200? pah.. I've topped 6th gear, clocking 285kph and it wouldn't go any faster..
course, the name of the road? The infamous Puke track. Only place it's doin it. The road is too public, and public can't think, so if you're a silly twat, then you'll be twated in turn. My face is too pretty to splat over the front/back/side of a cage/bus/truck/tree/cliff/bike/mobility scooter/'05 636s
Speed is a bi-product the real skill is making it around the corners.

all for fast riding on the track , great fun , but have no time for high speed on the road , not a mater of not being able to do it , just no way 200ks is safe , to many other dickheads on the road and the backroads and your chances of walking away from a crash are slim
check out the " what is it about girls on bikes thread " in the biker angels forum , has some asshole goin in bout doin 200ks in and out of cars on the motorway with his mrs on the back and how she loved it , would he still love her missin a leg!!
and I'm sure all the people he blew past thought he was was real cool , doin lots for the public image of bikers

I seem to have lost the urge to travel at hyper speeds, getting old I guess. I much prefer to cruise between the twisty bits, then let loose.
Different strokes I guess.

is when you hear the unmistakable roar of a harley and are torn between drooling, and thinking the rider is an idiot for doing that speed, in the middle of the lunch hour, in a narrow main road with cars double parked and backing out and at least 2 speed humps every block.
never seen a bike jump that high over a lil ol speed hump. quite scary really.
in sayin that, im quite happy to make an attempt at squeezing the lungs out of my main riding buddy here cos of the speeds he goes and having no sissy bar. last time i went on the back, we white lined it around several corners and nearly ran up the arse of a car. i dont have the guts to go that fast myself, but dont mind nearly goin off the back.

Used to be doing the ''ton'' (160kph) was an achievment, something you could tell your mates about with pride....it still is for me,and the number of times times I've reached that heady figure in 35 yrs could be counted on all my digits with limbs to spare,I'm no speed merchant...no tough talk here.

Car driver looks in mirror, bike 100 metres behind. pulls out to turn right. At same moment biker looks at speedo, notes speed, 200ks. looks up. Bike now 34metres behind car and still doing 200ks. Reaction time, say 15 metres. whoops, shit. sorry, no second attempts. O.K. Who's next.
The guy ahead of you can't see your speedo. At legal speeds he would have been o.k. Now he's got a dead biker, a wrecked car and a guilty concience wondering if he was to blame. KBrs rave about another dumb cager and biker gets a hero's funeral... Nuff said!!!

I THRASH my bike on the road as often as POSSIBLE, but only when no one is looking
200ks is not for idiots, whats wrong with you today... plenty of places (around here) to safely break past 200k ON THE ROAD with only minimal danger to ME, you or others. I say minimal because there is danger doing anything... yes anything on the road or TRACK!
But i agree with the other comments, over taking cars whilst doing excessive speeds is not a good idea... I prefer to slow down... over take casually, then when clear of the vehicle CRANK THAT SUCKA BACK UP TO 250!!!! DAMMMN!!!! :ride: :motu:

I used to think there were some safe places to speed round here to , until I rode all the same roads on a push bike , took my head out of my arse , and noticed all the hazards even in the middle of nowhere
you cannot ride fast ( 250 is fast) and be safe , some may be safer than others maybe but there are plenty of other idiots out there to make up for your superhuman riding ablities
how many guys do youy know who have fallen off at 200 plus on the road and still look pretty or are alive , may still be dangerous on the track but least ya not going to hit a car , bank , road sign , armco etc etc
seems like every night on the news we hear about more new laws to combat the boy racer problem , unless we sort our shit out it will be the biker problem soon

Sort of agree... But sometimes there is a time and a place... I dont go over 160kmh on group rides, but i do ride fast around corners. But those speeds around those corners are at a speed where i am within my limits and the bikes limits allowing for objects that need adjustment mid corner...
Yes i have done high speed (260+) but that was on a deserted road where i knew it well and the amount of traffic on it. I dont wank on about it though...
I dont even wank on about passing Derek Hill around the outside at Manfield...

Hey if all you guys are wanking on about speed i would like to see how you would go going slow now that is macine controll anyone can crank the throttle open not knocking it but time and place like to see how some of you would go on a trials bike doing a figure 8 on the pegs at full lock with clutch fully disengaged and keep doing it lock to lock also helps you become a more skilled road rider on your bike

Can you do true figure 8's on the R65? The K75 I can't they turn into sort of circles with a curvey bit between, like spectacles, because for you to hold it on full lock you have to be going so fast that you just can't get it back upright and cranked over the other way quickly enough. Tis a fearsome thing to see an RT going in full lock circles ! Li'l rat Bike can do true 8's , even though full lock is faster than a trials bike, but that's just cos it's so light and low slung.
240 on the track!!! I thought most people here clocked their best speeds on the track. I'm not a fast rider and I know you don't have to be fast to do 200 either.
I think anybody can do 200 on the straight at Puke given they're not on a moped of course.
I've not been riding too long but I've come to know alot of very sensible riders on this site.
I'm curious as to why the originator of this thread is so up in arms about the KBers?
The issue being argued is forever an ongoing one..... There are groups of riders out there that ride with alot of experience amongst them - I'm not saying they can ride faster than the experieced and fast capabilities of this threads originator, but some of them can hold their own.
These guys are riding 1000's and are moving at their comfortable speeds and within their comfort zones built up over years of riding.
The issue is: what happens when an inexperienced 250cc rider joins a group of experienced 600cc & 1000cc riders who will remain riding within their experienced limits?
Too often, the 250cc rider pushes their limits and beyond.
To be honest, Its an argument I'm sick of hearing about. It's also an argument that has loss of life attributed to it.
Personally, I don't mind riding with 250's. Then again, I don't mind doing a full days ride without wringing the throttle! But thats not for everyone.

And how do you 'murder kittens with your boyfriend' ?, Use him as a club to hit them with?? :weird:
Personally I prefer to murder them with a rifle.
OK, as we all know anything over 100km/h is illegal, whatever ....its the inappropriate speed and the inexperience at speed that gets people into trouble. Being aware whats around you, whats ahead of you, what may be coming the other way etc. Yeah, I do over 200km/h from time to time, err mainly to catch up  but just ride at what youre comfortable with, if you want to cruise and corner at 120 and nail it to 200 on the straights, so what, as opposed to doing 160 everywhere. Just be careful when catching up thats all, if the rider ahead brakes from his 160 and youre doing 200, try and read whats going on ahead and be prepared to hit the picks real hard. Practice braking hard from 200km/h if need be, you'll find out it takes alot longer than you might think. Nothing worse than wiping your mates out by not paying attention :oi-grr:

not against all speeding ,(I still go fast round corners but do limit my top speed)just stupid big speeds and people having the ilusion that they can be safe at 200 , as said in an ealier post on this thread try braking hard from 200 , most will be suprised how long it takes to stop , then factor in reaction time

Yes I have the same problem on my XJR1300 can't swap it from lock to lock fast enough to do true figure eights, But I can on my WR450.
Trials bikes rule, a trials bike will be the next bike into my stable.
Yes I like to ride fast on the road, but I also like to ride in a smooth and following manner, and hardly ever use my breaks on the road, but on the track it a different matter, hard and fast all the way.
I say drop the speed limit, Open road should be open road no limits, And soon we will have zero unemployment and a quarter on the number of idiots on the road.

Yep, I have a thought. There goes another one.
You ride an NSR 250. It has virtually no power at all below, what?, 6000rpm? It has a narrow power band, a close ratio gear box. It's light as, has a racer crouch seating position, clipons bla bla bla. OBVIOUSLY designed for travelling sedately at or below the speed limit (that would be sarcasm).
You make some good points. But I would love to see what happens when you get a bike that can effortlessly do 200k, rather than shreiking like a banshee and buzzing like a turbocharged viabrator. Take a ride on a 600+ and see how long you can resist it.
How far south of Nelson have you ridden? Sure, doing 200k anywhere north of the Kohatu pub would be reckless. But there are plenty of roads in our wee country that have excellent surfaces, are well marked/ signposted and have almost no traffic, cross roads or driveways.
There are even more roads where you can have an absolute ball without breaking the speed limit, but in reality you are putting yourself and others at greater risk than by doing 200k on the affore mentioned deserted roads. Think about it, if you're cranked over doing 95k around a 40k corner and you fall, your bike is going to hit something What if it's an on coming car? Just because you're below the limit doesn't mean that you aren't taking a risk.
Did you know that Darth Vadar was the bad guy. Sorry I thought we were playing state the fkin obvious.

the nsr does primarly track work , also have a k1 gsxr for track days/touring and resist doing 200 effortlessly fine thanks , its not the size bike that determines speed , its the individual controling it

how many guys do youy know who have fallen off at 200 plus on the road and still look pretty or are alive , may still be dangerous on the track but least ya not going to hit a car , bank , road sign , armco etc etc
This idiot obviously has never been to Pukekohe, Wanganui, or Paeroa.
I agree with Bren from Chch, there's plenty of places to go fast on the roads. You just have to choose the time and place.
But have you lived in Nelson? I always had smaller bikes when I lived up there, RZ350, NS400R, VFR400R etc its a cool place to ride on a smaller bike, and most times you dont need to do 200 +. Its only when you move like, say to Chch that you started yearning for more grunt and hp, dammit.......

since when were waganui and paeroa tracks , i thought they were street circuts and therefore more dangerous , still a controlled inviroment compared to the road mind you
Having looked thru a lot of the posts on this site there seem to be a lot of guys...any thoughts??????Firstly nsrpaul, welcome to KB. :spudwave:
There may "seem to be" a lot of guys on here mouthing off about how fast they are, but as a senior member here I would disagree. You get the odd nut posting about his careless speeding triumphs but most people on here frown at that sort of boasting!
Paul, stick around and get the feel of this community, participate and contribute, and hopefully you'll realise that we're not a bunch of *maniac road-racers* but rather a group of serious minded motorcyclists who love the thrill of the ride!

I challenge you to ride/drive in one of the cities in India where they come from.
You'll be seriously surprised at the LACK of accidents they have.

Turbans. Wherever they're from (Probably Sikh actually). I like Indians everywhere except driving. They just seem to be such ratshit taxi drivers. which given that taxi drivers are ratshit at best, means that they are the ratshit of ratshit.
I very much doubt that the ones driving taxis here were taxi drivers in India (or Punjab or wherever). Which is probably the problem.

Yup you're right - a lot of Taxi drivers come into the county through spending a lot of money bribing bastard immigration agents. Go Winston Peter I say:yes: .
So they aren't exactly qualified to drive taxi's, matter of fact I bet half of them had their own drivers (cheap labour) back home.
Another thing you need to realise is that they operate under similar conditions to courier drivers (people instead of parcels) hence the on the job mentality.

They certainly will. Try doing a cavalcade and have a look at the number of horses with red ribbons in their tails. That's there as a warning that if another horse is ridden into them then look out. We've started adding an extra ribbon for every time she connects, so far she managed 4 in one week.

not against all speeding ,(I still go fast round corners but do limit my top speed)just stupid big speeds and people having the ilusion that they can be safe at 200 , as said in an ealier post on this thread try braking hard from 200 , most will be suprised how long it takes to stop , then factor in reaction time
Mate going fast around corners is just as dangerous as riding fast on a straight.
As someone has already pointed out riding at 30kph can be dangerous.
The faster you go the less time you have to avoid and stop, there isnt some magical speed that makes you an unsafe rider. 50kph provides less time than riding at 20kph.
So stop bagging riders you dont know and havent ridden with.

as soon as you hop on a motor cycle you are in a dangerous position , but while a crash at 30ks will hurt could even possibly kill you if you were real unlucky a crash at 230 is nearly always going to be worse
its about limiting the risk to your self and others , a 230kmph projectile of metal and fairings can cut a car in half ,
if you had the choice of crashing into a lampost at 200ks or 30ks , they are both gunna hurt , but which would you choose
there just seems to be a few individuals who think they are so good nothing will happen to them , no matter how much stupid shiy they do

You are so self righteous, you think that because you "limit" yourself to under 200 kph on straights your better than the guy that hits 230 on a straight, pull you head in mate, you travelling at 140 is still enough to maim, kill. If you dont stick to the speed limit yourself then you can really bag others for speeding now can you.
I dont quite figure where your under 200kph is ok deal comes from.

My opiniion -Heck Life itself is a dangerous thing.
This has been well and truely thrashed out so many times its kinda got boring.
Have I ridden over the speed limit -Hey I aint a saint -yep I have and I've enjoyed it. Do I encourage inexperienced riders to exheed their riding ability (on the road) NOPE
Thats what track days are for--HINT HINT
Life isn't a place of apsolutes I've discovered its more a case of varying degrees of risk.
The secret I think is the ability to know the risk and ensure that the risk is minimised.
Wrong place 30km/h is frigging dangerous -another place time 200km/h and faster is relatively safe.
Sorrry for the boring waffle --My point really is speed does NOT kill It really is the sudden -unexpected stop that does. Avoidint that stop is really what rider safety is all about.

[QUOTE=Kickaha]Nothing to prove? sounds more like you mean you're not up to a new challenge, get a bucket so we can kick your arse
The person to beat? you're only riding on the road, that's not even close to real racing
Up for most things Kickaha . Kick my Arse ?? . Hardly fair NSRPaul has seen me ride remember so You'll know how good I am ! . Road not close to Race track Sorry but Don't beleive that , have been on tracks before Excellent fun knowing that theres nothing coming the other way or cats / birds etc could run out or fly into ya . . Will just let the Newbe have his Ten minutes of Fame then well all move on Cheers Warwick :niceone:
the track is super diferent to the road , ask joey dunolp ( bit late now tho ) , he was one of the greatest road racers of all time , on closed roads that are a shitload better than ours and he could not work out how track racers went so fast
in my experrience fast road riders who think the road is the same as the track not only are the ones who feel the need to prove themselves the big man , they steer clear of the track cause when they get there they lose and their ego can't take it
make it 15 min of fame please :niceone:

I'd throw that back atcha and say that fast track riders tend not to be so fast on the road.
Not that I'd know you understand -just some KB racer sorta told me summat --mumbles into his beeer

Having looked thru a lot of the posts on this site there seem to be a lot of guys wanking on bout how fast they are
when are people goin to learn the road is not the place to prove that your willie is not small
all the crap about riding with newbies is a case in point , i am an experrienced racer , rider and am fast , belive it if you want , don't care , but have no prob riding with new riders cause 200ks is for idiots anyway and I want to live past xmas
any thoughts??????
Yeah i agree. It's more luck on the road, only takes one tractor on a blind corner and ya fucked.
But i'm only human and do get bored, so 200 clicks is nothing.

Hey if all you guys are wanking on about speed i would like to see how you would go going slow now that is macine controll anyone can crank the throttle open not knocking it but time and place like to see how some of you would go on a trials bike doing a figure 8 on the pegs at full lock with clutch fully disengaged and keep doing it lock to lock also helps you become a more skilled road rider on your bike
gosh I wish I was as clever as you.

Wow, I stay off the site for one night and look what debate I miss out on.
I've binned my bike at 40k. It farkin hurt (well a few hours later it did), and my wrist still hurts. But I didn't bin it the time I was cruising home from work at 260. Nor the multiple times at 250. And that was at 5.30pm on the urban motorway.
And on those facts, you'll judge me as a dangerous rider?
260k in a straight line is for pussies. What skill does that involve? Basically the only skill I needed was the ones that got me employed in a job that'll allow me to afford a bike that goes that fast. And what danger is there at that speed? Well I reckon in the particular spot I did it - fuck all.
Speed isn't dangerous. It's the circumstances that make it dangerous. Okay, there are certain laws of physics, but if you looked at those laws as they apply to plane crashes you would never fly. I accept the risks.
Good topic to pick for your first postings NSR. Welcome to KB.

that is the case with most of the fast racers i know 2 , they tell me its cause they get their jollys on the track where they belong , and don't feel the need to prove themselves
which is what my point was in the first place , so thanks

Shit 11 pages & people still crying . Better get things warmed up again
NSRPaul not sure why some one would buy a GSXR1000 & not use it like it was made for . To me that is a problem . Took my K3 out for a blast today pulled wheelies past cars / drifted it round corners with cars coming back the other way jumped it of hill creasts . Stoppys , lane spiltting in town & fuck me with my small Clit did 255k down a back road . :whocares: . I cann't ride anyways so no worrys there :motu: . You never know another 11 pages later & we may have gotten to the end of this Don't think so .Been down this road on here & in life . :weird: :ride: :devil2: :niceone:

Took a New GSXR750 out from Phill Turnbills for a try just after I'd riden my K3 1000 , I think if I'd riden the 750 first I would have brought it on the spot . Mint bike went hard pulled 268k out the back of Palmy . Got the thing drifting round this left hander thought I had lost the front but it come back . Still think they are just the Ducks guts . But have owned some massive HP bikes over the Y's & haven't gotten that Bug out of my blood yet .
