STOLEN!!
Kawasaki ZX10R 2007
Rego: 69ZZN (although it’s likely they will have replaced plates)
Photo attached

Stolen from Meadowlands, Auckland on Friday 18 June approx 6:35pm. The guy saw the bike advertised on TradeMe and asked to 'test drive' it. His mate waited in the car for about 5 minutes after he left for the 'test drive' and then his mate in the car sped off. The car was a BMW 320i or 318i, 1987 - 1992, gold/champagne colour. He's a Caucasian guy in his late 20's/ early 30’s, slim build, approx 6ft tall.

He also took my CLST Myth MC2 blue helmet (size small), Dri Climate Pro black jacket (size large), and Dri Blizzard black pants (size XL).

Bike has no rear pegs and no pavilion seat. Minor scrape on right front fairing. Bike has done approx 25,600 kms.

VIN: JKAZXCD127A026184
Engine no: ZXT00D022283
Chassis: JKAZXCD127A026184

If someone offers to sell you this motorcycle, please call the police immediately.

It’s likely that the plates and VIN number may have been changed (we have a feeling this guy knows what he’s doing). The bike might not even be blue anymore! If you have any suspicions what so ever, please let us know.

If you have any details of this bikes whereabouts please contact Mathew Buchan on 027 427 3645

Please, help us catch this lowlife SCUM!!

Well I hope you filled the tank for him and gave him extra cash should he run out on his 'test ride'

Sorry you lost your bike, but it has to be said you practicaly gave it to them.

Nobody test rides without leaving wallet and car and credentials and girlfriend behind. In fact nobody test rides full stop. Bugger aye!

21st June 2010, 10:56
ARGH! That sucks. Good on you for being trusting enough to let him ride it in the first place and so sad that you got burned. Guess that'll change now. Sigh. This is how our society turns distrustful and paranoid - thanks to fuckers like him.

Just a thought - how did he contact you? Would telecom or trademe have details that you could use to trace the person?

21st June 2010, 11:01
Hold the fuck on, you let this guy take your bike on a test ride, WITHOUT HOLDING anything of his, and you also gave him your jacket, helmet, and pants?

Let this be an important lesson to everyone. Do NOT allow test rides without CASH IN HAND.

Top Tip:
ALWAYS take a photograph of anyone taking a bike for a test ride. Full face shot.

Make them aware of the reason WHY you are taking their photo...

Good luck with getting your ride back.

Mate photos don't do shit, and neither does holding the keys to their car.

There are hundreds of photos plastered all over the place, "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN", I doubt they ever help in catching the perp. And as for holding car / bike keys, it could be stolen.

Money talks. Everything else walks.

He also took my CLST Myth MC2 blue helmet (size small), Dri Climate Pro black jacket (size large), and Dri Blizzard black pants (size XL). SCUM!!

I hope this scumbag is caught, BUT fuck, did you give him your missus as well? Wasn't it a bit suss when he had NO GEAR!
I would have held the guys entire wallet when he came around, take a photo & compare it with his license. If he's got no gear should ring bells that he's not really a serious buyer.

You live & learn, I do hope you get it back though.

Man that sucks.

Recently sold my bike, quick call to the insurance said a $750 excess would apply if the bike was stolen or damaged by other rider - so anyone that wanted to 'test ride' it I said you need to give me 750 cash in hand. Soon sorts out the time wasters.

Yep, I always either take a picture of their drivers license or hold onto it, and take a picture of their car carefully including their license plate.

And even then, I only allow test pilots based on a character judgement. Either I judge you trustworthy enough to ride it, or you're shit outta luck.

Best of luck getting the bike back mate, pity you didn't get the cars plate!

If he called your mobile(if you Have one) at least there is a lead within the number he called from,But if you haven't already contacted Trademe I am sure that they Can supply if not you but the police that traders information

everything use too be on face value, now we are at no licence no cash no ID no ride now,if anyone was too turn up to buy one of my bikes without any gear and without the full price there would be no ride

Interesting to read all of your comments. Thanks to those of you with constructive comments. Of course in hindsight I should of would of could of done alot of things differently, and it's knawing at my brain!! It's the first time I've sold a bike before and I guess I never really stopped to think about how different it is to someone test driving a car. It sucks to think that you can't trust anyone, looks can be extremely deceiving, but I guess i had to learn someday.

The police have a few leads that they are following up through TradeMe and Vodafone. Also, someone spotted the bike driving around St Heliers on Sunday with no plates on, so please do keep an eye out.

Swapping the keys won't ensure your safety though. About 20yrs ago in ChCh some guy stole a flash pushbike, took it to a cheap car dealer, left it as security and test drove a car. He then took that car to another dealer, offered it as a trade on another more expensive car and took that for a test drive. He repeated this proccess throughout the day and ended up in a flash Euro. I don't think he was ever traced.

He was in said car industry at the time.

Actually it happened only a couple years before I joined the car sales industry, but it certainly tightened up test drive procedures. My point is, just accepting that the vehicle someone turns up in or on is actually there's may not ring true. Honestly, you could still employ this tactic now, but you would want to say you're either keeping the vehicle or have it sold elsewhere otherwise they will run a security check on it immediately and find out the true ownership.

I had a towey looking at my bike the other day and said he'd tow it. He put his hand on the handle bar and my blood started boiling. I asked him to take his hand off immediately. Lucky he did because I would have done something stupid. Two types of people I hate in this world are thieves and tow truck drivers. I hope you find those fuckers that stole your awesome bike and pay them back with some serious retribution. Shit like this really makes me want to get a snitch installed...

I agree with you mate, what the fuck difference does it make if she's a woman. Too many softies around here.

As for the thread starter.... my god I feel for you, I really do. Usually the people who have bikes stolen have insurance and it is not too bad reading these threads. Probably spent what... 16 grand on that bike? Just taken away like that. No words for it.

But really people, what the fuck is it with so many folks practically giving away thousands of dollars of machinery?? Are you all just millionaires or waht? Honestly, even for falling apart- pieces of shit 250 cbr's I have always withheld keys for a car or money in hand.

A fool and his money is easily parted. Please, please get your bike back and keep us updated... all the best. Am keeping an eye out.

Luckily the dumb ass made some stupid mistakes, which has eventually lead to his arrest..! :)

He'll be appearing in court next month. Hes pleading not-guilty which is fucking stupid as he has numerous eye witnesses who have all identified him.

Still havn't got our bike back, but I know that the two other people on this forum who had their bikes stolen from the same guy have got theirs back safe and sound so I'm happy for them.

I know that our bike is still out there as my partner saw it being driven around in Greenlane about a month ago (he was in a car and couldn't get through the traffic to catch up). Still has the same plates on it - 69ZZN. If you see it and tackle the rider to the ground, that'd be much apprecaited :). Seriously though, if you do see it and manage to get our bike back to us in one piece, we'll give you $1,000.

Please keep your eyes peeled!! Blue Kawasaki ZX10R 2007, no pavillion seat, plate 69ZZN.

There is another light fingered cunt from Pukekohe called Sean, Shaun or Shawn Ginty.
He nicked a couple of race bikes on a trailer from me a (long) while back. If you see him, give him a good hard kick in the nuts for me. Cops knew he did it but couldn't pin it on him. Andrew from the Pukekohe MC Graveyard wreckers helped out heaps with the recovery of some of my stuff, cheers to him.
I fucking hate thieves!!!

Yeah the guy who was riding it claims to have brought it legitimately off TradeMe but I don't see how cos he wouldn't have been able to change the ownership papers since it had been reported stolen. Plus he said he paid $7,000 and its worth like $12,000 so you'd think there'd be warning bells going off there ay. Not sure what to believe but just glad we got it back we thought it was long gone. Still had same plates on it and everything
