I just spent the last hour an a bit cooking my pizza from scratch (And watching family guy on my phone), with all the yummy toppings like garlic, bacon, ham, salami, kaitaia fire, mozzarella etc - only to sit down, have a quarter and feel fucking stuffed.
DIDN'T EAT
ALL DAMN DAY

Do you know what I mean? I even turned down butter chicken because I figured the wait would be worth it.

Moved to a new house.... in the year 2010.
and my ISP which are great said telecom cannot provide them with a port on the local exchange.

long story short i cant get broadband. and had to go in a looooooong queue of people waiting, until someone moved outa the area then the 1st person on the queue got broadband.
so after 2 and a half month of swearing at the dial up. i get hooked up. only to find the next week the owner is selling the house and i gotta move again.... and the new place i got....yeah back in the fucking queue.

Thanks telecom.

oh btw, i dont live rural. i am in auckland. that is what is astonishing. i bet even in ethiopia you can get connected faster

Protip (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/124073-I-can-t-bloody-believe-it?p=1129769038#post1129769038): Any company could install the extra equipment to connect you. However they prefer to wait for Telecom to do it, and lease off them.

So what is actually pissing you off is your less-than-great ISP, not Telecom.

No, actually i am very happy with my ISP. its just the fact that telecom owns ALL of the exchanges, some ISP's do install their own cabinets, but it still goes through telecom's exchanges.
trust me. the problem i am facing. No ISP in new zealand can overcome. so its not actually as simple as my ISP being bad. I've searched all my options. and my only option is getting wireless or fibre.

and if my ISP is bad because of it. then every single ISP including telecom themselves is just as bad. and you dont have to be a genius to see that really.

I went Vodafone 3G ... just keep your data usage down and go on something like a 1G plan.

I went Vodafone 3G ... just keep your data usage down and go on something like a 1G plan.

I use alot of data, and im not the only one in the house so that plan's just plain rediculous..... you get a wireless 3G usb card which means only one computer can go online at once.... and i actually had a look at their plans. it was like Not very fast at all...like 1MB speed and 5GB a month was like $80.
thats daylight robbery.

I was gonna go with compass before my net got connected. $75 a month. they install a satelite dish on your roof for $49 one off installation charge. and its 2MB speed and 20GB a month.
and that speed is constant, not affected by weather or anything, best of all it connects to your normal wireless router so anything can connect at once.

screw 3G wireless. I do highly recommend compass as NZ's best wireless option, Covers way more than crappy woosh

Btw sorry blackshear, didnt mean to steal the thread :)

Ha ha, no worries man.
I ate the rest of my pizza today so it's problem gone!
Been looking up new ISPs lately, largely due to the fact that telecom is most likely to be terminating their BigTime plan soon, but there are no other plans out there under $100 that are even remotely near my wants.
NONE.

I'm on telescum bigtime plan, because I was on the original plan that they terminated then got commerce commissioned. Since the comcom decision they have chopped and changed our plans so many times that there is probably no way to prove what terms and conditions we are actually entitled to, nor the promises that were made to us, while they basically screwed the remaining isps over.

I have always brought into their fair use argument and haven't really thrashed the bandwidth. I simply didn't feel the need, since the stuff I want is usually available all the time, and my connection was fairly reliable. Since they have made their announcement I have realised that fair has a telescum specific definition. So right now I'm happily listening to streaming blues radio, and uploading as many of my full res photos to flickr. Youtube gets a bit of a hiding at times too. No doubt they think my bandwidth use makes me a pirate :weird:

I highly recommend giving Xnet a look at. their service is second to none. and their plans are quite good so far. right now i pay $33 a month for the broadband. plus $1.50 per GB.
and from 2am to 8am, its free offpeak. and unlike slingshot or what not its actualy really fast.

if dont care about the offpeak, then you can get the normal without offpeak which is just $1 per GB, they also provide naked DSL and fibre too. there's too many options, check out the site :). being with telecom you must have been tortured alot.

Believe it or not, I've had no problems with Telecom that I can remember.
Apart from the initial setup, line drops were frequent for the first week.
