I am a musician, have been since I was born and the emotional connection has always been at the core. There are some songs which sort the wheat from the chaf and really strike a chord...and this one always strikes mine....cue sharing moment....

It was 1978 and I had just broken up with my first love (Ok, and the first girl I ... well, you know). I was devastated and swore I'd never fall in love again. A few months later and I was warming up to a new girl but wary of what had happened earlier so I quoted Meatloaf to her "I want you, I need you but there ain't no way I'm ever going to love you". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2G-DKOGFbc Funny thing is that me and that girl have now been married 28 years.

The occasion...Picnic Day on Groote Eylandt about 2002....11.30pm under flood lights and just after a massive fire works display.

The entertainment....Glen Shorricks Little River band with a bunch of young Maori Kids mainly from Sydney calling themselves "Hokio" as a support item.

The mood...well late at night on a flood lit footy field, tropically warm and enough to drink all round.

What happened?...there was a quiet pause all the lights dimmed, one well built Hokio lad stripped of his shirt in the spot light and began to play that really wild Guitar Solo from Once were Warriors Track 21 on the Album...the rest of Hokio's well built lads removed their shirts and strutted ... in a very Haka like fashion....then....

....then they continued with the theme from Once were Warriors...track 22.

Afterwards? A stunned silence in the warm tropical night. Lump in your throat....goose bumps down your back, ...hair on the nape of your neck on end....not a dry kiwi eye in the house...and there were a few burly tough miners amoungst those...Years later when you talk of Picnic Day on Groote....That is the moment "Everyone" remembers....

Saw John Williams at the Auckland Town Hall last year.
This is at the Alhambra Palace. The recovery of the melody to begin the second stanza is the one of the most beautiful solo pieces ever for mine.

This is mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukbbPJirTaE

I chose it as the song to play at my Dad's funeral. He died 2 years ago on the 13th of this month at the age of only 56 from a heart attack. I grew up listening to the beatles and they are my favourite band. We used to listen to them on a weekend on the stereo and sing along. This song ALWAYS makes me cry in a painful positive sort of way if that makes sense. I even feel myself tearing now!!! I am back in the UK at the moment to attend a 'memorial' day they have for him at his local pub, gotta love our english pubs, their the hub of the local community!

Enjoy.

Why does love do this to me. The Exponents Will always be a favourite of mine.

Just watching "Stuck in your head" on C4. Plenty of songs on there brought a lump to my throat, but not of anything nice....... Mickey (Toni thingy), Lucky (Kylie thingy), Barbie girl (whoever)..... Europe were just on before singing Final countdown - bloody hell, what a bunch of girlie looking dudes I'm about to rush off to vomit having thought I'd purged all memories of spewy 80's fashion.

OMG Lipps Inc are now singing Funky Town. These old music videos are so .......something......(words fail me).:shit:
