limit (indicated). Saw the red and blues coming up fast from behind just as I passed the Silverstream turnoff on River Road so nowhere to go. Resigned myself to the inevitable, when the buggers went flying past a good 20 faster, so goodness knows where they were going. Heart started beating again a couple seconds later, and was still pounding when I got home.

Yes I concur contemplating gapping it from the popo is definately not the wisest decision, nor in the best interest of the person in control. My point is more targeting toward conversing of the buzz and feeling in the decision making at the time of the incident.
In the situation I had this morning, it was more a convenience option to do a left hand turn in darkness instead of going straight. I did speed up a little to get there a bit quicker whilst popo wasn't in sight......
Popo didn't see me turn off, and carried on. I felt stupid afterwards, and I did feel rather intrigued by the change in my decision making ability under pressure.
My advice as stated above is to pull over and take it like a man, just not sure how many demerits I have left lol......

That has happened, some time ago now, we were almost at the foot of the Bombays in the outside lane sitting 130 heading North. Over the brow, a cop heading the other way, a quick check in the mirrors and see the break lights brighten! Just hit the incline and up it to 140 weaving in and out, got to the top, pull into the BP area and Anne says '' do you need to go to the toilet''? um no, did you not see the Cop?

I had an interesting experience in the cage today. Said cage is very very little and rather elderly but is capable of motorway speeds with enough of a run up. Was driving along a road in Glenfield area and got up to the lights, only to notice blue and reds behind me. Traffic lights changed and I pootled forward only to be followed by the aforementioned blue and reds, only now with added siren. Duly pulled over to be told I had been going north of 65 in a 50 zone. So I suppose that was some form of "pursuit", with me completely unaware until just before the noisemaker came on.
I expressed some surprise, particularly given my elderly vehicle ("Well bugger me", I said, "I would never have guessed that I was speeding in this old crapper"), so the cop took my license away for a quick chat to his computer/handler, decided I was a good sort, and came back to encourage me to keep the speed down and be on my way with a warning.
The scary part is I honestly did not think I was driving at speed at all, and I did not notice the flashing lights until I happened to glance in the mirror at the lights. My situational awareness has obviously gone to crap.
Anyway, back on topic. No I would not do a runner. Neither my car nor my bike would outrun a fit cop on a bicycle, so there's no point. Also If they see your plate or get a pic (are there cameras in the cars?) you are screwed. Not worth it. Pay up and smile, or keep the speed down.

Iv had afew run ins with the law. But only once ran. After geting T boned n my car a week earlyer and on acc board out my mind i risked taking out the cr250 just to pick something up. Got around two corners and bang a cop was in the sholder dealing with a boy racer. I swear he must of jumped strait in his car as soon as i casualy rode past. So i take the first left and am hard on the twist for about a km and think iv lost him. Next thing, lights in the distance gaining on me. So back on the twist and now over the kurb and onto a park. But dead end, so whip it around and snaking strait for the cop car thats just kumin up to the park. Pop onto the back wheel right past the cops going now the wrong way. And i disapear.............. Second run in. On a ninja this time stuck behind 4 cars and an 18 wheeler, the passing lane is running out and im geting pissed sitting on 80-90. So hit it right over to the opasite side as its clear and pass the lot. Not knowing there was a mufty leading the group. Didnt even notice him. Next I see him half an hour later in the distance behind me. So i pull over. Get yelled at by a very mad cop. Lose my licence, bike and get a date with the judge. Speeding dosnt pay

Early '80s.. I had an XJ650 - fast bike in them days. Plod drove early commodores, 202 engined ones.
I was chased, XJ was way faster, but I ran low on gas, on reserve so thought I may just stop at any-time, so decided to stop, in the hope I would have enough gas to get home after copping the ticket.
I stopped, and the commodore stopped in front of me, angled in like he had just cut me off. A very red faced and clearly angry fella got out of the car, and was walking towards me, when we heard this massive "woosh" from his car.
He had been caning it for quite a few kays chasing me. When he stopped, he turned the key off, and the engine driven fan stopped. The car had just blown a radiator hose I think, steam, and water everywhere.
I didn't think it would improve his mood, so I left.

Two stories from when I was a younger man.
Heading home one afternoon came steaming over a hill at 3 figures (old money) and there was a traffic cop driving the other way. He must have been fairly quick witted as instead of doing anything silly he just gave me the finger and carried on. In case he could be bothered getting on the radio I pulled onto side roads and crawed home on gravel (on a sports bike) Arrived home late and worn out
Second story: Late for an appointment, pealed out and took off down the road. Freinds tell me I was chased with lights flashing etc but to this day I never saw him
These days I pick my moments a bit better

Yeah, I've done the dodger thing before, but a long time ago (a couple of decades) and in a car.
I have heard that while in the not stopping while others are wishing you to stop situation that most people turn first left...... I understand the police know this as well, if it were me in that car and had lost sight of you My bet would have been to turn first left as well.... just for shits and giggles.
In my case I was going 30+ above the limit when a police car came around a bend ahead and the driver inside looked in my direction, before I went around that bend he had turned on his red & blues and was starting a u-turn. I turned right then left then up a driveway - sat there for 10 minutes with adrenaline pumping like crazy, then carefully drove on to my destination.
It was a calculated move - I didn't think the cop had time to make a note of my number plate and he was making a u-turn while I went around the bend, then right - by the time he got to where I had been I would be out of sight and he would have no easy way of working out where I went.
In a case where you would have to ride really fast and actually outrun a cop I just don't know if it would be worth the risk of crashing & dying or getting caught and in more shit - probably not worth it for most people.

I had my first dodge the other day, just breaking through a bunch of traffic stuck behind a car waiting to turn right, so I took the left and got a bit of a boost going, when Mr Plod comes cruising on past. Brake, lights, looking to do the U when he meets the line of stuck traffic and can't quite initiate the turn. I was off down the next side street, and the nxst, and the next and took the round about route to my destination, alot slower.
I think, a well orchestrated dodge is enough of a warning most of the time. It takes a mad sort to cane it like crazy after a close miss (or so I'd hope :P)

Been in more than I care to say. :shifty:
One of the funniest though was a very early hours of the monring several years ago. I was already being pursued at medium speed for some 30s and I came across another copper speaking with a customer on the other side of the road. Obviously, Po-po #1 had been on the radio and Po-po #2 had heard of his plight and then seen me approaching and he was legging it back to his marked Commonwhore as I passed.
One thing has always intrigued me. Once you get in a wee tussle, the number of other cops you see is amazing. One Sunday night, at about 10pm, a copper turned and chased and I swear I saw no less than 3 more cops on my swift journey home.

if you drop them off the cliff maybe...i drove latest SV6 and to be honest they take awfuly too long to get from 120 to 160km so even if 260 was posible on very long straight road you'd be gone by then...
Someone I know  was doing 90 just as he/she entered an 80 zone with a porka coming the other way. Saw his brake lights come on and the big swerve to the road side luckily my friend tells me there was a long line of traffic coming and my friend gave his trailbike all that it had and ran. He/She never saw the pork again. I might give this a try one day too.

Ooh, that reminds me of another 'incident' from my yoof:
I was heading south on the main street of Hamilton and swooped around the free left turn onto Bridge street when I noticed a car back at the traffic lights turned on its red & blues. I thought "I wonder who he's after . . . oh wait, 80-90kph in a 50 zone by me might explain it". I didn't speed up (I was going quite fast enough as it was) and carried on over Bridge st bridge and up to the intersection, lights were green (luckily) and I made a right, then a left at the next lights (also green) and carried on home. I did have a wee chuckle to myself at the idea of a police officer attempting to get through the traffic on Bridge st - I would rate his chances at 'not a shit show'.
Actually I went the same way at the same speed as I would have if the cop hadn't been there at all.
This was on my GT-250 X7 - not a fast bike, but light and with good acceleration (2 stroke 250). I loved that bike, I got my first speeding ticket on it (and my 2nd & 3rd). Ah, good times!

No implication or judging, just general interest. I did something I didn't think I would ever do lol, and pulled it off with no implications as yet lol...... no helicopter overhead or armed popo at my door at least anyway, for now.
 you haven't got away with it yet :gob: I know where you work

I was going to ask “ did you turn at the first left you came to” but you say here you did.
I have heard that while in the not stopping while others are wishing you to stop situation that most people turn first left...... I understand the police know this as well, if it were me in that car and had lost sight of you My bet would have been to turn first left as well.... just for shits and giggles.
Lol, this be true, never thought of it like that. Basically I turned off the main road where I usually traverse to avoid a toll road. I suspect popo was held up by several vehicles whilst he had to do a U turn.......... hopefully on a straight clear piece of road lol..

I know, I wouldn't be hard to locate or identify..... I ride with a Patch which is easily traceable, and my employment is very much in the public service so not overly smart on my account.
I think it's fair to say, I wasn't too bad, I only sped a bit more to get clear of the break water. I'm guessin he moved onto a bigger fish.

uhm...
it happened actually...
the problem is that we have very large number plates, and they have to be pretty visible, so the possibility that the cops read your number and wait for you at your door is huge.
then there is another problem: running is a crime here, so they are allowed to fire at you. truly is that not so many cops have the will to undergo a trial to explain why they have fired at you and if they have done everything perfectly, but you can never know, and having bullets flying around you can be annoying...
so, you have to be ABSOLUTELY confident to make it, and that they have no way to find you now and never, or they'd be "bitter dicks" as we say...
Heard an interesting story recently from a KBer who had received information from an authoritative source that the new HP cars are supposed to be capable of 260kph. Recent experience suggested, however, that figure might be just a tad optimistic.
Not all cops are actually capable of using that sort of performance but one of our locals raced in the IoM, if he was after you you'd need to be really quick. Or really lucky.

italian HP has three of those... :) :)
but, aside the advertising tricks, the real problem is that they have no need to chase you at 250 kmh: they need just to call at the radio that you are going down that direction, and coordinate the action with the other cars...
PS: 3t, 1s, 4u... ???? what the hell are you talkin about????

3T - stopping a person, whether they be on foot, cycle or vehicle, to check details or deal with an offence.
1S - sudden death.
4U - off at the POPO station dealing with a K9.
K9 - arrest.
So there.

i got some ear plugs but im not entirely sure im using them properly.
i roll em up and put em in fine. but im just not sure how far in... like i dont want it to go rape my ear drum. sorry if that sounds stupid.
so i always have a tiny bit of it sticking out. but in the instructions on the back. it says i have to full yput it in so the end is flat against my ear.
but even with the lil bit sticking out my ear it still feels like its raping my ear. so i stopped using it

Go the moulded plugs... they're a perfect fit everytime, and there's nothing sticking out to snag on your helmet... bliss. Try plugs4lugs, no complaints here.

Got away with it once on TZR 250 in the country and twice in my cars but that was in the late 80s and early 90s these days the technology usually gets you not to mention the speed the plod cars can do now, was fun back then wouldn't be keen on it now.
Hopefully that means I've grown up but also got kid's I wan't to see grow up.
