no idea how it works but some dudes on the web think its great.

As quoted:

Racechrono is a great bit of software for Nokia S60 devices, especially those with inbuilt GPS radios (N95). Check out the additional software which renders the data in to an avi that you can overlay on track video.

and
There is also an app for iPhone/Touch which will measure G's using the inbuilt the accelerometer.

Arron, the only lap timing you need to worry about is "Am I under 34s a lap"

Arronduke

yes might need to slow down....

I've got RaceChrono on my phone. Awesome piece of software. Lap timing, multiple split timing, it draws a map of your course, measures g forces, any type of time trial you want, can export all the info to a number of programs including excel and google maps. I honestly can't rave about it enough. Oh and it's free.

The Nokia N95 also has a built in accelerometer which will give you g force readings.

the old some dude on the internet said this is awesome ay??? Is anything not rated as awesome by someone????

as a cheap option to a basic lap timer its probably not a bad solution with much more function, but to a proper gps lap timer id be interested in its accuracy.

Find out for yourself here (http://www.racechrono.com/manual/?page_id=19).

They claim 'Lap timing with a normal 1 Hz GPS and RaceChrono achieves +-0.25 seconds accuracy or better, and with 5 Hz GPS the accuracy will be better than +-0.15 seconds.'

They also have a forum there, never checked it out myself but if they are talking crap you'll find out there no doubt.

yes might need to slow down....

Get that super flash GPS dash and see if you can hook up a slow down light on the last slpit time if you look like going under 34. You could win the B grade for years on end and get yourself a reputation for being a super consistent rider.

Henk... now that sound great....

Hookk it up the the ignition to cut the motor for 2sec if the lap time looks to good.

Now how would I do that?

Trudes had a program on her iPhone. I personally have an XT Racing lap time, although i've never used it at buckets. Would be really really interesting to have them on the same bike @ the same time.
From my guessing i would still suspect that the GPS one wouldn't be as accurate as an IR timer like the XT. Maybe i should let her borrow my xt next time!

Whats the cheapest phone you can buy which can run this? I need a new phone!

The lap timer on my iphone is pretty good, but it does require a little initial setting up and re-mounting it to the bike every time (as well as the added worry of crashing and smashing up your phone), however...... it does seem to give fairly accurate times, and is good as it keeps a record of your laps, gives you maps of the lines you rode, g-forces and lean angles (now that's a hoot to look at..... "phooooooo, look at that, I was pulling .6 Gs!!")
The app cost me about $15 I think.

Go to their website and click on the download tab, it lists all the phones there it works on.

Believe me I don't need anything telling me to go faster. Last 3 laps on Sunday it should have said either "For gods sake don't crash" or "HE'S RIGHT BEHIND YOU"
What a blast, three laps trying to get past and 3 laps hoping like hell he was going to stay there. I think Daniel was about 6 inches behind me across the finish line, if I had pushed any harder I would have been doing a spot of gardening when the chequered flag fell.

I had a go in the A grade's last points race
I started at the back of the grid ( trying to stay out of the way )
Got lapped near the end by Tim & Gavin
I was 10th out of 11
But good experance for next meeting
I should be a bit faster by the time Arron finishes his FXR and is bumped up to A grade.

He did see you out there, I was flagging at the infield and made a comment about you riding in the A grade. He commented he'd thou ght he'd seen you out there.
I think it;s good with everyone being bumped up to the A grade, as I won't have so many people lapping me next month. I got put off by the crap weather, and then the testosterone when it was dry.
I need to figure you out from the front, as it's not until you've gone past me (riding or flagging) I realise it's you (I'm not just a shocker with names, but I seem to learn a person a time).

You been given the kick up then? about time :)

Is that how A and B grade is decided ? A lap time cutoff ?

Henk
27th June 2010, 15:05
It is in Auckland. B grade is an invitation grade run by JC. If you go under 34s in a race you get the kick up. I think there is a 2 second margin one way or the other depending on track direction. Not sure if anyne has ever been kicked out of the A grade for being too slow.
Seems to work, theory behind it is to keep the speed differences down.

Not sure how it is worked out at other tracks.

frount running B graders are mid pack A grade or better

Henk
27th June 2010, 21:22
About eight of us got the boot up about three months ago, we now pretty much are the midpack, the only noticeable dfifference from my point of view is that now instead of ocasionally lapping people I get lapped myself now and then. I'm still dicing with the same guys. Although I think the push into the A grade has made us all ride a bit faster.

Be gentle .....
Should be fun at the back
I just have to stay away from clashing with Colin & Henk !

Excellent. Advice for the A grade

run 30 pounds in your tyres.
Wets suck.
Run with 250ml of gas for a lighter fuel load and better acceleration and handling.
Leave the bike in second the whole way round track to save time on pointless gear changes.
Take a wide line through every corner to maximise corner speed.

I'm sure I'll have some more helpful hints by the time you line up on the grid next to me so just ask.

Great advice Henk... I am sure Grant will take it all on board.

Also so Grant... the FXR motor is designed to run with 100mls of oil... any more and it casue the crank to lose momentium.

Sad part is Graham has tried most of them already!

- Pumped up his tyres to 60 PSI
- Used petrol mixed for his two stroke motor mower
- Was running his bike low on oil ...as he hadn’t checked it since he brought the bike.
- Bike was to high geared so would bog down ...used only 2nd gear hitting the rev limiter!
Last meeting at Mt Wellington
- Forgot to tighten up the rear axle nut (wondered why the handling was funny for a few laps before he fell off)

Photo is of Graham being told his chain is hanging lose and the wheel is out of alignment

Thats sooo bad... it GREAT.

If I was Graham I would paint me bike, wash my leathers and put the visor down before showing up again....

If I was Grant I'd enrol Graham as my mechanic.

The best of bucket break downs..

- rear wheel feel out
- spark plug loose
- choke is on

These are the last three reasons graham did not finish 2 x points races... hence I beat him with a 5th in B grade for the sesion.... Grant got 4th prick.

Henk
2nd July 2010, 21:31
Basterds. You turn up for two rounds and get 4th and 5th. I slog out most of the season in the B grade and get 21st.

Arronduke
2nd July 2010, 21:48
I know its great... next year will be looking for 1st.... just got to do enough to keep in front in points... I wonder if anyone will notice my rear view mirror... after all I dont want to slow down too much....

Henk
2nd July 2010, 21:53
Next year you'll be in the A grade and Grant and I can take it in turns to run you wide through the sweeper and onto the grass. I'm hoping your bike is going to be so pretty you are scared to push it, last thing I need is more people out there taking points off me. I think A grade qualifying is going to become a more regular thing, and I always seem to end with last minute attempt to get through in the repecharge.

grantman
2nd July 2010, 21:56
Dont worry Henk
Arron's Blinged FXR will be too pretty for him to push it hard
He will count on the sun reflecting off the shinny bits to blind all the other riders !

Arron already has shown us how NOT to take the sweeper (when wet )
He pased Graham going into the sweeper and the front let go
Graham had to come into the pits and stop because he was laughing so much
Thats how he got mud all over his leathers last meeting

Henk
2nd July 2010, 22:12
I would act all superior and laugh and point ...... but I have been known to go down in the sweeper in the wet myself, as well as just about every other corner on the track.
Only time it has rained and I kept the wheels pointed down was last meet, god I love wets.

grantman
2nd July 2010, 22:23
Its a slippery track in the wet
I ride like a pussy in the rain
Graham and Arron are faster than me when the track is wet

Should be fun next meeting ...hopefully all the injuries & bikes have heald

The hot tip for wet weather riding used to be to coat the tyres with vaseline, stops the rubber getting wet and we all know they work much better when they are dry.
