View Full Version : So...now I'm a Devil!

Biggles08

Well after plenty of speculation and "whats with the new green paintjob?" it is official, I have accepted an invitation to ride for the RED DEVIL RACING team for the 2010 / 2011 season. I'm absolutely stoked to have been asked and I hope I can do their decision justice. Needless to say I grabbed this opportunity with both hands and said yes please!

I'm excited for all my sponsors who have supported me to this point as it provides new opportunities for more exposure for them. I'm looking forward to learning all the "tricks of the trade" from this well established team and as we all know 'knowledge is gold' in this game we all call racing.

See you lot on the track!

Gooooooooooooooo KAWASAKI!!!!!!

I cant help but think its going to be an overweight lemon. The bike I mean - not Nick.
To have a crank strong enough to handle that firing order AND have an electric motor to keep it turning sounds like the dumbest idea since Yamaha claiming exup increases torque. I wonder how heavy the balance shaft will be.

In all fairness Steve EXUP does increase torque but only at low rpm where the butterfly valves restrict reverse pressure waves that at that rpm will have a negative effect during valve overlap. Typically where you see a hole in the torque curve, that hole or depression gets largely filled in. but at mid range and higher rpm the EXUP valve restricts flow and reduces midrange and higher range torque. The difference in fitting a free flow aftermarket exhaust that deletes the EXUP valve can be substanial, much more mid and upper torque but with a substanial hole in the low end delivery.
I recall fitting a full Arrow system to a first generation R1 a few years back. Whilst I cant remember the torque figures peak horsepower with the standard exhaust was around 120 with a nice flat torque curve. Simply fitting the pipe with no other changes yielded a loss of low end but much more mid and upper, yielding 145bhp corrected.
Excess weight is a big penalty with the current R1 so if the ''long bang'' concept is going to further catch on the challenge for manufacturers is going to be to ''add lightness''
Yamaha Motor Co certainly have in more recent years assumed the mantle of being the innovators of the industry, at least amongst the Japanese manufacturers. Even if they dont get it right first time they have the guts to go for it.

True Robert, I was meaning that to get maximum torque you dont block off the exhaust, it is the only way manufacturers can get the noise limit down enough. I still think the zx10 idea is a bit to weird for people too accept, the big thing about the R1 is that its "unique and sortoff like Rossi's". I hope for Kawasaki it works as they can bring out some weapons, it just seems too different for a street bike at this time. The gtr1000 I think it was called had the same issue?

Yes thats the perverse thing, the noise tests are often conducted at a certain speed in a certain gear at certain rpm, or suchlike. Often there is a hole deliberately placed in the torque curve just to pass a noise test.

And they were involved in aerial bombing practice over Pearl Harbour 07/12/41. They also built the ''Nippon clipons'' on Aucklands Harbour Bridge. A huge company ( KHI ) that has a weakness for also building motorcycles.

Theres not much wrong with the BP product and its my fuel of choice given that it is predominantly a British owned company and I unashamedly have an affinity for the country of my forebears, as recent as my grandfather. Interesting to note that given all of the caustic criticism levelled directly at the British by President Oblamer BP is 45% owned by American interests. Also very interesting that the company subcontracted to do the drilling is an American company using American equipment.
Sorry off subject but it just illustrates that news reports and emotive comments are too often one sided. The spillage is totally inexcusable but theres a lot of hypocrisy and grandstanding going on.
Id be interested to know what is the fuel of choice for those that care to answer?

Your right...completely off topic but funny enough I was having a similar conversation the other day with someone who wanted to boycott BP...I asked them if they 'knew' if it was BP's fault or if they just had heard it. I personally haven't looked into the matter myself therefor I feel it is redundant taking action against a company merely based on what the general popular opinion is and what the media have been reporting. If I was to take action to make a point, I would firstly need to know that I had done justice to myself in finding out the relevant information before commencing a 'knee-jerk" protest reaction against BP. Like you said Robert, there are more subcontractors involved in the fiasco that arguably could be more directly at fault. I can't understand how this could have happened in the first place?! Anyway...Goooooooo KAWASAKI!!!!!!!!!!!!:2thumbsup

Firstly - Congratulations Marcus !! onya !

I use BP 'cause they have a 98 pump at my local servo. I'll continue to use it - they are gonna need the money - my small contribution to the clean up.

In the UK at present the bullshit about the oil spill is outrageous. I saw a newspaper headline the other day " Obama ruins British pensions !" Just because he referred to BP as British Petroleum - Of course NOBODY wants to be associated with the spill and even though it is a consortium unfortunately for BP their name is on the rig.
The main thing people in the UK seem to be worried about is how it will affect the share price of BP. Nobody is gonna come out of this looking good (especially the sea birds)

Apparently several companies that drill there (the Gulf of Mexico) submitted containment plans that were a crock - references to "sea lions" ??? it looks like they just took an existing plan and did search and replace "North Sea > Gulf of Mexico" and the US "Authorities" approved them !!!

The only good thing about it is it happened of the coast of the US shitloads of money and effort will be spent to clean it up - if it was the coast of Africa (or NZ * ) nobody would give a toss. Imagine the Ivory Coast or NZ Government trying to put pressure on BP

The really bad news is its in the "storm belt" Hurricane season is coming !!!

I'd be interested in any comments from our resident "oil man" if it has made any difference to operations on the rig he's working on ?

* A spill from a rig of Taranaki was not even reported by the company until it washed ashore and locals complained.

It was great to see new British PM David Cameron not buying into Oblamers emotive rhetoric. Sure it has to be cleaned up and cleaned up quickly and would have been done so if it was easy. But its clearly not easy. But a few careless words by Oblamer and Congress members ( in the perverse political system that the Yanks have ) will further negatively impact on BPs value and its ability to mop up the mess and still come out as a viable company. If many thousands of jobs get lost because of all this then its yet another sad outcome. And the litigation is doubtless going to go on and on for years, the roving sharks of the legal proffession will be rubbing their hands together.
