Blimey they are pretty impressive figures, the sort of figures you's see from a big capacity race engine not that long ago (read now!).

Have there been any issues with reliability??

The potential for further HP by comparison should push it to well over 200 at the rear wheel in superbike pec.

None that I am aware of, and there is heaps more HP in the ECU alone

Its bloody amazing really, Beemer's first real attempt at a serious sports bike and it kicks the opposition into touch.
They have always had a chalk and cheese image with their cars and bikes and now look at them.

i think what they did was build a race bike and added a few things on top so you could ride it on the road. unlike the jappas you have to change everything for the track if you want a fast bike

Anything over 85hp is a waste. My beemer with 85 horse doen't need a fancy traction control package and still easily does the speed limit with a little in reserve.

Oh yeah, from what I heard you looked slow too :shifty:

Have you had yours on the dyno yet Sloan, and is it going to have red numbers or black ones next season?? :innocent:

Holeshot racing in Ireland put a straight from the crate one on their dyno = 193 hp (they are fitting a turbo kit) their specialty. Another tuner (dutch i think) did a pipe/filter/re-map and got 210............... loved the cars........now lovin the bike (s1000 only of cos) where is the 675 triple they are developing!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair making a powerful engine was never going to be a problem for a company like BMW. How long have they been making Formula 1 engines?
Making a Chasiss to handle it was, what I and many others thought they would stumble on...

I thought it would've been the 'I-Drive' system. It gets ragged on in all their cars.

Not even the chassis so much as the electronics package. Launch, traction, wheelie control all built in. All useful too, I reckon

With HP figures like that it truely make the bike worth the extra $$$ By the time you put some YEC cams and ECU on a new R1 it would be up to the same price but still not have as much power or ABS and TC

Price wise I think it's a very good deal. They sell for 27k, where RSV4 and 1198 are around the 40k mark, usual 1000cc Jap start around the 20-23k mark but you get so much more with the 1000rr. Also given it's BMW I'd say you're pretty safe to assume fantastic reliability.

Harden up be-artch, Gareth has been beating a factory BMW on a dirty old Honda like yours with b-grade tyre's and 160hp motor. Maybe you should learn how to ride properly. BOI
If you wait a few months he may be here to give you some free lessons.

Totally agree Choppa, the Yamaha's have never been power houses but they tend to be faster than their horsepower figure shows on a dyno. The Beemer is a weapon which is to be expected from a manufacturer with good racing pedigree. An IDM factory BMW rider apologised to Gman for passing him at Nurbigring on every straight because he saw how hard Gareth was trying on the corners. I read a German article last week that said the beemer motor has the capability to make 250 at the crank......................... I believe it with what they do with Formula 1 cars.
