In a set of circumstances extremely similar to the way ACC meted out changes to the motorcycle community at the end of 2009, the medical profession is about to cop similar treatment from everybody's favorite non-accountable corporation.

The doctors aren't happy...

ACC Chair Badly Missed The Plot; Displays Gross Ignorance Of Public Hospitals
Press Release by Association of Salaried Medical Specialists at 12:53 pm, 28 Jun 2010
"John Judge, Chair of the ACC, has missed the plot with his statement that public hospitals and doctors should be financially penalised when patients have treatment injuries," said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.

"Mr Judge ignores the fact that when things go wrong overwhelmingly they are due to systems errors rather than personal mistakes. Fiscally penalising financially strapped public hospitals will only make it more difficult to improve systems and would risk compromising standards of patient care."

"He displays gross ignorance with his false assertion that there are no incentives for public hospitals and doctors to prevent treatment injuries.

This is way off beam. Doctors are governed by their own professional and ethical codes as well as the disciplinary and registration authorities set up under legislation. Both public hospitals and doctors can have their performance assessed by the Health & Disability Commissioner when a patient or family member makes a complaint. They are also publicly subjected to periodic scrutiny by the media."

"Mr Judge is entitled to fly kites but he undermines his own credibility and that of the ACC when his kite is riddled with holes of ignorance and inaccuracy," concluded Mr Powell.

ENDS

I have news for you, Mr Powell and it's all bad. ACC isn't listening. If they weren't swayed by 9,000 bikers, it's unlikely that a comparative handful of overpaid medicos will have any more influence.

"Bikers and Medical professionals storm Parliament"

Side column reads: two bikers were lucky that there were medical professionals present when they came off their bikes during the protest .....

Then that will be a massive injustice. They're being stitched up with dodgy stats and predetermined prejudice exactly the same that us bikers were.

My sympathy is all that it should be, coming as it does from an employer who pays tithes based on other people’s behaviour.

Sorry Hitcher, the NZ media and public is too busy falling for an age old schoolyard "hey look over there" ruse while the government steals our lunch.

Maori title to foreshore and seabed. Oil drilling. ACC changes. Expect more to sneak through while we're all getting in a flap about $438 that someone was entitled to claim on their credit card.

The journalists in this country should re-title themselves "ratings content providers", the government should get an award for manipulating an entire population, and maybe the douche bag public that lap it up while ignoring the real issues deserve everything they get.

The bottom line is, they need money fast and are going to get it any way they can. The best way, is to legislate some company into viable existance, force all people to buy its' product, and then sell the company for megabucks.

Caveat emptor - cue telecom born from the same roots, but now seriously up shit creek. Add to that NZ Rail - doesn't know which way to turn, NZ Post (industry in freefall), so if some mega corp thinks it's wise to acquire one of our govts startups they should review the successes (or not) from others gone (going?) before them.

It will be a good thing. The govt will get megabucks from the sale and spend it on you and I, and the new supposedly viable business will be worth jack shit inside fifteen years, and will crash and burn like the rest of them.

The biggest injury suffered as a result of medical intervention is ACC's wallet. Their own tame doctors turn people away in droves, and this is what they want the non-aligned medicos to do as well. Threatening big cash disincentives is a good way to do this.

ACC's doctors (ie. toadies - sellouts and bottom dwelling rectal inserters of scum coated shellfish) key goal is to show an injury is pre-existing (or cast enough doubt).

They don't care if the person then gets treated as long as it's not covered by ACC.

Maha is currently battling to get cover for an injury sustained in February. After x-rays, ultrasounds MRI scans, they finally agreed to pay for an orthopedic consultation. The outcome? He has an injury to his knee. No question of it, something that happens from time to time, not common but most definately can be pinpointed to a specific action. It needs surgery to repair, will not get better anyother way. So we now have to apply to ACC to see if they will pay for it. It is a complete crock as far as I am concerned. Imagine if the injury had been caused by falling off his bike? Wonder if they would have covered that?

Funny but I am on side with ACC on this one, doctors kill more people than the roads do every year and never get a mention! :oi-grr:

Well part of the G20 was an ask that Countries (well their governments) need to halve their deficits... and then the public will wonder why the cost of living has gone up (we're used to it... pathetic)... it's these fuckers in that hive that are screwing the country, raping it for all its worth, selling bits off and not for the benefit of its people... who the fuck threatens doctors? it's not like we'd notice a doctors strike :shit:. I don't care if they're red/blue/green/puce they're not doing it for us, they're doing it to pay for the constant fuckups that they, their predecessors and the world market have caused... I hope they do push the Doctors too far!

Heard of the Hippocratic oath?
Not a big doctor lover myself - but it does not mean I don't respect what they do, and feel we would be fucked without them.
They are held just as accountable as the rest of us in our own scummy jobs.
Atleast they have an oath they swear that says they will do their best job - while the rest of NZ does a level of bare minimum.

A death is cheap for ACC.
And yes, doctors do kill patients with incorrect diagnoses/treatment.
How many people suffer medically-created problems that ACC are liable for, tho? Are we talking about surgeons that fail to fix (or make worse) accident injuries? I know it happens...there's someone local that falls into that category because of an inept surgen. But how common is it, really? After all, the injury was there before the doctor got involved.

I know a lot of doctors, personally and professionally. One or two of them are perhaps a touch under 100% competent. Perfect or otherwise, none of them would see such a cost as influencing their behaviour wrt quality of care. They all, to a man fight to get their patients the resources they need, no matter the cost.

As a side note I don’t know how many doctors ACC “has”, as far as I know it’s sod all.

ACC doctors - a neice of mine's husband has been going through hell with a shoulder injury of some sort. Being an ex farmer, ACC deemed it to be degenerative damage and refused to pay. The operation cost to repair the damage is around $25,000 and as he has to have it done, he has fronted with the cost, whilst still pursuing his claim with ACC. Meantime he's already had to pay 1000's for treatment up to date. Finally, the ACC sent him to one of "their" doctors and agreed to cover the cost of an Op if "their" Dr approved it..........
Not only did "their" Dr approve it, he said it was the worst case of whatever he had seen, and the ACC should have been covering all costs from the beginning!
The ACC is now taking the case to arbitration..........(or whatever it is they do next to dispute it....)!!!

I've got internal ACC files showing an ACC doctor advising completely contrary to 3 specialists (one of whom is hugely respected in the field).

Had this doctor consulted the patient? No. Was he more qualified than the "experts"? No.

Was he being paid by ACC? Yes.

I totally agree. My faher died as a direct result of doctors actions. Well did the bull shit fly.

I wasn't eating donuts at this point so I was actually listening to what was said and heard bullshit bullshit bullshit.

We have a coroners inquest, the family, no lawyer my brother speaking (who unlike me can actually communicate with people). Well he fucking kicked ass. He made the lying sack of shit lawyers look just like that.:Punk:

Doctors with all their overpaid lying sack of shit lawyers on the other side.

One of the doctors lied his fucken face off the whole way through with no accountability.

I believe that most in that profession are good honest people who try to do good, but such as humans are there are also peeps who bring the whole profession down.

End result, my father dead when he shouldn't be.

ACC well that is another LONG post............
