Dumb situation and in hindsight, a lot could have been done differently, but a guy (name was Mase, skinny white guy who speaks funny, they turned up in a new hilux) came around tonight to take the bike for a test ride. Said he loved it and would pay me the cash as soon as he got back if everything went sweet. His mate dropped him off and stuck around for a while. Got some car keys off the guy before he took the bike. Mate said he had to go pick something up and would be right back... and you guessed it.

Bike is a black 2007 Yamaha R1, rego is 83YYF.
My contact is Alistair, 021776730. And yes, I know what should have been done as far as deposit, etc is concerned, but hindsight is an awesome thing. This happened in Drury, Auckland.

You're kidding right!? Third one in two weeks? That little maggot has got it coming to him.

Someone in Auckland with a late model bike should get that sting under way.

That's the 3rd bike stolen this way within a couple of weeks. It's almost unheard of to have this many sportsbikes stolen, sounds very organised (ie shipping them off or giving them new identities). Was it advertised on TradeMe like the others were? Good luck with getting it back...

Yes, bike was advertised on Trademe. Came to look at it on the weekend and came back tonight for a 'test ride'.

I suggested it in the other thread. PB mag in the UK ran an article on some 'vigilantes' who took matters into their own hands. They left a bike parked up in the dark, 4 big dudes sat waiting in a van watching the bike. The rest is history, for the theives they caught. I honestly think it's time someone up your way organised another bike for sale, with that GPS tracker. Fuck 'em up large.

Note sure if its been asked in the other threads...

(No I'm not a cop...) but
What color was the Hilux?
Did it have tinted windows or anything else which might make it stand out?
Can you remember the plate or any numbers from it?
The Skinny white maggot, did he have any distinguishing marks? Scares etc.?
Did he have facial hair? Glasses? Mullet? Short haircut?

Might just help to keep an eye out for a skinny white dude driving an X color Hilux. We could just beat up all skinny white guys, but the Hilux might narrow it down a bit :shifty:.

But seriously, sounds like these pricks know how to establish trust. The fact that they are using the same M.O means they can be caught :Police:

Really sorry you've had this happen...bit of it going around up there. Damn nasty. I'd say these guys will be caught shortly as they'll get too cocky. I do like the idea of setting them up....I'd go for the quiet follow them home and then.....ha that would be when the nasty payback could begin. When you've finished you then call the police, anonymously

should set up a special back room in Colemans for such purps - 'So whos in the room today? Ah some skinny Eminem, still another week till we call the cops on him'

At the very least organise a compulsory rugby match between The Kiwibikers 15 and the Thugs 2 on the way to the station.

I’d be tempted to tell Trademe what is going on. At least that way they can contact sellers and tell them to take care when offering test rides.

'Mase' has stolen 3 bikes that we know of so far, and attempted one before he took ours, but didn't get away with it!! The first time they were in a blue Legnum station wagon, when they took our one they were in a BMW 318 or 320, gold champagne colour. The two bikes stolen most recently, Saturday and Wednesday, was in a STOLEN 2009 Toyota Hilux, silver, rego FAL***.

I've told TradeMe whats going on. They said "I am sorry to hear about this situation. I have passed the detail on to our policing team to keep an eye out and we also work closely with the Police in these situations and assist them where we can."

Yeah, they did not contact me through TradeMe - they called. Wife thinks the rego of the Hilux was FAM118. Most distinguishing feature about the guy was the way he spoke - very weird. Could hardly understand him on the phone.

Woa, that is terrible!
3 bikes now?
Aside from Police investigation, and contacting Trademe, could you three get together and contact the bike mags as well? They might do a story?

Might serve as a warning to other riders and sellers - beyond KB, and contact local dealers maybe with photo's of bikes and description of the bloke in the hilux?

Very sorry to hear about your loss mate. Just a tip for anyone selling a bike in the future to anyone they don't know.

When you check his/her licence, make sure it's them and record the licence number.

Take a picture of them, so you can say to the police..."here's the CUNT I'm looking for. You can also then post the CUNTS picture here for all of us to see, so when we see him...we can belt the fuck out of him for you.

If they won't let you take their picture...tell them to fuck off.

Everyone selling a bike (trademe or not) please be prepared to identify these perps. vehicle, distinguishing features etc.
Even have a mate on a bike down the road to follow your bike (or the car) when they take off. Most people have cop mates, im sure they wouldnt mind being with you (off duty or plain clothes) when these guys 'test ride'.

watever we do, we needa to catch these people. photocopy their drivers licence, ive had it done to me and i completely understood.

FFS can't some IT geeza trace the IP address of this moron, he's gotta log in to Trade Me and it should be registered. I fucking hate thieves.

We should start up our kiwibiker gang, like a mafia. Except we take protection money in finding and catching thieves. Once we find them we tie them up and then the victim can have a few "moments" with them. Then we tatoo on his forehead/face "BEAWARE: I am scum, I steal from other people". We'll only need some hard big guys, lota chain and someone with a tatoo machine...

Been watching too much CSI? You can't "TRACE AN IP ADDRESS". Anyone with a trademe account can see seller details (ph#). All they gotta do is pick up a new Vodafone or 2 degrees or telecom sim, slap it into a phone and make the calls. When I was selling my Z750 at the beginning of the year, I was getting 1000+ hits on the auction. You want to trace every IP? Good luck getting the address/contact details of place/person where the IP is assigned to from the ISP without any concrete proof.

By the frequency of these thefts, these guys seem pretty organised. I wouldn't be surprised they're reading this very thread right now and sitting back and having some laughs.

I can't believe the gullibility of some of you folk. I know its good to be trusting and all, but does it feel good to be trusting while some fucker rides away on your pride and joy? Why take the risk? Serious buyers always bring cash.

Lol, but what if I wrote an GUI interface in VB? I'm not an idiot :/

Trying to get an address from a caller is entirely possible if they rung from a landline, worth a shot at least.

Clearly you can't just 'TRACE' an IP. Although email headers would possibly have the IP of the sender which you could easily whois to check if it was from a NZ ISP. From that, I'm sure you could likely get an address with the help of the police. I don't know how liberal the ISP's are about handing out that kind of info, although I'd hope pretty strict.

If they've been successful with 3, there must be others where they have not been successful. Eg. they will only take the ones with poor security measures (did not hold licence, did not take a photo etc). So maybe some of you guys who are currently selling up in Auckland that did take a photo or licence etc can match the description with someone who took a test ride of your bike but didn't buy. ie. skinny white guy & a mate.

Crasherfromwayback

Why doesn't someone up that way advertise their 1000cc sport bike really cheaply. Say it's an urgent sale etc...and hopefully our 'mate' will call. Arrange a time, and have ya mates at your place. If it's him that turns up...smash his and his mates face in.

Not sure what interactions victims have had with the Police in Auckland?

If someone here is willing to compile a list of the bikes, owners and details of the guy(s) that have been offending I'm prepared to do some leg work (outside of my job)but legally)), including with the Trust and Confidence Manager at Tradme...

In Auckland there are a number of Police Areas, and no flag may have been raised (yet) to identify the level, type and nature of offending.

PM me if anyone is keen.

Hey the Hilux was Light Silver, chrome bull bars, 20" or there abouts MAX wheels, no canopy, broken back right passenger window (tapped up with plastic etc). Most unusal light coloured leather interior Hilux badge was missing from the right side also.... this was a NICE truck. I had reported what I thought was the plate numbers to the cops, but they diddnt match.
