Does anyone have any experience of a trusted stator re-winder in Wellie? Ideas on price etc?

Cheers

hmm stator on RSV.
Not the 1st one I have heard of this year!
A buddy of mine found the best deal via a guy in the States would supplied one landed for under $350 landed from memory. I know he got a replacement price ex Aprilia and it was stupid money.
I could get the details from him if you want.

Cheers MM... The more details the better, thanks... it was probably a Ricks stator as they're selling them on AF1 for about NZ$300 to the door... he may have been a different one though... was just wondering about re-winding costs as i'd rather it was rewound and i tried the latest and greatest R&R (proof of concept kinda)... the AF1 users mob are "blaming" the R&R as the weak link... not sure about the techy detail, but am willing to give it a go...

Rewind it yourself - http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_statorrewind.htm - if you can source the wire

the AF1 users mob are "blaming" the R&R as the weak link...It's normal for a faulty reg/rect to take out the stator.

i'd rather it was rewound and i tried the latest and greatest R&R (proof of concept kinda)... Rewinding isn't that great either, as any little imperfection in the stator insulation will allow the winding to short to the engine frame.

I'd go for a new stator, even if it was double the price of the rewind. Maybe get it rewound if you knew the rewinder was a gold-plater, but most of them just want the job out the door with no comebacks - and that doesn't generally imply gold plating it.

(gold plating = spending absurd amount of time and effort on it - nothing to do with gold.)

Here's a couple people have used before but not in Welly
J.Halsey Rewinds, Auckland
0-9-534 4161

Cairns Electrical Services
11 Leonard Pl Dinsdale Hamilton
07-847 4233

I used J Halsey and it was about 1 week turnaround and $180 for a Yamaha stator

Why not get Cairns electrical to rewind it to spec?
The old bugga can do it blind folded, standing on his head while sipping a cup o tea. (unless he has died or summit).
