View Full Version : Why is it, every time I fuel up...

mattian

I get some muppet waiting behind me, even when the pumps on either side of me are free?

Would it be wrong of me to inform the person waiting that the hoses can reach the tank from either side of the car? I was very tempted today but, the only thing that stops me is that I might come off as sounding rude.
Instead, I told the lady at the counter that they should put some signs up.

It gets quite ridiculous when queues start forming up when some of the pumps are free. It does my head in.

Because people do not realise that if they turn their cars around 180 degrees, they can then use the "wrong side" pumps for their cars.

It took me far longer than any reasonable person would have expected to convince my mother that this was possible.

you dont need to turn the car around. The hose will go over the car and reach the other side while pointing in the same direction as a pump on the other side.

Ignore the people that are waiting. If they choose to queue up to wait for your pump while there are other pumps free, they can bloody well wait til you get your helmet and gloves back on. If they beep or give u rude gestures then yeah, go ahead and say something

Some people dont like a dirty fuel hose drapping over thier car.
If they wish to wait for you, dont feel pressured, its thier choice to do so.
I would rather the right side of the pumps when fueling my Work Van, and the left side when fueling the Holden.
Either side when its the Honda, Its my vehicle and I choose which side to fuel from.

watched some bird try this once, pulled in, got out, oops cap on wrong side, drove around the pumps to the adjacent one, got out, fuck still on wrong side, try again, wtf why does this still not work, leave station without getting gas. Turns out if you drive around something and face the other direction, its still on the same side  some people really shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Ignore the people that are waiting. If they choose to queue up to wait...Yup, don't worry, man. Ignore what people do - it doesn't and can't affect you. Surely you have something interesting to occupy your mind rather than worry about what people think.

Even if they want to stand on their horn - let them, and smirk to yourself. It's their heart attack, not yours. If you feel the need, show finger etc as you do.

Are you sure it's every time you go and get fuel?

Like everyone else says, if that's their choice ignore them. Some people even expect you to push your bike out of the way when finished. That's a good one as well (like where, the service station is full).

Why is something as trivial as this bothering you?

I usually approach the pumps when I'm in my car so that the pump is closest to the side where the fill point is. I don't mind waiting.

Is it really that much of an issue for you?

It bothers me at the time. I'm standing there filling up my bike and, this car pulls up and waits to use my pump, when the other one is totally free. Its absurd. As soon as I have paid and left it doesnt bother me anymore. Just leaves me a little puzzled.

i used to love watching people [usually women] do that when i was bp. funny as hell. i also remember some teachers from the local high school came over in the van. the place was full and their cap was on the other side. the station i worked at was so small that you basically had to go out onto the road to turn around, by which time "your" pump had been taken by someone else. their solution? put the driver and passenger windows down and carefully pass the hose through the front. cracked me up big time... quite a clever idea really.

as for filling my bike, at the local shell i prefer to use pumps on the left due to the angle of the stand and camber of the forecourt. if i park the other way, it feels like the bike is gonna fall over.

ever notice how in a big carpark that is mostly empty, if you put your car in a empty row, when you come out there is almost always someone parked directly beside you, even though they could have parked anywhere (incl. closer to doors of shop).

Is usually some beat up POS too, parked far to close to you.

Yes, the general public IS retarded.

you should see it when someone hits a parked car while trying to avoid a traffic cone.

You can if you wind down the Drivers and Passengers window, and run the hose through the cab.

Even on a flat forecourt, I find it a lot more comfortable when the pump is on the left too. Easier to angle the nozzle in.

Depends on how long the waiting line of cars is. Its not how long ity takes to put the gas in....its the putting on of gloves (oops I dropped one) ....looking for the key (bugger zipped my jacket up) ...removing gloves because forgot to do helmet up first.....now wheres my sunglasses.....

See this (waiting for the pump on the right side of my car) doesn't bother me. Like Maha said, it's their choice.

Consider this, would you let a forecourt attendant (as rare as they are) fill up your $300,000 Ferrari by draping the hose over your car to the other side? Some of them think and hold the hose off your car but most have no idea what damage it can actually do. Hence why I always fill my own car. But if you don't care about your car, you won't give a shit about the hose and where it sits. Others, well if they wait, up to them. Not all of them are morons for waiting.

What pisses me off is when a car stops at a stupid place at the pump blocking both pumps. Even before they turn the engine off you're right up their date so the hose reaches to your car. They look at you like you're dirt and gonna ram them but still don't move 2 feet forward so everyone wins.

Lack of respect for others. Before turning car off, can others use pumps after me? Yes? Pump away.

And don't fucken use WINDSCREEN BRUSHES TO WASH YOUR FUCKEN CAR!!! But I digress :) Carry on.

Treat the situation with amusement, smile and nod at them knowing that you are a smarter person than they are. Its like being breath tested at the compulsory stop on a cold winters night. You all know the drill, remove gloves, other gloves, helmet pull down balaclava. Speak into breathalyser. By this time the chap behind you is already finished and it getting antsy. Put back on all said gear that takes longer as you have to fill all those pesky gaps that let the cold air in. By this time, said guy behind is almost irate and polite policeman has to ask him to calm down. Haha, it amused me though.
