Yep... kerosene
Kero, WD40 or CRC.
Probably wouldn't use degreaser you might damage the O rings.
Oh oil it up afterwards.

don't get it dirty, then you don't have to clean it.

If you want get it really clean, take it off and clean it with kero. I did mine a while ago in a kero bath in an old frypan, it made a huge difference, unstuck a couple of sticky links and an unbelievable amount of crap came off it.

diesel is better than kero - has a higher lubrication rating. unless you work at an airport, in which case kero is perfect :)

Yep... kerosene
+1. Keroscene is cheap, cleans well, and is also a lubruicant (still need to put on chain lube/wax afterwards).

I use kero and a toothbrush. One tip someone told me recently is to tape 2 toothbrushes together with their heads are facing each other - cleans both sides at the same time

Kerosene destroy an el cheapo toothbrush i used. The kero ate everything. I just used a rag and it ended up being way faster and cleaner.

Just use worn out normal toothbrushes. Never had a problem with them falling apart with kero.
It takes a bit of time but they are the only thing to flick the dirt out. Douse a particularly dirty chain (dirtbike) & leave overnight & reclean. If using a rag at any stage you can risk getting pulled into the sprocket. only spin wheel backward.

Never had a problem with kero and toothbrushes here, but I retire them when they get too manky, which doesn't take too long.
