I am naturally a really impatient guy. I like stuff to happen yesterday! Especially when its to do with my bike.

So advice on time frame. If I crash my bike then what is a reasonable time frame to let the insurnace do their job before packing a big mental that they arent doing enough?

a week? 2? 3? month? 2 months?

I think a lot of it has to do with whether or not you are at fault or not and how clear cut every thing is.
My wife recently was involved in a 5 car nose to tail ( she was no 3 ) and we had the payout in the bank 6 days after the accident.
However, had she been no 5, it may have been different.

Depends how sharp your insurance guys are too - they need an assessor to have a look, and file his report (can it be fixed or is it stuffed - which probably needs pricing)

Over a certain $$ value, the settlement probably needs authorisation from a manager, then passing to finance.

At a guess, if it's a write-off, probably a couple of weeks is reasonable.

Problems / delays are usually due to repair / parts......not the insurance as such.

I was happy with Vero Insurance. 16 days from claim to payment for write-off.

In theory ,if wof and rego ok should be quick, then again now days the insurance gets the bike shop/panel shops to do their work.In the old days the assessor would inspect, get quotes and insurance co make decision, with internet and digi cameras the assesor or bike shop can give an idea of repair costs to insurance co,would imagine a simple cost ratio scenario takes place.Would imagine 2 weeks should be ample time, then again anything they can use to decline claim is used,i.e no wof if crash attibuted to fault, maybe marginal tyre tread, faulty or low discs or pads, bearing in mind a tyre may have 3mm of tread or brakes work ok at wof time, but 5 months later could be different story, and they use that as an out.

totally agree with statement above .. the assesor said to me .. new tyres .. oh new wof .. and rego .. looked at pads .. said wow harly any wear .. i replyed there new but even so real riders dont need breaks as a laughed he agreed and wrote off on spot ! .. payed out rite after ..

so bike condition has a big factor !

Provided things are in order I thought this time frame would be reasonable if not quicker. Once you've jumped through a few hoops like insurance companies seem to like you to do these day it should be pretty much cut and dried I would have thought another two to three days after the last of the hoop jumping would be fair.
Lance this is bullshit mate, if you've gone through all the palava that they've asked you to then it should be settled by now bar the shouting.

I made a claim 3rd January this year.... claim was finally approved last week (18th june)...Some guy backed into my bike in the car park and did a runner. I got the plate and the cops caught up to him a few days later. He admitted fault. I figured it would be all done a dusted within a few weeks tops. Bike is sitting in my shed still not fixed coming up 7 months later....
Took me nagging everyone involved almost everyday for months to make the smallest headway.
Eventually I got sick of it and after being told that my premiums were being raised by $10 a week and my excess was going from $600 to $1400 because "It's costing us more to insure everything and costing a greater amount to repair". I lost it with them shortly after opening this letter. Tried to talk to a boss was told by the guy on the other end of the line that his boss was unavailable and that he would leave a message for him to call me. I said like hell and said I would talk to his boss's boss. This was met with resistance and same unavailable bulls until I said "Ok, I will be lodging a complaint with the ombudsman when I hang up." Funnily enough both of them are suddenly right there and ready to talk...

FFS, WTF???
Which insurance company was that mate?
We should be told so we can avoid the bastards..forever.
BTW can anyone see the benefit of privatizing ACC if THIS is the level of service we can expect from the private sector?

well I have given them the benefit of the doubt on this one. crashed 23/5/10 claim 24/5/10. today is 26/6/10 and they are negociating to settle early next week. Single bike accident.. no other invloved. Bike obviously written off. I am not going to lay fault anywhere but it seems like the insurance company itself, rather than the broker have made this harder than it needs to be. cross fingers for some good figures to come out next week!

Ahh Insurance compamies. I've had good and bad with them. When I was just a young buck, I had a guy pull out in front of my car (about 6 feet in front). Coppers judged him at fault. Then........................... State insurance told me my 5 year old commodore wasn't in warrantable condition at the time of the accident! What?????? New tyres, new brake pads and a 2 month old warrant of fitness, they sited my handbrake didn't work. I told them when I was desperatly trying not to hit the clown, I had ripped up the handbrake and the cable had snapped. State recond that was an obvious defect.

It even went to court but because I was a responsible lad and had a low paying job I could only fight it so far. 15 Grand down the hole including the car. Citizens advice could only help me so far and legal aid weren't interested.

I guess it might depend on whether there is a third party who needs to foot the bill - if not, should be settled fairly quickly.

One of our locals had to wait a couple of months for the cage driver to fork out for his bike, thankfully, he had some spare bits at home and managed to fix it enough to keep riding it, but it took simply ages to get the money for insurance because they need to re-coup it first from other party - was the what happened here anyway

I waited almost a year to the day when I was knocked off my bike in the Uk, the driver of the car even got done for careless or something like that. It was totally her fault, plod report etc. backed that up but they still didn't want to pay out. I got a solicitor on to them in the end, he was a good bastard as he got them to pay his fee's as well.

I even had her fella come round the house once to try to get me to say it was my fault, I told plod that he was trying to intimidate me, can't remember what happened about that though.
