View Full Version : Cleaned out in Palmy

Arrived home from a tough week’s work yesterday to find my house has been gutted and virtually everything of value stolen including my 06 RMZ 250 that was chained up in the garage and all my riding gear...
And it gets worse... The cops couldn't come to do prints that night so we stayed at friends and when we got home this morning the thieves had been back for round two and took anything they missed the first time.
Although a lot of it will be covered by insurance I'd really like to see these big balled crims caught and any further burglaries be avoided.
Below are pictures of the bike which was stolen. It has a distinctive black powder-coated frame and rims with aftermarket graphics. If anyone spots it out on the trail circuit can you please PM me.

Gutted mate, sorry to hear it. The amount of dirt bike and general thievery around seems to be an epidemic, as the govt would rather have the fuzz doing road taxing etc. Good to hear you had insurance though, neither of my mates did and both lost 5 grand of bike each in the last year.

That sucks - even though insurance covers it - I imagine it would still feel nasty thinking that some assholes had been going through your stuff. You work hard for what you have and some loser thinks they can just take it.

Mate that sucks, got to be local, they new when you were out and they must have seen you leave again, and came back for the rest, first think to do is do a little door knocking in your street, someone must have seen something, don't just leave to the police, you may have better luck, as they will only check the seen of the crime for finger prints, and take down what was stolen.
I never got my bike back, but nobody rides up and down my street on dirt bikes anymore, that you know could be stolen.

Ideally I hope your bike and gear gets found in the same condition you had it in + a full tank or the bike protests and shyts itself causing a bin in a place with cheese cutters either side.
Is that wrong? :innocent:
Going along with the same extremism, being bent in half and shoved groin first into a woodchipper is the only punishment...Imagine the deterrent effect..I.M.H.O of course.

Man this is bad! Same thing happened to me last week and I'm in Palmy too. I was lucky though, they couldn't carry much due to a padlock on the gate. But they got all my riding gear AND both sets of bike keys. And house keys. I've changed all the locks and the bike has two disc locks on it now but I still can't use it until the locks are changed on that as well. Whereabouts in Palmy are you, I'm Milson. The police have been great, while he was here to do the paperwork we were listening to his radio which was just one never ending stream of lowlifes preying on the rest of us. The police are outnumbered, we need more of them and more neighbourhood patrols!

Time to say fark off pc,wire the bloody houses/sheds eh.
My brothers ex boss opened a shop selling named clothing a few years ago, after the 3rd break in,and even after the burgs went onto the roof and through skilight,he told the cops he would wire the place(owner was registered sparky).Cops said you can't do that,to which owner replied yep I can,if they get 220v they shouldn't be there, think he wired the internal bars to give 6000v from electric fence unit, when alarm turned off bars were ok,think he even had larger unit on his roof.
All very well being insured, but they ping you with premium and excess increases etc,hmm maybe insurance council hires these wankers so after paying out they can increase the policy owners premiums lol.
Hope it gets sorted.

Reminds me of this good 'ole urban legend:
This is the true story of George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi,
who was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light
on in the shed. George opened the door to go turn off the light but
saw there were people in the shed in the process of stealing things.
He immediately phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your
house?" and George said no and explained the situation. Then they
explained that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock
his door and an officer would be there when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police
again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people
in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've
just shot them all."
Then he hung up. Within five minutes three squad cars, an Armed
Response unit, and an ambulance showed up. Of course, the police
caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd
shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

One doies worry about their priorities.
True story...one lone cop sent to break up a gang brawl in a local pub carpark. No-one to assist. Less than 100m away was a booze bus check point with 8 cops manning it. They could hear and see the ruckus but ignored it.

I’m in Hokowhitu backing onto a school.
It looks like they just kicked the fence down and dragged everything through the school.
If i could get anything back I would really like it to be the bike. It’s had a lot of work put into it and probably won’t be worth anywhere near as much to them as it was to me.
Cheers for the replies,

One is an event that is happening with a possible threat to life, the other has happened and no current threat exists.

Its not a speeding driver, it is a pursuit and there is a clear threat to public safety.
Where is the threat to public safety in a burglary that has happened?
It will get attended just not now.
Wannabiker
20th June 2010, 16:19
...or one will result in an easy conviction with an already pre-determined outcome (fine, loss of licence) and another one on the tally towards the traffic "contacts" or is it "outcomes" .
The other requires some effort, no "thrill of the chase" and if by some chance, the offender is caught, even more work bring the offender to court, for what will at worst be a slap on the wrist. (which must be qiute soul destroying for the prosecuting officer)

surely three cars would be enough for a pursuit, leaving one to attend the burglary. I mean if the speeds are so dangerous you would want less cars traveling at that speed anyway right?

You might be lucky enough to have 3 cars working in Palmy, and one could be tied up in some other job, like locking up kids who steal 'McGiffert St' signs.
Wannabiker
20th June 2010, 16:28
if he wasn't being chased, there would be far less threat to public safety.... he would simply be a speeding driver.... Now using the scenario above there are 4 speeding vehicles...with the front one going even faster to avoid the following 3.....
christ in Upper Hutt a simple fender bender at an intersection gets a 6 car response...perhaps they are racing to get to write the ticket first?? Still a 2 day response for burgulary and a 6 day response when the car yard NEXT TO THE POLICE STATION was burgled!!!

that doesn't even make sense, 3-1 is still 2, and as wannabike says, perhaps a big pursuit causes more danger than it avoids.

SD and red mermaid,
I am interested to know what (resources?) you think would increase the police catching burglars/solving theft cases? I think everyone here would say that theft is pretty much an epidemic all over the country and I am inclined to think that is because currently the rewards are high and the risks are low.

Decent sentences would make the real difference.
We do catch them but you would hardly notice the difference it makes to their offending...

What if the burglars are the ones speeding?
Large screen tv's and a steady diet of KFC has sorta ruled out skateboards and push-bikes as a standard tool of the burglars trade around these parts.

Just browsing through the police website and see that the resolution rate for burglary in the Central Districts is about 17%. Doesn't really give one much hope. I suppose most burgled goods just filter out into the community never to be seen again, by their rightful owners.

And remember that is a stat so can be manipulated in many ways. If you want further details I can PM you.
And as SD said decent sentences would help.
I can remember starting at a new station and my first job was to take a burglar to prison. This guy earned his living from burglary and was constantly at it, and occassionally got caught.
You would think after a few years appearing in court he would get something close to the maximum so the community was safe from him...Yeah Right!

I'd definitely be interested in knowing more. I guess the problem with burglars is catching them in the act, which would be quite difficult. And then the proceeds would just filter out into the community under the radar and would involve a large element of luck in recognising they were stolen goods.
How difficult would it be to have more patrols around the suburbs, given the seeming increase in burglarys in Palmy lately? I know that it's a matter of resources but it would be great to catch more of these guys.

Burglars are a bit like habitual speeders - they both only get caught now and then, not every time.
But the cop that catches them probably has a fair idea the time he catches them is the only time they've done it.
