I know this isn't the most logical place to ask, but I assume some of you out there may have had experience with a diesel mechanic or 2 in your life.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows/had experience with a good (preferably cheapish) diesel mechanic in the Wellington Region?
I'm having a few concerns with me vans ticker/muscles, she seems to be thirsty & appears to be lacking a bit in the muscle department. I just want to find out if my concerns are just & if so get her fixed.

If the timing belt is a bit old it will run a little retarded and that will make it smoke badly and be gutless to drive.

What engine is it exactly?

The OP said he wanted a mechanic, not an online diagnosis.

Shes a Nissan and her tickers a TD23Cant find an engine diagram but pretty sure that has a timing belt. It's not hard to change it yourself, except you might need a puller to get the front pulley off.

We get that fault all the time - engine gets hard to start and runs rough until it warms up, runs smoggy and rich and has no power.

If you dont want to do it, any mechanic can.. no need for a pricey diesel specialist.

pretty sure that has a timing belt.

They don't have a cambelt dickhead. It probably just needs a new set of points and the carb adjusted.

Sorry about DB, he just makes shit up and posts it.

Pretty sure there is a place called Diesel Specialists, or at least there was. They were pretty good on the smaller stuff.

Motus right TD23s do not have cambelts. And even if it did a stretched cambelt actually advances the timing.

Most of the small nissan diesels have a camchain and a separate timing belt to run the injector pump. I know coz I have two of them and they go soft and eventually drop pump belts all the time if they're not replaced regularly.

I can't tell you exactly if the TD23 fits in this category, but if it does, theres your fault. Diesels aren't that complicated.

Sorry, but I can't help myself.

Not most of the Nissan diesels have a chain and a belt, only 2 have this set up the ld20 and ld28. They stopped making them in about 1986.

I am looking for a diesel mechanic shop that is good and close to my home. I live in Franklin Wis. and am willing to drive 50 miles or so to have it repaired. I tore the main keel off the bottom and need it welded back on. There are no holes in the boat. Please e-mail if you know someone that can repair it and is dependable..
